Detecting the Remaining Kids in a School Bus and Designing a Warning System based on an Ultrasonic Sensor (초음파 센서 기반 통학 차량에 남겨진 유아 감지 및 경고 시스템 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a detection and warning system is proposed for the remaining kids in a school bus. For detecting the remaining kids, an ultrasonic sensor is used. The basic experiments of the ultrasonic sensor are performed, and a modified ultrasonic sensor is proposed. Also, the appropriate location of the ultrasonic sensor is proposed by considering various sitting positions. Based on the above kid detection system, a warning algorithm is designed. Using the above detection and warning system, experiments are performed. From the experimental results, it is found that the proposed system, based on the modified ultrasonic sensor, can detect the remaining kids in a school bus. The proposed system can also give an appropriate warning signal.

Development of Insole Sensor System and Gait Phase Detection Algorithm for Lower Extremity Exoskeleton (하지 외골격 로봇을 위한 인솔 센서시스템 및 보행 판단 알고리즘 개발)

  • This paper is about the development of an insole sensor system that can determine the model of an exoskeleton robot for lower limb that is a multi-degree of freedom system. First, the study analyzed the kinematic model of an exoskeleton robot for the lower limb that changes according to the gait phase detection of a human. Based on the ground reaction force (GRF), which is generated when walking, to proceed with insole sensor development, the sensing type, location, and the number of sensors were selected. The center of pressure (COP) of the human foot was understood first, prior to the development of algorithm. Using the COP, an algorithm was developed that is capable of detecting the gait phase with small number of sensors. An experiment at 3 km/h speed was conducted on the developed sensor system to evaluate the developed insole sensor system and the gait phase detection algorithm.

  • The use of satellite remote sensing in maritime safety and security can aid in the detection of illegal fishing activities and provide more efficient use of limited aircraft or patrol craft resources. In the area of vessel traffic monitoring for commercial vessels, Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) which use the ground-based radar system have some difficulties in detecting moving ships due to the limited detection range. A virtual vessel traffic control system is introduced to contribute to prevent a marine accident such as collision and stranding from happening. Existing VTS has its limit. The virtual vessel traffic control system consists of both data acquisition by satellite remote sensing and a simulation of traffic environment stress based on the satellite data, remotely sensed data. And it could be used to provide timely and detailed information about the marine safety, including the location, speed and direction of ships, and help us operate vessels safely and efficiently. If environmental stress values are simulated for the ship information derived from satellite data, proper actions can be taken to prevent accidents. Since optical sensor has a high spatial resolution, JERS satellite data are used to track ships and extract their information. We present an algorithm of automatic identification of ship size and velocity. This paper lastly introduce the field testing results of ship detection by RADARSAT SAR imagery, and propose a new approach for a Vessel Monitoring System(VMS), including VTS, and SAR combination service.

  • Active thermography techniques have the capability of inspecting a broad range simultaneously. By evaluating the phase difference between the defected area and the healthy area, the technique indicates the qualitative location and size of the defect. Previously, the development of the defect detection method used a variety of materials and the test specimen was done. In this study, the proposed technique of lock-in is verified with artificial specimens that have different size and depth of subsurface defects. Finally, the defect detection capability was evaluated using comparisons of the phase image and the amplitude image according to the size and depth of defects.

Real Time Face Detection with TS Algorithm in Mobile Display (모바일 디스플레이에서 TS 알고리즘을 이용한 실시간 얼굴영역 검출)

  • This study presents a new algorithm to detect the facial feature in a color image entered from the mobile device with complex backgrounds and undefined distance between camera's location and the face. Since skin color model with Hough transformation spent approximately 90$\%$ of running time to extract the fitting ellipse for detection of the facial feature, we have changed the approach to the simple geometric vector operation, called a TS(Triangle-Square) transformation. As the experimental results, this gives benefit of reduced run time. We have similar ratio of face detection to other methods with fast speed enough to be used on real-time identification system in mobile environments.

A wavelet finite element-based adaptive-scale damage detection strategy

  • This study employs a novel beam-type wavelet finite element model (WFEM) to fulfill an adaptive-scale damage detection strategy in which structural modeling scales are not only spatially varying but also dynamically changed according to actual needs. Dynamical equations of beam structures are derived in the context of WFEM by using the second-generation cubic Hermite multiwavelets as interpolation functions. Based on the concept of modal strain energy, damage in beam structures can be detected in a progressive manner: the suspected region is first identified using a low-scale structural model and the more accurate location and severity of the damage can be estimated using a multi-scale model with local refinement in the suspected region. Although this strategy can be implemented using traditional finite element methods, the multi-scale and localization properties of the WFEM considerably facilitate the adaptive change of modeling scales in a multi-stage process. The numerical examples in this study clearly demonstrate that the proposed damage detection strategy can progressively and efficiently locate and quantify damage with minimal computation effort and a limited number of sensors.

  • Deformity detection in a Light Emitting Diode (LED) is an important aspect for improving its quality. These LED deformities can be checked through several methods. This paper details the automatic deformity detection inspection system of a LED using the LabVIEW Builder 3.6 software. This software has a graphical user interface which makes it easy to observe and modify the behavior of its element. The LabVIEWs essential elements are also presented and explained aside from its image acquisition system. Details on how to build an inspection system and how to implement vision inspection algorithm which mainly consists of edge detection, geometry point location, and distance measurement are included in this paper.

Edge Detection using Genetic Algorithm (유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 윤곽선 추출)

  • The existing edge detection methods can not represent the real edge of object at fitting point or detect the edge which has unsufficient connecting trait. Especially, the two-fold thick edge detected by these methods cannot coincide real boundary of subject and it's location. To overcome these problems, we introduce the Genetic Algorithm(GA) in edge detection. The energy function is the value of fixel's satisfaction degree to edge condition. And it consists of the fitness value to image formation type, fitness value to connecting trait to it's neighboring edge and evalulation function which can represents the edge at fitting point as one fixel. This method is superior to remove the noise in edge detection than the existing methods. And it also detects the clear and exact edge because it can find the one fixel which is located at fitting point and has strong connecting trait.

Detection Method of Face Rotation Angle for Crosstalk Cancellation (크로스토크 제거를 위한 얼굴 방위각 검출 기법)

  • The method of 3D sound realization using 2 speakers provides two advantages: cheap and easy to build. In the case, crosstalk between 2 speakers has to be eliminated. To calculate and remove the effect of the crosstalk it is essential to find a rotation angle of human head correctly. In the paper, we suggest an algorithm to find the head angle of 2 channel system. We first detect a face area of the given image using Haar-like feature. After that, the eve detection using pre-processor and morphology method. Finally, we calculate the face rotation angle with the face andi the eye location. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the proposed method improves the efficiency much better than the conventional methods.

  • Recently, mobile users continuously increase, and mobile applications also increase As mobile applications increase, the mobile users used to store sensitive and private information such as Bank information, location information, ID, password on their mobile devices. Therefore, recent malicious application targeted to mobile device instead of PC environment is increasing. In particular, since the Android is an open platform and includes security vulnerabilities, attackers prefer this environment. This paper analyzes the performance of malware detection system applying linear SVM machine learning classifier to detect Android malware application. This paper also performs feature selection in order to improve detection performance.
