The awareness of the high-value industry for container terminal leads competitiveness of container terminals to keep high fiercely. In regards to competitive factors of container terminal, the most important point among several factors is seemed to be the speed of container loading and unloading on quayside. In container terminals in Korea, the productivity shows big difference even though its condition is similar to each terminal. The objective of this paper is to find the critical factors of container terminal productivity, which is dependant upon the capability, quantity of quay crane, transfer vehicle, and so on. For this purpose, we have researched related literatures, and collected data about container terminals in South Korea. Furthermore, we tested sensitive analysis to evaluate the extent of productivity by changing independent variable. And then we established the regression model to evaluate which factor has had the biggest impact on productivity. The results of this paper can give terminal operators guideline to improve productivity.
The Drucker-Prager yield criterion is combined with an equilibrium equation to provide the elastic-plastic stress distribution within rotating annular hyperbolic discs and the residual stress distribution when the angular speed becomes zero. It is verified that unloading is purely elastic for the range of parameters used in the present study. A numerical technique is only necessary to solve an ordinary differential equation. The primary objective of this paper is to examine the effect of the parameter that controls the deviation of the Drucker-Prager yield criterion from the von Mises yield criterion and the geometric parameter that controls the profile of hyperbolic discs on the stress distribution at loading and the residual stress distribution.
In this paper, a load balancing problem among operators is considered, when one or more identical machines can be assigned to an operator. The operations of a job are separated into three categories : machine-controlled elements, operator-controlled elements and machine/operator-controlled elements. Machining or forming operations are included into the first category. The second category includes inspection and moving to another machine, and the last category includes setup and loading/unloading operation. The objective is to balance the workloads among operators under the constraints of available machine-time and operator-time. A hierarchical heuristic solution procedure is suggested for allocating jobs to each machine and allocating machines to each operator. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated with various data set.
This paper proposes a new type of HDD suspension integrated with shape memory alloy(SMA) actuator in order to prevent the friction between the slider and the disk. A finite element analysis is undertaken to investigate modal characteristics of the proposed self loading/unloading slider. The dynamic model is formulated and its validity is proved by comparing the predicted displacement transmissibility with the measured one. A control model is then established by integrating experimentally-obtained SMA actuator dynamics. Subsequently, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve non-contact start/stop(Non CSS) modes, and control results are presented in time domain.
An experimental investigation was conducted to estimate the flexural behavior of circular concrete beams confined by carbon sheet tube under the loading and unloading cycles. Six specimens were produced with different layers of carbon sheets and with or without corrugations inside of tubes. The experimental results represented that the load and displacement capacity are increased in the specimens which have increased layers of tube and have installed corrugations inside of tubes. In order to obtain enough capacity, tubes have to keep tubes at proper layers but it can not affect positively more than certain layers to increase the layers of tube. Therefore, appropriate estimation of structural member is needed to obtain enough capacity and displacement by means of proper carbon sheet direction and layers of tube.
Dimensional accuracy is very important quality in micro forged part, especially on forged part. Dimension of forged part is changed continuously during forging process. Loading, unloading and ejecting stage affects dimensional of the forged tool. The elasto-plastic material model for billet and elastic model for die were used to analyze these changes. At same time, the calculated results were compared and analyzed by the experiment on same conditions. From the experimental and analytical studies, we can calculated the amount of difference between die and forged part, that is 0.49% based on the die dimension. The dimensional change is smaller than that of general sized-forged part,0.6%.
The paper proposes analytical forms able to represent with very good approximation the constitutive law experimentally deducible by means of uniaxial cyclic compressive tests on material having softening post-peak behaviour in compression and negligible tensile strength. The envelope, unloading and reloading curves characterizing the proposed model adequately approach structural responses corresponding to different levels of nonlinearity and ductility, requiring a not very high number of parameters to be calibrated experimentally. The reliability of the model is shown by comparing the results that it is able to provide with the ones analytically deduced from two reference models (one for concrete, another for masonry) available in the literature, and with experimental results obtained by the authors in the framework of a research in progress.
A two-dimensional progressive failure analysis method is presented for the strength characterization of the composite joints under pin loading. The eight-nodes laminated she]1 element is utilized based on the updated Lagrangian formulation. The criteria by Yamada-Sun, Tsai-Wu, and the maximum stress are used for the failure estimation. The stiffness of failed layer is degraded by the complete unloading method. No factor depending on test is included in the finite element analysis except for the material strength and stiffness. Total 20 plate specimens with and without hole are tested to validate the finite element prediction. The Tsai-Wu failure criterion most conservatively estimates the strength of laminate, and the maximum stress criterion yields the highest strength because it does not consider the coupling of the failure modes. The strength by Yamada-Sun method neglecting the matrix failure effect are located between other two methods and shows best agreement with test result for laminate with hole.
To reduce the cost of finite element analyses for sheet forming, a 3D hybrid membrane/shell method has been developed to study the springback of anisotropic sheet metals. In the hybrid method, the bending strains and stresses were analytically calculated as post-processing, using incremental shapes of the sheet obtained previously from the membrane finite element analysis. To calculate springback, a shell finite element model was used to unload the final shape of the sheet obtained from the membrane code and the stresses and strains that were calculated analytically. For verification, the hybrid method was applied to predict the springback of a 2036-T4 aluminum square blank formed into a cylindrical cup. The springback predictions obtained with the hybrid method was in good agreement with results obtained using a full shell model to simulate both loading and unloading and the experimentally measured data. The CPU time saving with the hybrid method, over the full shell model, was 75% for the punch stretching problem.
Uniaxial displacement controlled tests were performed on annealed Type 304 stainless steel at room temperature. A servo-controlled testing machine and strain measurement on the gage length were employed to measure the response to a given input. The test results exhibit that the flow stress increases nonlinearly with the strain rate and the relaxed stress at the end of the relaxation periods depends strongly on the strain rate preceding the relaxation test. The rate-dependent inelastic deformation behavior is simulated using a new unified viscoplasticity model that has the rate-dependent format of nonlinear kinematic hardening rule, which plays a key role in modeling the rate dependence of relaxation behavior. The model does not employ yield or loading/unloading criteria and consists of a flow law and the evolution laws of two tensor and one scalar-valued state variables.
