A few studies have examined the relationship between living arrangements and mental health status among older Korean immigrants in the United States and older Koreans in South Korea. This study attempts to fill this gap by conducting a comparative study to understand the relationship between living arrangements and psychological distress. Survey data from older Koreans between the ages of 60 and 79 from the two countries (N= 480) was analyzed descriptively and in hierarchical multiple regressions. This study found that among older Korean immigrants in the United States 26.4 % of those living alone and 7.3 % of those living with a spouse only reported 'severe' psychological distress while their counterparts in South Korea 20.0 % of those living alone and 20.6 % of those living with a spouse only reported 'severe' psychological distress. The hierarchical multivariate analysis reveled that older Koreans living alone are not significant predictor of psychological distress in both countries. Interestingly, older Korean immigrants living with a spouse only and living with others are significant predictors of psychological distress. This study also contributes to the existing literature by searching for diverse conditions that lead to mental health problems among older Koreans in both countries.
The degree of nursing service requirement can be determined by functional health status and a predictive explanation for the status on the living-alone elderly is essential to plan home-care nursing intervention. The purpose of this study is to explore the functional health status of living-alone elderly. Especially the main purpose is to contrast the differences of the status between the residential living-alone elderly and institutional living-alone elderly. This study was conducted through the interview by the students of nurse college who were previously trained during the months of Oct. and Nov. 1996. Sample participants located in Tong-Gu and Seo-Gu of Kwangju City. To contrast the functional health status. this study tried to utilize the Activity Inventory(AI). Among the AI's this study adopted the Physical Activity of Daily Living(PADL) and Instrumental Activity of Daily Living(IADL). Results of the study show that the home-care nursing intervention for the living-alone elderly is urgent more for the residential than for the institutional. It seems that the residential living-alone elderly suffer from inability in Physical Activity of Daily Living. As the residential elderly who have some physical lacks prefer the institution. it is recommended to support physical lacks for the institutional. And more mental-emotional support is recommended for the residential living-alone elderly. The degree of the residential's IADL is higher than that of the institutional. It seems that it was caused by the reason that the residential's needs for the minimum level of life is greater than that of the institutional. So the polypharmacy in elderly nursing-home residents must be considered as sigificant.

Chi-square test and logistic regression of complex sampling design of the KNHAENS and used the survey analysis method by SPSS (version 18). Results: Sleep time of female elders living alone was the shortest which was 2.59 times that of male elders living with a spouse. Stress awareness of female elders living with a spouse was the highest, which was 3.21 times that of male elders living with a spouse. Depression was the highest in female elders living alone, which was 2.26 times that of male elders living with a spouse. Suicidal idea was the strongest in female elders living alone, which was 2.87 times that of male elders living alone. Conclusion: Female elders living alone were weakest in regards to socio-economical aspect with the highest rate of poverty, low educational status, and unemployment. As an emerging market in central Asia, Kazakhstan's housing market is witnessing increasing demands. Though Korean construction industries have attempted to take advantage of this opportunity, inadequate understanding of the local living demands have kept the industries from successfully establishing themselves in the foreign context. The goal of this research is to derive architectural planning implications regarding the living demands by investigating changes being made to the housing structure. By analyzing 11 apartment unit plans, it was found that Kazakhs had a living demand for more spacious living rooms and functional spaces. In the effort to improve the livingroom environment and usability such as enlarging the livingroom, removing the living room wall for open space or expanding the inner space facing outside is understood that the living room is considered as an important space. The fact that spaces such as dress rooms and utility rooms are being added in the housing market, reflects the demand of functional spaces. These demands are considered as the reflection of the traditional life style of nomad culture and the cold local climate. Therefore, it can be said that the apartment unit plans distributed in the Korean housing market are quite compatible with the Kazakh housing market since they offer spatious living rooms, while the latter founding implies the changes that ought to be made for a successful establishment in the foreign market.

