  • Purpose - to examine the theories related to the internationalization of multinational corporations as well as theories related to internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises. Research design, data, and methodology - traditional theories, e.g. eclectic paradigm and behavioral theory and product life cycle etc. were examined and recent advances theories - network theory, entrepreneurship - were also examined to outline the theory of internationalization of firm. Results - the main schools of international researches are divided into two; one is the economics school, the other is the behavioral school. The economics school has considered internationalization as a pattern of investment in foreign markets explained by rational economic analysis of internalization, ownership, and location advantages. Apart from the economics approach, a theory relevant to smaller firms highlights slow and incremental overseas market commitment. Recent research on the network perspective is fast emerging and it can be applied and well explained on the internationalization of smaller firms, focusing on firm behavior in the context of a network of interorganizational and inter-personal relationships Conclusions - Small medium-sized enterprises have been recently rising, however, there has still been little consolidation of literature in internationalization and most of the relevant theories have been still focusing on explaining the globalization of multinational corporations. Little studied on the internationalization in the context of smaller firms which are distinctly differentiated from larger firms including international new ventures, which the motivation to study strongly calls for more information and studied on small medium-sized enterprises.

  • PURPOSES: This study aims to develop a rational procedure for estimating the pavement roughness index considering vehicle wandering. METHODS : The location analysis of the passing vehicle in the lane was performed by approximately 1.2 million vehicles for verification of the wandering distribution. According to verification result, the distribution follows the normal distribution pattern. The probability density function was estimated using each lane's wandering distribution model. Then the procedure for applying a weighted value into the lane profile was conducted using this function. RESULTS : The modified index, MRIw, with consideration towards applying the wandering weighted value application was computed then compared with MRI. It was found that the Coefficient of Variation for distribution of lateral roughness index in the lane was high in the case of a large difference between each index (i.e., MRIw and MRI) observed. CONCLUSIONS : This result confirms that the new procedure with consideration of the weight factor can successfully improve the lane representative characteristics of the roughness index.

  • The objectives of this study were to introduce spatial interpolation methods which have been applied in recent papers, to apply three methods (nearest monitor, inverse distance weighting, kriging) to domestic data (Ulsan cohort) as an example of estimating the personal exposure levels. We predicted the personal exposure estimates of 2,102 participants in Ulsan cohort using spatial interpolation methods based on information of their residential address. We found that there was a similar tendency among the estimates of each method. The correlation coefficients between predictions from pairs of interpolation methods (except for the correlation coefficient between nearest montitor and kriging of CO and $SO_2$) were generally high (r=0.84 to 0.96). Even if there are some limitations such as location and density of monitoring station, spatial interpolation methods can reflect spatial aspects of air pollutant and spatial heterogeneity in individual level so that they provide more accurate estimates than monitor data alone. But they may still result in misclassification of exposure. To minimize misclassification for better estimates, we need to consider individual characteristics such as daily activity pattern.

  • The principal measure of housing demand is income and the preferences expressed by households through their respective indifference curves. In this context, housing essentially becomes a derived demand, i.e., the household consumes land and a location (or distance-in time and money costs), according to its relative preferences for space, accessibility, and all other nonhousing goods. This paper attempts to deal with both aspects of housing (apartment) demand and household mobility in the Seoul Metropolitan Areas. Housing services will be measured using hedonic regression technique. From observations on the market prices of dwelling units and on the underlying characteristics of housing, one can estimte the relationships between the two empirically. In predicting the probability of the future moves into new towns in the Seoul Metropolitan areas, the best predictors of the future moves into new best predictors are found to be the degree of satisfaction not only with the current residence as a whole, but with some of the major amenities, accessibility and child education. The reasons for moving into new towns are diverse depending on the households' current situation; the most frequently cited is "improvement of housing conditions," followed by "improvement of living environment," "asset improvement" and "home ownership". It appears that people move houses because of a dissatisfaction with their current housing status, relative their income or needs, or a desire to improve their housing and neighborhood amenities, or both. On the other hand, it is clear that the development of new towns in the Seoul Metropolitan Areas should be based on the analysis of housing demand and the pattern of household mobility in Seoul housing market.sehold mobility in Seoul housing market.

  • Within a short period of time of evangelical activities in Korea, the Korean Christianity has been explosively grown since 1884. Now Korea became one of the top countries exporting many missionaries to other countries. We call the 1970s and after as the time of diversity in Korean churches and those buildings. In this period, Korean churches have grown larger and bigger, so called mega-churches. Including Yoido Full Gospel Church, Seoul with 10,000 seats, there are 22 mega-churches in Korea out of the world top 50 mega-churches. Having the necessity of knowing the composition of worship space of mega- or super-mega-churches, we analyzed and classified the information of mega-churches which were built after 1970s. We collected resources through blueprints, visitations of buildings, and interviews by phone, For this study and research, we selected total 66 churches. Based upon the existing theories, we categorized the plane of worship space, its axis, the arrangement of attendant seats, the location of the choir, and the pattern of a cross section of buildings. We also brought the conclusion of specific characteristics given through the analysis according to the time period, the style, and the denomination of megachurches.

