  • Tunnel lining is the final support of a tunnel and reflects the results of the interaction between ground and support system. Recently it is very difficult to support and manage the tunnel because the cracks on tunnel lining cause problems in supporting and managing tunnels. Therefore the analysis of the cracks is quite strongly required. The major role played by the steel fiber occurs in the post-cracking zone, in which the fibers bridge across the cracked matrix. Because of its improved ability to bridging cracks, steel fiber reinforcement concrete(SFRC) has better crack properties than that of reinforced concrete. In this study, mechanical behaviour of a tunnel lining was examined by model tests. The model tests were carried out under various conditions taking different loading shapes, thicknesses and leakage of lining, and volume content of steel fiber. From these model test, the cracking load, the failure load, defection and cracking position and type were examined and the characteristics of deformation and failure for tunnel lining were estimated and researched.

  • Nowadays, increase of demands on efficient utilization of resources while construction process stimulates structural engineers to select remodeling to improve old buildings. To analyze the effects of openings that may be installed in the course of remodeling old buildings, an experimental research was carried out using four approximately half scale of specimens subjected to constant axial forces, and cyclic loading to simulate seismic conditions. Consequently, the existence of opening was verified to induce different observed damages, which caused by reduction of compression strut support formed on the surface of wall. Especially, the maximum force was revealed to decrease approximately 35% as openings were existed. As this tendency was appeared with stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.

  • A series of three shear wall specimens was tested under constant axial stress and reversed cyclic lateral loading in order to evaluate the seismic retrofit that had been proposed for the shear wall with the opening induced by remodeling. One of these specimens was tested in the as-built condition and the other two were retrofitted prior to testing. The retrofit involved the use of carbon fiber sheets and steel plates (thickness of 3mm) over the entire face of the wall. The test results show that the ultimate failure modes of the specimens were found to be shear fracture of the wall around the opening and two difference types of retrofitting strategy make the different effects of a rise in the strength of each specimen.

  • This paper investigates the seismic behavior of prefabricated piers which are made by onsite connection of precast composite column segments to accelerate bridge construction. Quasi-static cyclic loading tests on the piers show better overall seismic capacity compared to RC piers with seismic details..

  • This paper studies the lateral response of reinforced concrete columns strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer sheet (CFRP) subjected to static loading analytically by comparing with experimental results. For interface behavior between RC columns and CFRP, and interface element in FEM was applied and verified its performance by analyzing lateral behavior of RC columns strengthened with CFRP. The comparison shows that the proposed analytical method is effective for nonlinear analysis of RC columns strengthened CFRP.

  • This is an experimental study on the out of plane load behavior of SC (Steel Plate Concrete) wall module under bending and shear loading. 4 tests were conducted to verify structural performance according to rib reinforcement ratio, stud reinforcement ratio and shear reinforcement ratio. On the basis of test results, it is found that rib reinforcement ratio is a main factor of flexural strength of SC structures.

  • Localized failure analysis of concrete structures can be carried out effectively by modeling fracture process zone of concrete during crack initiation and propagation. But, the analysis techniques are still insufficient for crack modeling because of difficulties in numerical analysis procedure which describe progressive crack. In this paper, a finite element with embedded displacement discontinuity is introduced to remove the difficulties of remeshing for crack propagation in discrete crack model during progressive failure analysis of concrete structures. The performance of this so-called embedded crack approach for concrete failure analysis is verified by several analysis examples. The analysis results show that the embedded crack approach retains mesh size objectivity and can simulate localized failure under mixed mode loading. It can be concluded that the embedded crack approach cab be an effective alternate to the smeared and discrete crack approaches.

  • Flood search algorithm is known to be an effective routing mechanism for tactical application, since it provides high degree of survivability and robustness. But it is known that it has significant drawbacks with respect to the network efficiency [1]. We consider a tactical circuit-switched grid network with a maximum of four links and two priority classes of voice traffic, Using the minimum first-derivative length (MFDL) path, we improve the blocking probability performance of the circuit-switched network without increasing the call set-up time and processor loading of the algorithm.

  • Road is typically constructed along ridge area of mountain because of topographical and economic reasons. Therefore, road may face lots of open cut slope which can easily cause rock falling. This study evaluates the structural safety of newly developed falling rock protection system which has a roof deck plate. The structural performance under self-weight, snow load and load from failing rock was investigated using a finite element numerical analysis method. From the analysis results, the H-beam space was limited not to exceed 2.2m. The deck plate was also safe under the examined loading condition. A hinge and connection in the system were investigated through detailed modelling and analysis. The results showed that the hinge was safe enough and that the connection should strengthened with appropriate stiffeners.
