  • Accurate locating for the mobile target remains a challenge in various applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Unfortunately, most of the typical localization algorithms perform well only in the WSN with densely distributed sensor nodes. The non-localizable problem is prone to happening when a target moves into the WSN with sparsely distributed sensor nodes. To solve this problem, we propose a collaborative and predictive localization algorithm (CPLA). The Gaussian mixture model (GMM) is introduced to predict the posterior trajectory for a mobile target by training its prior trajectory. In addition, the collaborative and predictive schemes are designed to solve the non-localizable problems in the two-anchor nodes locating, one-anchor node locating and non-anchor node locating situations. Simulation results prove that the CPLA exhibits higher localization accuracy than other tested predictive localization algorithms either in the WSN with sparsely distributed sensor nodes or in the WSN with densely distributed sensor nodes.

  • In this paper, we consider several domination parameters like perfect domination number, locating-domination number, open-locatingdomination number, etc. in the Mycielski graph M(G) of a graph G. We found upper bounds for locating-domination number of M(G) and computational formulae for perfect locating-domination number and open locating-domination number of M(G). We also showed that the perfect domination number of M(G) is at least that of G plus 1 and that for each positive integer n, there exists a graph Gn such that the perfect domination number of M(Gn) is equal to that of Gn plus n.

  • Objective : The skill of locating acupoints accurately is an essential part of acupuncture treatment. Bone-scale has been used as a basic coordinates to locate acupoints and has been considered as an important factor of locating acupoints. This study was designed to stress the impotance of QieXunMenAn, which means pressing and rubbing softly the surface around the part pointed with proportional method, in locating acupoints. Methods and results : All expressions related with QieXunMenAn, among the descriptions of acupoint locations in ${\ulcorner}Zhenjiudacheng{\lrcorner}$, were investigated. The activity of QieXunMenAn has been regarded as an important method of locating acupoints since Neijing. QieXunMenAn means pressing and rubbing softly the surface around the part pointed with proportional method. It is a process of locating acupoint in detail by finger-sensation after locating the point with proportional method. Xianzhang, Dongmaiyingshou, and Wanwanzhong have been used to describe how to locate acupuncture-point through QieXunMenAn procedure. Xianzhong means a small depression or a pit on the surface of the body. Wanwanzhong describes that it feels very soft and tender. Descriptions related with QieXunMenAn procedures were found in around 87% of acupoint locations, thus stressing out its procedure. Conclusions : Bone-scale and QieXunMenAn do not mean different methods but the procedures that should be both performed every time when we locate most of the acupoints. Until recently, QieXunMenAn has been paid less attention that it should be. OieXunMenAn as well as bone-scale may be necessary to help locate acupoints accurately.

  • Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) are used to track and identify the location of objects in real time using simple, inexpensive tags attached to or embedded in objects and readers that receive the wireless signals from these tags to determine their locations. A tag is powered an internal source such as a battery. The blink frequency of a tag affects the energy efficiency and the locating accuracy of RTLS. The mobility of a tag also affects the locating accuracy. In this paper, we introduce a RTLS tag design which improves the locating accuracy and the power efficiency. We propose an adaptive transmission-rate control algorithm using a motion sensor. By analyzing the signal pattern of the motion sensor, we can build a model to estimate the speed of the motion. Using this model, our algorithm can achieve better locating accuracy and lower power consumption than those of the conventional method. In our experiments, the number of transmission reduced as 40%, keeping similar locating accuracy.

  • It is widely known that the leak locating of underground plastic pipelines is much more difficult than that of cast iron pipelines. The precision of the leak locating depends upon the speed of leak signal and the time delay estimation between the two sensors on the pipeline. In this paper, six different windowing filters are considered to improve the time delay estimation especially for the plastic pipelines. The time delay is usually estimated from the peak time of cross-correlation functions. The filtering windows including rectangle, Roth, Wiener, SCOT, PHAT and maximum likelihood are applied to derive the generalized cross-correlation function and compared each other. Experimental results for the actual plastic underground water supply pipeline show that the introduction of the filtering windows improved the precision of time delay estimation. Some window functions provide excellent leak locating capability for the plastic pipe of 98 m long, which is less than 1 % of the pipe lengths. Also a new probabilistic approach that the combinations of all results from each filtering window is suggested for the better leak locating.

