3-D Behavior of Adjacent Structures in Tunnelling Induced Ground Movements (터널 굴착에 따른 지반 및 인접구조물의 3차원 거동)

  • Urban tunnelling need to consider not only the stability of tunnel itself but also the ground movement regarding adjacent structures. This paper present 3-D behavior of adjacent structures due to tunnelling induced ground movements by means of field measuring data and nonlinear FEM tunnel analysis. The results of the analytical methods from Mohr-Coulomb model are compared with the site measurement data obtained during the twin tunnel construction. It was found that the location and stiffness of the structure influence greatly the shape and pattern of settlement trough. The settlement trough for Greenfield condition was different from the trough for existing adjacent structures. Therefore the load and stiffness of adjacent structures should be taken into account for the stability analysis of the structures.

  • The packing, among the components comprising the gate valve, is used to sustain the air-tightness and the study on change of shape or pattern has been carried out to maximize the functions, but the study on changing the location or the size of the packing in a bid to prevent the freezing has rarely been implemented. Thus, This study is intended to evaluate the thermal strain of packing by heat transfer from territory of extremely low temperature as well as the temperature distribution to the upper part of the packing using numerical analysis method.

  • An unsteady numerical combustion analysis was performed to investigate the combustion characteristics of A Dual Combustion Ramjet(DCR) engine using a gas generator. According to a variance of the equivalence ratio of the gas generator, the flow pattern in the combustor was analyzed. A typical acoustic frequency in the combustor was observed by detail analysis of pressure fluctuation at each location of the combustor.

  • Artificial blasts, defined as seismo-acoustic events, were discriminated from natural earthquakes in the Korean Peninsula by the seismo-acoustic analysis. Total 197 seismo-acoustic events corresponding to 9 percent of seismic events in 2002 were analyzed and classified as artificial surface blasts. Events distribution pattern of the seismo-acoustic events in 2002 was similar to the previous result in 1999-2001, except for two regions. Newly determined seismo-acoustic events were added to the previous artificial blast database. To extend infrasound detection capability, new small-scale infrasound array(TJIAR) was installed in KIGAM. Preliminary analysis for the small array was conducted to discriminate artificial blasts in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula. The small array discriminated S seismo-acoustic events during short period analysis. And two infrasound arrays(TJIAR and CHNAR) were used to determine approximate sound source location by cross bearing method.

A Family system of Family Business: Participation within a Family in a Small Family Business (가족기업의 가족체계: 소규모 가족기업에 있어서 가족구성원의 참여유형)

  • Although the term 'family business' is relatively new, this style of business is universal. An Unusual feature that must be noted, is that even though it is a common style of business is not clearly defined. The purpose of this study is to identify the different family participation patterns, and the variables that effect different types of participation. '1997 Daewoo Panel Data' was used. Some descriptive statistics and a multinomial logit model were employed for the analysis. The standard type of business focused on in this study was a family owned and operated 'ma and pa' typed business and the sample was limited to households where one or both of the partners involved in a family owned and operated business. The main resets obtained from this sample were as follows: 1. Personal characteristics such as respondents' gender, age and educational level were important variables that effected the participation of family members in the business. As can be seen in the gender analysis, family businesses owned by men showed all available patterns of family operated businesses in relatively high numbers. A large percentage of businesses owned women were of self-employed pattern. According to the analysis by age and educational level, young people with a high level of education tend to managed their small businesses by employing others rather than utilising the self-employed or family operated pattern. 2. While big families showed a high percentage of a combination pattern of a family-run, and ordinary employer/employee company, relatively small families usually opted for purely family-run businesses. Whether the family have children under 6 or not, and the number of children under 6 did net significantly effect to the patterns of the family system of small family businesses. 3. The size, location and kind of family business also effected participation patterns of the family members significantly. These results suggest that further study will be required to gain more exact and meaningful information to help Korean family businesses.

  • In South Korea, seasonal, local and temporal climatic characteristics are variable in rainfall patterns. To design or assess the reliability of hydrosystem, information about the rainfall event under consideration is important. In this process, the complete description of a design storm involves the specification of rainfall duration, depth, and its temporal pattern. Generally, to use an appropriate temporal pattern for a design storm is of great importance in the design and evaluation of hydrological safety for hydrosystem. For purpose of selecting of factors affecting the occurrence of rainfall patterns, Huff's dimensionless method was executed and examined by statistical contingency tables analysis through which the inter-dependence of the occurrence frequency of rainfall patterns with respect to geographical location, rainfall duration and depth, and seasonality is investigated. This analysis result can be used to establish flood policies and to design or assess the reliability of hydrosystem.

