With increasing use of high strength concrete tied columns in structural engineering, it becomes necessary to examine the applicability of related sections of current design codes. High strength concrete has an advantage of strength capacity and stiffness especially for column elements. This paper presents an experimental study of high strength concrete tied columns subjected to eccentric loading. The main variables included in this test were concrete compressive strength, steel amount, eccentricity, and slenderness ratio. The concrete compressive strength varied from 34.9Mpa(356kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$
) to 93.2Mpa(951kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$
) and the longitudinal steel ratios were between 1.1% and 5.5%. The eccentricity was selected for the different failure modes, i.e., compression control, balanced point, and tension control. The slenderness ratio varied from 19 to 61. The column specimens with same slenderness ratio but with different concrete compressive strength were constructed and tested. The purpose of this paper is to show failure modes of high strength reinforced concrete columns.

High strength concrete is a more effective material for columns subject to axial force and moment than for other structural elements. The purpose of this study is to review strength calculation methods for high strength concrete columus by comparison of analytical values and experimental results. The variables of column test under eccentric loading were concrete compressive strength, longitudinal steel ratio, and eccentricity of load. The tied column sections of 120×120mm and 210×210mm were tested and the eccentricity of load varied in the range from 0.16 times to 0.54 times the column depth. The analytical results using the stress-strain relationship to 0.54 times the column depth. The analytical results using the stress-strain relationship as well as the ACI's rectangular block, Zia's modified block, and the trapezoidal block are compared with experimentally obtained data, and discussed in this paper.

In recent years, due to some excellent properties of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, the use of FRP sheets for strengthening the weak concrete columns have become increasingly popular. Axial loading is the basic assumption in most of the models that are presented for estimating the compression strength of confined concrete columns. However a large number of weak concrete columns in the bending frames are under the combination of both axial and flexural loads. This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the effects of eccentricity of load on the compressive strength of concrete columns confined by FRP sheets. This research shows that the eccentricity of compression load affects decreasingly the performance of confining FRP jacket in confined columns.

An experimental investigation is conducted to examine the behavior and cracking of steel fiberre-inforced concrete spandrel L-shaped beams subjected to combined torsion, bending, and shear. The experimental program includes 12 medium-sized L-shaped spandrel beams organized into two groups, namely, specimens with longitudinal reinforcing bars, and specimens with bars and stirrups. All cases are examined with 0%, 1%, and 1.5% steel fiber volume fractions and tested under two different loading eccentricities. Test results indicate that the torque to shear ratio has a significant effect on the crack pattern developed in the beams. The strain on concrete surface follows the crack width value, and the addition of steel fibers reduces the strain. Fibrous concrete beams exhibited improved overall torsional performance compared with the corresponding non-fibrous control beams, particularly the beams tested under high eccentricity.
Structural behaviors of a sustainable hybrid column with the ultra high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC) permanent form under compression and flexure were studied. Critical state and failure stage characters are analyzed for large and small eccentricity cases. A simplified theoretical model is proposed for engineering designs and unified formulas for loading capacity of the hybrid column under compression and flexure loads are derived, including axial force and moment. Non-linear numerical analysis is carried out to verify the theoretical predictions. The theoretical predictions agree well with the numerical results which are verified by the short hybrid column tests recursively. Compared with the traditional reinforced concrete (RC) column, the loading capacity of the sustainable hybrid column is improved significantly due to UHPCC confinements.

Reinforced concrete column is an effective structural element to take advantage of high strength concrete. This paper presents an experimental and analytical strength of high strength concrete rectangular tied column sections under eccentric loading. The test variables are concrete strength, steel ratios, slenderness and eccentricity. The analytical results of the ACI's rectangular stress block, Zia's modified rectangular stress block, and a trapezoid block are compared with experimentally obtained data. It may be concluded that the trapezoid stress block provided the most reasonable column section capacities for high strength concrete columns.

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation pertaining to the creep behavior of fiber-reinforced polymeric (FRP) pultruded components subjected to sustained eccentric axial loading. Six different axial load/eccentricity combinations were investigated through the experiments. The test duration of these experiments was 2,000 hours (90 days), during which the mid-height lateral deflections of the components were recorded continually. Analytical formulations based on the Schapery's quasielastic method and a power law model were used for the prediction of the creep lateral deflection.

This study presents applications of the multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) method for predicting the ultimate loading carrying capacity (Nu) of rectangular concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns subjected to eccentric loading. A database containing 141 experimental data was collected from available literature to develop the MARS model with a total of seven variables that covered various geometrical and material properties including the width of rectangular steel tube (B), the depth of rectangular steel tube (H), the wall thickness of steel tube (t), the length of column (L), cylinder compressive strength of concrete (f'c), yield strength of steel (fy), and the load eccentricity (e). The proposed model is a combination of the MARS algorithm and the grid search cross-validation technique (abbreviated here as GS-MARS) in order to determine MARS' parameters. A new explicit formulation was derived from MARS for the mentioned input variables. The GS-MARS estimation accuracy was compared with four available mathematical methods presented in the current design codes, including AISC, ACI-318, AS, and Eurocode 4. The results in terms of criteria indices indicated that the MARS model was much better than the available formulae.

Now, on developing COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) has solar panel on the south panel only. Therefore, the wheel off-loading has to be performed periodically to reduce a induced momentum energy by a asymmetric solar panel. One of two East/West station keeping maneuver to correct simultaneously longitude and eccentricity, orbit corrections may be performed during one of the two wheel off-loading manoeuvres per day to get enough observation time for meteorological and ocean sensor. In this paper, we applied a linearized orbit maneuver equation to acquire maneuver time and delta-V. Nonlinear simulation for the station keeping is performed and compared with general station keeping strategy for fuel reduction.

This paper describes the varying material model, the analysis method and the software development for reinforced concrete circular columns confined by spiral or hoop transverse steel reinforcement and subjected to eccentric loading. The widely used Mander model of concentric loading is adapted here to eccentric loading by developing an auto-adjustable stress-strain curve based on the eccentricity of the axial load or the size of the compression zone to generate more accurate interaction diagrams. The prediction of the ultimate unconfined capacity is straight forward. On the other hand, the prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires specialized nonlinear analysis. This nonlinear procedure is programmed using C-Sharp to build efficient software that can be used for design, analysis, extreme event evaluation and forensic engineering. The software is equipped with an elegant graphics interface that assimilates input data, detail drawings, capacity diagrams and demand point mapping in a single sheet. Options for preliminary design, section and reinforcement selection are seamlessly integrated as well. Improvements to KDOT Bridge Design Manual using this software with reference to AASHTO LRFD are made.