  • In this study, nominal moment-axial load interaction diagrams, moment-curvature relationships, and ductility of rectangular hybrid beam-column concrete sections are analyzed using the modified Hognestad concrete model. The hybrid columns are primarily reinforced with steel bars with additional Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) control bars. Parameters investigated include amount, pattern, location, and material properties of concrete, steel, and GFRP. The study was implemented using a user defined comprehensive $MATLAB^{(R)}$ simulation model to find an efficient hybrid section design maximizing strength and ductility. Generating lower bond stresses than steel bars at the concrete interface, auxiliary GFRP bars minimize damage in the concrete core of beam-column sections. Their usage prevents excessive yielding of the core longitudinal bars during frequent moderate cyclic deformations, which leads to significant damage in the foundations of bridges or beam-column spliced sections where repair is difficult and expensive. Analytical results from this study shows that hybrid steel-GFRP composite concrete sections where GFRP is used as auxiliary bars show adequate ductility with a significant increase in strength. Results also compare different design parameters reaching a number of design recommendations for the proposed hybrid section.

  • This study aimed to analyze the impact of water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complexes on groundwater's electric conductivity and water temperature. The greenhouse complexes are mainly situated along rivers to secure water resources for water curtain cultivation. We classified the groundwater monitoring well into the greenhouse (riverside) and field cultivation areas (plain) to compare the groundwater impact of water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complex. The groundwater observation network in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do, located downstream of the Nakdong River, was selected for the study area. As a result of analyzing the electric conductivity and water temperature, the following differences were found in the observed characteristics by region. 1) The electric conductivity and water temperature of the riverside area, where the permeability is high and close to rivers, showed a constant pattern of annual changes due to the influence of river flow and precipitation. 2) The flat land in general agricultural areas showed general characteristics of bedrock observation in the case of water temperature. Still, it seemed more affected by the surrounding well's water use and water quality. The electric conductivity did not show any particular trend and was influenced by the surrounding environment according to the location of each point.

  • This study performed a numerical analysis on the effect of platform shape and damaged mooring lines on the movement of the semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT). The NREL 5 MW-OC4-DeepCwind semi-submersible wind turbine was selected as the reference model. In order to find the effect of the semi-submersible floating platform shape, the dynamic movement and feasibility of three different models were observed with and without the presence of turbine blades. In addition, extreme conditions were considered by having one of the mooring lines detached to determine the effects on the FOWT. As a result, the remaining mooring lines deviated to change the surge and sway motion, which could cause a collision with nearby marine structures, and the variation of yaw angle might lead to critical accidents such as rollover. Since the response of the floating platform after receiving mooring line damage may vary depending on the mooring pattern, the location of the mooring damage, and the direction of the wind and waves, detailed simulations showed substantial variation of damage patterns.

  • More and more, spaces are decreasing which satisfy multiple requirements for wind power plants. However, areas which have excellent wind resources and are free to civil complaints occupy a large space, although they are exposed to the cryogenic environment. This study conducted a thermal-fluid analysis of a cryogenic chamber for testing large wind turbine parts exposed to the cryogenic environment. The position of supply air is placed to the upper area to compare each cooling performance for each location of various outlets in mixing ventilated conditions. The study carried out CFD analysis for the chamber both with and without a test object. For the cases without the test object, the air temperature of the upper supply and down extract type chamber was cooled faster by 5-100% than the others. However, for the cases with the test object, the object temperature of upper supply and center extract on the opposite side type chamber was cooled faster by 33-132% than the others. The cooling performance by the air inside the chamber and the test object did not show the same pattern, which implicates the need to consider the cooling performance by not only the air but also the test object in the large cryogenic chamber design for testing large parts.

  • 2 Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis(2DGE) is an essentialmethodology for analysis on the expression of various proteins. For example, information for the location, mass, expression, size and shape of the proteins obtained by 2DGE can be used for diagnosis, prognosis and biological progress by comparison of patients with the normal persons. Protein spot matching for this purpose is comparative analysis of protein expression pattern for the 2DGE images generated under different conditions. However, visual analysis of protein spots which are more than several hundreds included in a 2DGE image requires long time and heavy effort. Furthermore, geometrical distortion makes the spot matching for the same protein harder. In this paper, an iterative algorithm is introduced for more efficient spot matching. Proposed method is first performing global matching step, which reduces the geometrical difference between the landmarks and the spot to be matched. Thus, movement for a spot is defined by a weighted sum of the movement of the landmark spots. Weight for the summation is defined by the inverse of the distance from the spots to the landmarks. This movement is iteratively performed until the total sum of the difference between the corresponding landmarks is larger than a pre-selected value. Due to local distortion generally occurred in 2DGE images, there are many regions in whichmany spot pairs are miss-matched. In the second stage, the same spot matching algorithm is applied to such local regions with the additional landmarks for those regions. In other words, the same method is applied with the expanded landmark set to which additional landmarks are added. Our proposed algorithm for spot matching empirically proved reliable analysis of protein separation image by producing higher accuracy.