Problems of housing, healthcare, social exchanges, and lonely feelings of vulnerable social groups such as the elderly living alone in rural and fishing villages should be resolved by guaranteeing minimum residential rights and levels to restore the sense of self-esteem and social stability and to maintain the rural communities and these should be the object of social interest and support. The housing problems of rural and fishing villages should be resolved not through supply to meet demand but by beginning with providing the ways to attain mutual interaction through the program that recognizes housing as merit goods to maintain the regional communities This research examines more minutely the problems caused by poor housing conditions of rural and fishing villages and attempts to present rural and fishing village type community living home as an alternative through regeneration. The results of this research are as follows. First, the administrative support system should be built to support the community living home in its beginning, process, completion, and even post management. Second, education for reinforcing capabilities to help understand the community living home should continually conducted on the occupants, villagers, and related organizations. Third, in order to expand the community living home, research and development should be made so that the zero-energy house, the alternative energy utilizing house, etc. can be widely used. In building community living home for vulnerable social groups in rural and fishing villages, practical alternatives suitable to the regional realities should be presented and practiced so that the community living home can be built to the satisfaction of all the villagers and the occupants, and the improvement measures should be presented through constant interest and monitoring.
Objectives: I examined the health and oral health status of elderly people living alone compared to elderly people living with their families by using data (2014) from the 6th Two-Year Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Methods: Among 1,454 health survey respondents aged 65 years and over who participated in the 6th Two-Year Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 2014, 311 were elderly people living alone and 1,143 were elderly people living with their families. Results: In terms of socio-demographic characteristics, the percentage of elderly people living alone was high especially in women and when the subjects' age, education level, and income level were low. In terms of oral health status, the percentage of elderly people living alone was high when elderly people thought that their subjectively viewed health was poor and the frequency of drinking and exercise was low. In terms of oral health status, the percentage of elderly people living alone was high among elderly people who did not have good oral health in their subjective view and did not get oral examinations for a year and had a lot of difficulty chewing. Conclusions: Family support or additional social support for elderly people who live alone should be considered to promote the healthy lives of elderly people.
The purpose of this research is to study the need for living and the relationship between the need and the perceived family well-being among families in rural areas and to suggest the index of the family well-being for them. One hundred fifty homemakers in the six rural areas in Chunlabuk-do were sampled for this research and all of them were aged under 60. Data were statistically analized by using statistical softwere package 'Statgraphics' and null jhyposeses were statistically tested at p<.10. From the results of this study, rural homemakers reported, generally, higher levels of the need for the various aspects of family living compared to those of the perceived levels of the family well-being. The need, the satisfaction and the dissatisfaction levels of the various aspects of family oiving were affected more frequently by living area, average monthly income, and the period of living whitin the same area. The satisfaction with the family well-being and living in rural area were affected more powerfully by subvariables related to the family financial living than by any other variables. The need for economic environment, the satisfaction with perceived level of assets, and income were major representative variables for the family finances. In case of the family interpersonal living, the need and the satisfaction with relationship between spouses and the family structure were more powerful varibales than any other variables. The relationship betweenparents and children was more powerful variable for the perceived family well-being than any other variables related to the family interpersonal living. Sampled homemakers thought that the satisfaction with relationship between spouses was the most important in family interpersonal living. The needs for household equipment and living conditions was positively influenced on the need of household work and the satisfaction with those was negatively influnced on satisfaction with present household work.
This study was to identify differences in mortality risk by living arrangements among older adults. We analyzed data from 3,827 older adults who took part in the 2014 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. Cox proportional hazards regression was used for data analysis. The significant factors associated with mortality risk in living with others were male, education level, self-rated health, limitation of instrumental activities of daily living, cognitive dysfunction, and depression. The significant factors associated with mortality risk in living alone were regular exercise, limitation of instrumental activities of daily living, and cognitive dysfunction. This study is significant in that it examined whether there are differences between mortality risk by living arrangements. According to the results of this study, nursing intervention should be developed to decrease mortality by living arrangements.
As the patients who need to undergo liver transplant operation continues to grow. the number of livers that are donated can not keep pace with the demand. With the development of surgery skills, the necessity for operations from living donors is increasing. Nevertheless, satisfactory research has been conducted on the factors which generally affect the living donors. In this article. therefore. researchers focused on the factors which generally affect the donating liver donor in order to design a plan for recommending liver donation from living donors. The subjects were 91 living liver donors in C university hospital from October 1. 2000 to December 31. 2003. The results on the uncertainty of living donor, by test sheet. were analyzed with SAS program. The final results were as follows: 1. The uncertainty of the living donors was 51.54 marks per full credit 100. 2. The factor with the greatest effect on donation was the possibility of survival of the donor, followed by the admission period. marriage status and age. In recommending the living donation, the rate of donor survival after the operation was 5.2 times higher than death, 5.2 times higher when the admission period was under 20 days. 5.0 times higher when married. and 27.3 times higher when the family-related donation was very active at the age of 20s than in the 50s. These results suggest that all medical staffs should care for living donors with more interest and activity to give them the least complaints in admission and the lowest possibilities for complication. To enhance the survival rate and improve the surgical success rate. on-going monitoring should include regular health-checks. and continual efforts and education should be made to care for the health condition of the living donors after donation.

The purpose of this study is to suggest various directions of living hanbok and proposed the living hanbok design that integrated the tradition and the contemporary, as well as the past and present with denim material that represents the youth cultureby while using the motif of Korean Jogakbo. For the research method, the data on living hanbok, denim, and Jogakbo were surveyed to develop and produce a living hanbok design. The development of a living hanbok design emphasized the meaning of longing for an accumulation of good fortune, by using the concept of 'wishing for fortune' including the symbolic images of denim and Jogakbo. The production results of this study are as follows. First, the Jogakbo motif consisted of patterns yearning for harmony, great fortune, longevity, and many children, and the living hanbok design integrated with the denim material symbolized the convergence of the past and present and the harmony of eastern and western cultures. The study could verify that the living hanbok design was recreated in a contemporary sense to be used everyday by expressing contemporary senses in a traditional image. Second, leftover fabric pieces and recycled materials that can be abandoned by the material market were used for denim. This study could also develop the living hanbok design as a sustainable design through upcycling, an important social trend, puting an emphasis on carrying out socio-ethical responsibilities. Third, denim Jogakbo work, which is connected by small pieces of denim material, used to be a difficult and labor intensive handicraft, but it could be proposed as a new high value-added fashion and generate contemporary living hanbok with a new image.
