RFID Based Indoor Positioning System Using Event Filtering

  • Recently, location systems using RFID technology have been studied in indoor environments. However, the existing techniques require high computational cost to compute the location of a moving object because they compare the location proximity of all reference tags and objects. In this paper, we propose an RFID based location positioning scheme using event filtering, which reduces the computation cost of calculating the locations of moving objects while maintaining the accuracy of location estimation. In addition, we propose an incremental location update policy to reduce the location update cost for moving objects. We also compare the proposed scheme with one of the localization schemes, LANDMARC using a performance evaluation. As a result, the proposed scheme outperforms LANDMARC in terms of the computational cost of location estimation. The proposed scheme also reduces the cost of location update by using the RFID-based update policy.

  • In Korea, the initial installation of GIS requires lots of cost, time, and human efforts. If the accuracy of GIS data does not meet the certain standard for use, the system may not work as expected. So, it needs to be investigated for the accuracy of raw data. However, there is little study for the accuracy of raw data in Korea. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to review the data accuracy of raw data - geologic map, 1:5,000 and 1:25,000 scale topographic map, forest stand map, degree of green naturality(DGN) map, and detailed survey data of DGN map-, which are to be used in Environmental Information System(EIS) in Korea. After this study, some errors in data were surveyed and following conclusions were derived. (1) There is no map data, e. g, wildlife habitat map. (2) Some data are misinterpreted depending on the location in the geologic map. (3) Some data are not updated properly after change of topography in the topographic map or the elevation and location is different depending on the scale.. (4) Some data are not edited properly in the forest stand map, e. g. two attributes in one polygon. (5) DGN classification system does not reflect the characteristic of Korean vegetation community. So, it needs to be refined and restructured.

Use of Portable Global Positioning System (GPS) Devices in Exposure Analysis for Time-location Measurement

  • Exposure analysis is a critical component of determining the health impact of pollutants. Global positioning systems (GPS) could be useful in developing time-location information for use in exposure analysis. This study compares four low cost GPS receivers with data logging capability (Garmin 60, Garmin Forerunner 201, GeoStats GeoLogger and Skytrx minitracker MT4100) in terms of accuracy, precision, and ease of use. The accuracy of the devices was determined at two known National Geodetic Survey points. The coordinates logged by the devices were compared when the devices were carried while walking and driving. The Garmin 60 showed better accuracy and precision than the GeoLogger when they were placed at the geodetic points. The Forerunner and Skytrx did not record when they were kept stationary. When the subject wore the devices while walking, the location of the devices differed by about 8 m on average between any two device combinations involving the four devices. The distance between the coordinates logged by the devices decreased when the devices were carried with their antennas facing the sky. All the devices showed similar routes when they were used in a car. All the devices except the Forerunner had satisfactory signal reception when they were worn and when they were carried in the car. The GeoLogger is less comfortable for the subject because of specific wearing requirements. This evaluation found that the Garmin 60 and the Skytrx may be useful in personal exposure analysis studies to record time-location data.

Continuous Location Tracking Algorithm for Moving Position Data

  • Moving objects are spatio-temporal data that change their location or shape continuously over time. Generally, if continuously moving objects are managed by a conventional database management system, the system cannot properly process the past and future location which is not stored in the database. Up to now, for the purpose of location tracking which is not stored, the linear interpolation to estimate the past location has been usually used. It is suitable for the moving objects on linear route, not curved route. In this paper, we propose a past location tracking algorithm for a moving object on curved routes, and also suggest a future location tracking algorithm using some past location information. We found that the proposed location tracking algorithm has higher accuracy than the linear interpolation function.

정상운영기간동안의 KOMPSAT-3A호 주요 영상 품질 인자별 특성 (Characteristics of KOMPSAT-3A Key Image Quality Parameters During Normal Operation Phase)

  • KOMPSAT-3A는 2015년 3월 발사하여 약 6개월의 기간 동안 초기 검보정을 수행한 이후 지난 8년 동안 성공적으로 KOMPSAT-3A 자료를 사용자들에게 배포하였으며, 수집된 영상 자료는 지도제작, GIS, 국토관리 등의 다양한 분야에서 정성적, 정량적 정보 추출의 기초 자료로 활용되고 있다. 한국항공우주연구원에서는 KOMPSAT-3A의 영상제품군에서 추출되는 정보의 정확도 및 신뢰도를 확보하기 위해 주기적으로 영상 품질과 인공위성 하드웨어 특성을 확인하고 있다. 또한 KOMPSAT-3A의 탑재체, 자세제어 센서들의 노후화에 따른 영상 품질 저하 현상을 최소화하기 위해 지속적인 영상 품질 개선 작업을 수행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 KOMPSAT-3A 개발 단계에서 정의된 발사 전후의 검보정 주요 과정 및 대표 영상 품질 인자인 MTF, SNR, Location accuracy 측정 방법을 설명하였다. 이를 바탕으로 발사 후 초기 LEOP Cal/Val이 완료된 이후 측정된 영상 품질 인자별 성능값과 최근 2016년부터 2020년 5월까지 KOMPSAT-3A호의 주요 품질 인자인 MTF, SNR, Location accuracy 현황과 특성을 기술하였다.

