  • Experimental analysis was carried out to understand the fatigue phenomena of different thickness stainless steel overlap joining structure by Nd:YAG laser welding. The fatigue life was obtained through fatigue tests with the various levels of applied load. The fatigue life is related with the parameters such as gap condition and penetration depth through experiment. As the results, tensile and fatigue strength were proportional in heat input level and bead width was identified the major factor for joining strength. Also the fatigue life were decreased depend on gap condition, it was more affected at the low load level.

  • A numerical study is carried out to assess the dynamic response and damage level of one- and two-way reinforced concrete (RC) panels subjected to explosive loads by using finite element LS-DYNA software. The precision of the numerical models is validated with the previous experimental test. The calibrated models are used to conduct a series of parametric studies to evaluate the effects of panel wall dimensions, concrete strength, and steel reinforcement ratio on the blast-resistant capacity of the panel under various magnitudes of blast load. The results are used to develop pressure-impulse (P-I) diagrams corresponding to the damage levels defined according to UFC-3-340-02 manual. Empirical equations are proposed to easily construct the P-I diagrams of RC panels that can be efficiently used to assess its safety level against blast loads.

  • This paper presents experimental results of the fuzzy controller for DC servo motor. The fuzzy controller consists of 9 quantized levels and 25 fuzzy rules. The fine Controller is employed in the fine control mode when the value of error is between -0.03 and +0.03, whereas the coarse controller is used in the coarse control mode when the value of error is in the outside range of -0.03 and +0.03. The experimental results show that the fuzzy controller provides a better performance (lower overshoot and error) than the PID controller regardless of the load applied.

  • The fatigue tests were performed on the high strength concrete beams with single edged notch which was reinforced steel fiber. The steel fibers were used 1.0 percent by volume fraction. These were tested consists of constant amplitude tests for different levels of loading. The test program included endurance limit with repect to flexural fatigue and relation of load-CMOD(crack mouth opening displacement). The results of test, it is found from S-N curve that the fatigue strength for a life of 2 million cycles of load was approximately 70percent with respect to the static ultimate strength .

The influence of load pulse shape on pressure-impulse diagrams of one-way RC slabs

  • This study is aimed at providing an efficient analytical model to obtain pressure- impulse diagram of one-way reinforced concrete slabs subjected to different shapes of air blast loading using single degree of freedom method (SDOF). A tri-linear elastic perfectly plastic SDOF model has been used to obtain the pressure-impulse diagram to correlate the blast pressure and the corresponding concrete flexural damage. In order to capture the response history for the slab, a new approximately SDOF method based on the conventional SDOF method is proposed and validated using published test data. The influences of pulse loading shape on the pressure-impulse diagram are studied. Based on the results, a pressure-impulse diagram generation method using SDOF and an analytical equation for the pressure-impulse diagram is proposed to different damage levels and different blast loading shapes.

  • The mechanical properties of biological materials depend on numerous factors. The majority of these relationships are still unknown today, especially with regard to their quantitative characteristics. The reason is that biological materials constitute biomechanical systems of very complex construction, whose behavior cannot be characterized by simple physical constants, as for example can that of engineering materials. The objectives of this investigation were to determine the compression creep and recovery properties of rice stalks at various levels of applied load The compression creep and recovery behavior of the rice stalk could be predicted precisely by rheological model which approached closely to the measured values. But the coefficients of the Burgers recovery model were different from those of the creep model. The Steady state creep behavior occurred at the higher level of force and the logarithmic creep behavior occurred at the lower level of force. The mechanical model being expected the creep behavior in relation with the level of applied load, which was well explained that the rice stalk might be visco-elastic material.

  • This paper describes the harmonic analysis method of industrial power systems using PTW(Power Tools for Window). Voltage/current distortion levels and filter at steady state are calculated by harmonic load flow. Special features of its input processes PTW is utilized in order to facilitate creation of new simulation cares. Harmonics at transient state, the filter and the load variation, are analysed to diagnosis the power quality in actual industrial plant model.

  • Model fer the dynamic simulation of dynamic behaviors of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is provided. This model is based upon (1) coupled mass and heat transfer characteristics and (2) important chemical reactions such as electrochemical and reforming reactions in high temperature fuel cells such as SOFC. It is found that the thermal inertia of solid materials in SOFC plays an important role to the dynamic behavior of cell temperature. Dynamic characteristics of cell voltage, power, and chemical compositions with different levels of load change are investigated.

  • This study aims to evaluate the optimal size of the hydrogen facility to be installed in a zero-energy district in terms of load matching and facility efficiency. A mismatch between energy generation and consumption is a common occurrence in zero-energy districts. This mismatch adversely effects the energy grid. However, using an energy carrier such as hydrogen can solve this problem. To determine the optimal size of hydrogen fuel cells to be used on-site, simulation of hydrogen installation is required at both district-and building- levels. Each case had four operating schedules. Therefore, we evaluated eight scenarios in terms of load matching, heat loss, and facility operational efficiency. The results indicate that district-level installation of hydrogen facilities enables more efficient energy use. Additionally, based on the proposed model, we can calculate the optimal size of the hydrogen facility.

  • This paper presents experimental modal analysis and static load testing results to validate the accuracy of dynamic parameters-based damage locating indices in RC structures. The study investigates the accuracy of different dynamic-based damage locating indices compared to observed crack patterns from static load tests and how different damage levels and scenarios impact them. The damage locating indices based on mode shape curvature and mode shape fourth derivate in their original forms were found to show anomalies along the beam length and at the supports. The modified forms of these indices show higher sensitivity in locating single and multi-cracks at different damage scenarios. The proposed stiffness reduction index shows good sensitivity in detecting single and multi-cracks. The proposed anomalies elimination procedure helps to remove the anomalies along the beam length. Also, the adoption of the proposed weighting method averaging procedure and normalization procedure help to draw the overall crack pattern based on the adopted set of modes.
