  • In a port terminal, containers are stored and transshipped by yard tractors and crane vehicles. For operation efficiency of the terminal, location information of these vehicles is an essential factor. However, most of port terminals try to estimate location of these assets using indirect methods such as event tracking of shipping or unshipping containers. Because these kinds of events are rarely occurred, location of the event includes seriously locating error compared to a real location of vehicle. In this paper, we propose a real-time asset tracking system to obtain accurate and reliable location of terminal assets. The proposed system overcomes a location estimation error caused by container stacks which interrupt wireless communication. In order to mitigate uncertainty and increase accuracy of location estimation, we designed hardwares and multi-step locating system to resolve additional preblems. We implemented system components, and installed these at a port environment for evaluation. The result shows superiority of the system that the accuracy is approximately 5.87 meters (CEP).

  • Objectives : Accurate location of acupoints is a prerequisite for both practice and research into acupoint specificity. Given that accurate location of acupoints is one of the most important issues in meridianology education, this study aimed at evaluating if the elastic ruler method for locating acupoints is suitable for meridianology practice class. Methods : Fifty-six students who took meridianology practice class participated in the experiment. Firstly, they were asked to locate PC6, CV12 and ST36 without any assisting tools and the distance between standard acupoint and their acupoint location was measured. Secondly, they were again asked to locate the same points this time with an elastic ruler. Then the first and second measurements were compared using a paired t-test. Results : Analysis of the results found using an elastic ruler significantly improved the difference between the student's acupoint location and the standard acupoint: there was a significant difference between 1st and 2nd measurements for PC6 (1.87${\pm}$0.29mm vs. 1.28${\pm}$0.19mm, P=0.037) and for ST36 (2.70${\pm}$0.22mm vs. 1.38${\pm}$0.15mm, P<0.0001). Conclusions : Using an elastic ruler as an assisting tool for locating acupoints in meridianology practice class should be considered for improving accuracy in acupoint location.

  • A locating text technique capable of locating and extracting text blocks in various Web images is presented here. Until now this area of work has been ignored by researchers even if this sort of text may be meaningful for internet users. The algorithms associated with the technique work without prior knowledge of the text orientation, size or font. In the work presented in this research, our text extraction algorithm utilizes useful edge detection followed by histogram analysis on the genuine characteristics of letters defined by text clustering region, to properly perform extraction of the text region that does not depend on font styles and sizes. By a number of experiments we have showed impressively acceptable results.

  • In this paper, we propose a new nonlinear matching measure for automatic analysis of the on-off type DNA microarray images in which the hybridized spots are detected by the template matching method. The proposed measure is obtained by binary-thresholding over the whole template region and taking the number of white pixels inside the spotted area. This measure is compared with the normalized covariance in terms of the classification ability of the successfulness of the locating markers. The proposed measure is evaluated for the scanned images of HPV DNA microarrays where the marker locating is a critical issue because of the small number of spots. The targeting spots of HPV DNA chips are designed for genotyping 22 types of the human papilloma virus(HPV). The proposed measure is proven to give more discriminative response reducing the miss cases of the successful marker locating.

  • This paper argues that the basic modes of spatial cognition can be best identified in terms of argument/participant location, and shows that natural language uses‘simple’types of semantic denotations to encode spatial cognition, and further notes that spatial expressions should be interpreted not as locating an event/state as a whole but as locating arguments/participants of the event. The ways of locating events/states are identified in terms of argument orientation(AO), Which indicates semantic patterns of linkiarticipant location. and shows that natural langrage uses ng locatives to specific arguments. Four patterns of argument orientation described here reveal substantial modes of spatial cognition. and the AO patterns are mostly determined by the semantic classes of English verbs combining with locative expressions, i.e., by the event type of the predicate. As for the denotational constraint of locatives, the paper concludes that semantic denotations of locative PPs are restricted to the intersecting functions mapping relations to relations.

  • We proposed a method for locating of mouth using deformable templates, described by a parameterized template. An energy function is defined which links, edges, peaks, valleys in image intensity to corresponding properties of the template. The template deforms itself by altering its parameter values to minimize the energy function. The minimized energy function's parameter values can be used as descriptors for the feature. We propose a method for locating mouth fast, accurately by limiting a range of parameters' value and getting initial value of parameters' by preprocessing.

  • Determining the position and velocity of mobiles is an important issue for efficient handoff and channel allocation in microcell structure. Our early work proposes a technique for estimating the mobile location in the microcellular architecture. This process is based on the three step position estimation which determines the mobile position by gradually reducing the area of the mobile position. Using three step method, the estimator first estimates the locating sector in the sector estimation step, then estimates the locating zone in the zone estimation step, and then finally estimates the locating block in the block estimate step. But this scheme is prone to errors when the mobile is located in the boundary of sectors or tracks. In this paper we propose the enhanced scheme to reduce the estimation error.

  • A growing need has developed in the United States to obtain more specific knowledge on the structural integrity of infrastructure due to aging service lives, heavier and more frequent loading conditions, and durability issues. This need has spurred extensive research in the area of structural health monitoring over the past few decades. Several structural health monitoring techniques have been developed that are capable of locating damage in structures using modal strain energy of mode shapes. Typically in the past, bending strain energy has been used in these methods since it is a dominant vibrational mode in many structures and is easily measured. Additionally, there may be cases, such as pipes, shafts, or certain bridges, where structures exhibit significant torsional behavior as well. In this research, torsional strain energy is used to locate damage. The damage index method is used on two numerical models; a cantilevered steel pipe and a simply-supported steel plate girder bridge. Torsion damage indices are compared to bending damage indices to assess their effectiveness at locating damage. The torsion strain energy method is capable of accurately locating damage and providing additional valuable information to both of the structures' behaviors.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to establish an accurate and effective method of locating acupoints of the forearm by studying bone proportional measurement. Methods : A total of 60 volunteers, 30 men and 30 women, participated in this study. 7 parts of the body were measured by a soft ruler or digital vernier calipers. The cun of the upper limb was calculated and analyzed. And the results were compared with the standard cun. Results : The bone proportional cun of the forearm based on height and femur was close to 11. It was different from the standard 12.5, 12 or 10. The cun of the forearm by thumb or finger width measurement was different from the standard too. Conclusions : We suggest that locating acupoints of the forearm needs to be done based on 11 cun. The confusion on locating acupoints of the forearm will be reduced by reflecting the result of the actual measurement.

  • The ROK Army must detect the enemy's location and the type of artillery weapon to respond effectively at wartime. This paper proposes a radar positioning model by applying a scenario-based robust optimization method i.e., binary integer programming. The model consists of the different types of radar, its available quantity and specification. Input data is a combination of target, weapon types and enemy position in enemy's attack scenarios. In this scenario, as the components increase by one unit, the total number increases exponentially, making it difficult to use all scenarios. Therefore, we use partial scenarios to see if they produce results similar to those of the total scenario, and then apply them to case studies. The goal of this model is to deploy an artillery locating radar that maximizes the detection probability at a given candidate site, based on the probability of all possible attack scenarios at an expected enemy artillery position. The results of various experiments including real case study show the appropriateness and practicality of our proposed model. In addition, the validity of the model is reviewed by comparing the case study results with the detection rate of the currently available radar deployment positions of Corps. We are looking forward to enhance Korea Artillery force combat capability through our research.