A Spatial Analysis on the Formation and Dissolution of Start-up Firms in the Seoul Metropolitan Region (수도권 창업기업의 생멸에 대한 공간분포 패턴 분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to verify the spatial distribution difference between formation and dissolution of start-up firms related to life-cycle. For this purpose, a Korean business directories and information on business closures were used, and location information, starting time, and closure time of start-up firms in the Seoul metropolitan region from 2007 to 2009 were generated in this study. It applied The spatial distribution analysis methods on the formation and dissolution of the start-up firms included Barcki measurements and global spatial autocorrelation. The total number of start-up firms was 5,810, and their five-year survival rate was 77.25%. The dissolution pattern of the start-up firms was dispersed more than their formation pattern in each of the Seoul metropolitan regions, the city of Seoul, and the city of Incheon-Gyeonggi province. In addition, differences between the formation and dissolution patterns according to size and industry category of the firms were confirmed.

CT imaging features of fat stranding in cats and dogs with abdominal disorder

  • Background: Fat stranding is a non-specific finding of an increased fat attenuation on computed tomography (CT) images. Fat stranding is used for detecting the underlying lesion in humans. Objectives: To assess the clinical significance of fat stranding on CT images for identifying the underlying cause in dogs and cats. Methods: In this retrospective study, the incidence, location, extent, distribution, and pattern of fat stranding were assessed on CT studies obtained from 134 cases. Results: Fat stranding was found in 38% (51/134) of all cases and in 35% (37/107) of tumors, which was significantly higher in malignant tumors (44%) than benign tumors (12%). Moreover, fat stranding was found in more than two areas in malignant tumors (16/33) and in a single area in benign tumors (4/4). In inflammation, fat stranding was demonstrated in 54% (7/13) in a single area (7/7) as a focal distribution (6/7). In trauma, fat stranding was revealed in 50% (7/14) and most were in multiple areas (6/7). Regardless of the etiologies, fat stranding was always around the underlying lesion and a reticular pattern was the most common presentation. Logistic regression analysis revealed that multiple areas (p = 0.040) of fat stranding and a reticulonodular pattern (p = 0.022) are the significant predictors of malignant tumor. Conclusions: These findings indicated that CT fat stranding can be used as a clue for identifying the underlying lesion and can be useful for narrowing the differential list based on the extent and pattern.

Analysis of Tapered Slot Antenna for UWB with Directivity Characteristic (지향성 특성을 갖는 UWB 용 테이퍼드 슬롯 안테나 분석)

  • In this paper, we propose the antenna to appropriate for a UWB communication system, and it meets characteristics for location recognition in predetermined range. Proposed tapered slot antenna was designed through the HFSS simulation tool of Ansys. Inc., it was produced by Taconic TRF-45 based on dielectric constant of 4.5, loss tangent 0.0035, thickness 1.62mm. The tapered slot antenna is analyzed the standing wave ratio and reflection coefficient, radiation pattern in the frequency domain. The impedance bandwidth range of the produced tapered slot antenna is from 3.8 ~ 8.9GHz to 5.1GHz, E-plane and H-plane radiation pattern meet directional antenna characteristics for indoor and outdoor location recognition in predetermined range. The antenna gain is 7.4 dBi(6GHz)in the simulation, the result of measurement demonstrated 7.4 dBi(6 GHz) of antenna maximum gain. Proposed tapered slot antenna meets UWB communication system but simulated and measured results were slightly different.

Collaborative Relationship and Spatial Features on the Large Firm Based Production Linkages: The Case of the Samsung Electronics and its Subcontracting Firms (대기업 주도 생산 연계의 협력 관계와 공간적 특성 - 삼성전자 반도체사업본부와 그 협력업체를 사례로 -)

  • This paper aims to analysis the production linkage relationships between large firm and its subcontracting firms, especially focus on the spatial network and collaboration network. For the purpose of it, the division of semiconductor in Samsung Electronics and its most important subcontracting firms are picked up for the case study. The empirical study show that the location distribution pattern of Samsung Electronic's subcontracting firms is concentrated very highly on the Kyeong-Ki Province and Chung-Nam Province in Korea, which is the location sites of Samsung Electronic's key plants as well as the best environment for business in Korea. And the major subcontracting firms seems to be in the hierarchic and vertical relationship with Samsung Electronics rather than horizontal and good collaboration network in this case.