  • This paper is on the enhancement of our heuristics for GOSST problem that could apply to the design of communication networks offering graduated services. This problem hewn as one of NP-Hard problems finds a network topology meeting the G-Condition with minimum construction cost. In our prior research, we proposed two heuristics. We suggest methods of selecting G-Node and disconnections for Global or Local locating heuristic in this research. The ameliorated Local locating heuristic retrenches 17% more network construction cost saving ratio and the reformed Global locating heuristic does 14% more than our primitives.

  • In this paper an ESPRIT-based super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm is developed for real-time locating system (RTLS) and its performance is analyzed in various multipath environments. The performance of the existing correlation method for time delay estimation seriously degrades in multipath environments where the relative time delays of multipath signals are less than a PN chip. To solve the problem we shall develop a frequency domain super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm using the ESPRIT, the most representative super-resolution direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm, and analyze its performance in various multipath environments.

  • This study presents the application of two indices for the locating of cracks in Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures, as well as the development of their modified forms to overcome limitations. The first index is based on mode shape curvature and the second index is based on the fourth derivative of the mode shape. In order to confirm the indices' effectiveness, both eigenvalues coupled with nonlinear static analyses were carried out and the eigenvectors for two different damage locations and intensities of load were obtained from the finite element model of RC beams. The values of the damage-locating indices derived using both indices were then compared. Generally, the mode shape curvature-based index suffered from insensitivity when attempting to detect the damage location; this also applied to the mode shape fourth derivative-based index at lower modes. However, at higher modes, the mode shape fourth derivative-based index gave an acceptable indication of the damage location. Both the indices showed inconsistencies and anomalies at the supports. This study proposed modification to both indices to overcome identified flaws. The results proved that modified forms exhibited better sensitivity for identifying the damage location. In addition, anomalies at the supports were eliminated.

  • This study provides a heuristic algorithm to solve the locating problem of repair service centers (RSCs). To enhance the customer service level with more satisfaction and quicker responsiveness, the locating problem of RSCs has become one of the important issues in reverse supply chain management. This problem is formulated as a zero-one mixed integer programming in which an exiting distributor will be considered to be an un-capacitated repair service center for the objective of cost-minimizing. Since logistical costs are highly interrelated with the multinational location of distributors and RSCs, the fixed cost for setting a repair service center, variable cost, transportation cost, and exchange rates are considered in this study. Recognizing the selection of un-capacitated RSCs' locations is a combinatorial optimization problem and is a zero-one mixed integer programming with NP-hard complexity, we provide a heuristic algorithm named as incremental cost matrix procedure (ICMP) to simplify the solving procedure. By using the concise and structural cost matrix, ICMP can efficiently screen the potential location with cost advantage and effectively decide which distributor should be a RSC. Results obtained from the numerical experiments conducted in small scale problem have shown the fact that ICMP is an effective and efficient heuristic algorithm for solving the RSCs locating problem. In the future, using the extended ICMP to solve problems with larger industrial scale or problems with congestion effects caused by the variation of customer demand and the restriction of the RSC capacity is worth a further investigation.

  • Preventive diagnosis technique of power transforms is very important for highly reliable operation of power systems, and especially that of online transformer is needed in view of economy. Acoustic methods for partial discharge points have been studied abroad since 1960's in earnest. Electric-ultrasonic locating method by which partial discharges are found through detecting the electric and ultrasonic signal generated in partial discharge and ultrasonic-ultrasonic locating method by which partial discharges are found through detecting two ultrasonic signal with two ultrasonic sensor have been researched in our country. By using this ultrasonic-ultrasonic locating method, it was proposed of graphical determination technique of partial discharge points one dimension, two dimension, three dimension. But in locating partial discharges, they have assumed that the number of signal origin is one. So in this study we suggests a method of locating and knowing the number of signal origins when there are several origins by using ultrasonic-ultrasonic method.
