  • In this paper, we have considered the multicriteria quadratic plant location problem. In addition to the allocation costs, the maintenance costs of the plants are also considered. The objective functions considered in this paper are quadratic in nature. The given problem is reduced to the problem with linear objective function. The method of Fernandez and Puerto (2003) is applied to solve the reduced problem. It is illustrated with help of examples. The effect of the change in the allocation and maintenance costs on allocation of plants to the clients has also been discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the criteria for decision-making of industrial location in view of substituting production factors through maximizing profit instead of minimizing transportation cost. This paper makes use of mutual relationship between spatial economy in Euclidean distance and substituting production factors in production theory. Therefore, this paper will develop weak points in classical theory of industrial location by introducing production theory which has conception of substituting production factors.

  • Location Information is an information about a place where an individual exists or had existed. As smart phones are popularized, location information becomes more than simple information about the place. As a result, services using an individual's location information became the trend. However, problems arising from discharging Private Information can damage an individual, because it causes financial and economic loss but also detects individual's location and route directly. In realities, the guide that regulates Location Based Service for administering Private Location Information is insufficient. Therefore, this paper proposes check items, which contain standards of judicial action, financial loss ratings, importance of Private Location Information, and criticality of check lists, during the Private Location Information audit at the level of analysis, design, and management of the Information System, in order to prevent the infringement and disclosure of the Private Location Information. Moreover, the proposed check items were verified for its suitability by the professionals' survey.

  • The Location Based Services comprised GIS and Telecommunication allow users to receive various services based on their geographic location. It is need to legislation to encourage the provision and use of location information by providing privacy protection to users. But the contents of the legislation proposed by Korean government have problems conflicted between protection of a person's location information and invigoration of location-based services. The purpose of this study is to search complementary measures for privacy protection of location information from From a viewpoint of effective management strategy for geographic information.

  • A daily report is one of the critical documents in construction projects, since it helps them keep track of various as-built information. Despite the important role in progress management, the daily reporting process is time-consuming, and the representation of task information on daily reports are not effective enough to accumulate daily as-built information for further use in project management. Task information is composed of a specific work type and a location where the task is performed, which means that the same type of work is repeated over the locations. However, in many cases the task locations are described differently depending on a reporter's preference or experience. Without representing task location information effectively, it is difficult to accumulate and to reuse as-built information. The objective of this research is to build a framework for generating task information which can be efficiently accumulated and reused for progress management. To do so, this research built a task information model with focusing on the representation of task location associated with a work type, and developed an information system that supports automated and interactive generation of task information.

  • MU's mobility patterns can be found from a movement history data. The prediction accuracy and model complexity depend on the degree of application of history data. The more data we use, the more accurate the prediction is. As a result, the location management cost is reduced, but complexity of the model increases. In this paper, we classify MU's mobility patterns into four types. For each type, we find the respective optimal number of application of history data, and predictive location area by using the simulation. The optimal numbers of four types are shown to be different. When we use more than three application of history data, the simulation time and data storage are shown to increase very steeply.

  • The Location Based Service is growing rapidly nowadays due to the universalization of the use for smartphone, and therefore the location determination technology has been placed in a very important position. This study suggests an algorithm that can provide the estimate of users' location by using smartphone sensors. And in doing so we will propose a methodology for the creation and update of indoor map through the more accurate position estimation using smartphone sensors such as acceleration sensor, gyroscope sensor, geomagnetic sensor and rotation sensor.

  • It is a crucial managerial issue how to manage assembly blocks at shipyard. Based on the project experience in Hyundai Heavy Industries, this study points out the difficulties on the block stockyard operations, formalizes the JIBUN (location) assignment problem for assembly blocks, and develops the JIBUN (location) assignment algorithm whose purpose is to reduce the number of unproductive block moves. Through simulation experiments for various situations, this study demonstrates the usefulness of JIBUN (location) assignment algorithm. In addition, this study examines the impacts of block move sequence rules and of block stockyard layouts on the block stockyard operations.

  • In a microcellular personal communication service (PCS) it is required to minimize the paging and location updating signals. We propose a multi-layered location registration scheme to reduce the paging and updating signals. In this scheme the subscribers are grouped by their characteristics (velocity and call arrival rate) and are served by appropriately sized location registration area. In order to group the subscriber, we define subscriber grouping problem (SGP). Proposition are examined to solve the grouping problem. The performance of the proposed subscriber grouping algorithm is tested with examples. Simulation results indicate that the subscriber grouping procedure is effective for designing the multi-layered location registration scheme.

  • In this paper, the uAPSS(u-APartment Service System) that is based on location-aware technology is designed and implemented for a luxury apartment. On the real luxury apartment the developed system has been employed and tested to provide convenient and secure living for residents. It provides services such as emergency call, intelligent elevator operation, and hands-free door access based on the location of the residents with personal device as called smart tag. It can also be applied to other service areas such as the location-aware u-Service for hospitals, high-rising complex buildings, silver towns, etc.