  • In the microcell- or picocell-based system the frequent movements of the mobile bring about excessive traffics into the networks. A mobile location estimation mechanism can facilitate both efficient resource allocation and better QoS provisioning through handoff optimization. Existing location estimation schemes consider only LOS model and have poor performance in presence of multi-path and shadowing. In this paper we study a novel scheme which can increase estimation accuracy by considering NLOS environment and other multiple decision parameters than the received signal strength.

클락 오프셋 추정 방식을 이용한 TWR WPAN 측위 시스템 (A Two-Way Ranging WPAN Location System with Clock Offset Estimation)

  • Compared to OWR (One-Way Ranging) method that requires precise network time synchronization, TWR (Two-Way Ranging) method has advantages in building an indoor WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) location system with lower cost. However, clock offsets of nodes in WPAN system should be eliminated or compensated to improve location accuracy of the TWR method. Because conventional clock offset elimination methods requires multiple TWR transactions to reduce clock offset, they produce network traffic burden instead. This paper presents a clock offset estimation method that can reduce clock offset error with a single TWR transaction. After relative clock offsets of sensor nodes are estimated, clock offsets of mobile tags are estimated using a single TWR communication. Simulation results show that location accuracy of the proposed method is almost similar to the conventional clock offset elimination method, while its network traffic is about a half of the conventional method.

A New Optimized Localized Technique of CG Return Stroke Lightning Channel in Forest

  • Localization of lightning strike point (LSP) in the forest is modeled to mitigate the forest fire damage. Though forest fire ignited by lightning rarely happens, its damage on the forest is grievousness. Therefore, predicting accurate location of LSP becomes crucial in order to control the forest fire. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid localization algorithm by combining the received signal strength (RSS) and the received signal strength ratio (RSSR) to improve the accuracy by mitigating the environmental effect of lightning strike location in the forest. The proposed hybrid algorithm employs antenna theory (AT) model of cloud-to-ground (CG) return stroke lightning channel to forecast the location of the lightning strike. The obtained results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm achieves better location accuracy compared to the existing RSS method for predicting the lightning strike location considering additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment.

  • QR 코드는 스티커 형태로 인쇄되어 설치비용이 저가로 위치 인식하기 위한 천장이나 벽면에 인공지표를 붙이는 위치 인식 방식과 비전으로 위치 인식을 하는 방식에 비교하여 위치 인식 정확도 면이나 설치비용 면에서 많은 장점을 보유하고 있어 모든 산업에 전반적으로 적용 가능한 로봇을 만든다. 본 연구에서는 정사각형 2차원 바코드를 통해 오차범위는 3 mm 이내 로봇에 적용하는 기술로 정확도가 뛰어나 정확한 위치제어가 가능한 로봇을 만들 수 있음을 보여주며, 특히 여러 공학 기술이 합쳐진 융합연구는 QR 코드 인식 실내이동 로봇제어 연구의 시스템 구성을 중심으로 기술한 것이다.

Fault- Tolerant Tasking and Guidance of an Airborne Location Sensor Network

  • This paper is concerned with tasking and guidance of networked airborne sensors to achieve fault-tolerant sensing. The sensors are coordinated to locate hostile transmitters by intercepting and processing their signals. Faults occur when some sensor-carrying vehicles engaged in target location missions are lost. Faults effectively change the network architecture and therefore degrade the network performance. The first objective of the paper is to optimally allocate a finite number of sensors to targets to maximize the network life and availability. To that end allocation policies are solved from relevant Markov decision problems. The sensors allocated to a target must continue to adjust their trajectories until the estimate of the target location reaches a prescribed accuracy. The second objective of the paper is to establish a criterion for vehicle guidance for which fault-tolerant sensing is achieved by incorporating the knowledge of vehicle loss probability, and by allowing network reconfiguration in the event of loss of vehicles. Superior sensing performance in terms of location accuracy is demonstrated under the established criterion.
