Propellant filling and holding test was carried out using liquid oxygen as a working fluid. The feeding line system has a filter at propellant tank outlet. Vaporization of liquid oxygen during holding after completion of filling and effect of vaporization to recirculation performance in this system was observed. Filling rate and pressure of tank ullage had the effect on state of liquid oxygen in feeding line. There was no geysering in feeding line during holding because of the position of filter.

The performance test of recirculation line in propellant feeding system was carried out. Liquid oxygen was used as cryogenic propellant and helium was used as recirculation promotion gas. Tests were done in cases at atmospheric pressure and at pressure of 4 barg in the ullage space of propellant tank. Liquid oxygen recirculation flowrate with helium injection flowrate and temperature distribution along the line were measured. There was appropriate helium injection flowrate for gas-lift recirculation system. Test data were used to make calculation program by test data correlation method. In this paper the procedure of calculation was presented and the results were compared to test data.

As a cryogen, LOx is a light blue, odorless, transparent liquid. Also it is not shock sensitive and does not decompose. However, it is a strong oxidizer and will vigorously support combustion. Therefore all harmful contaminants (such as grease, oil, fingerprint and organic materials) that could cause malfunctions, fires, or explosions in a oxygen environments must be completely removed prior to the introduction of oxygen. Especially, grease ingredient located inside of the LOx supply line, pipe and PHS (Pneumo-Hydraulic System) part can make drastic chemical reaction with oxygen. Therefore, to protect rapid reaction such as explosion, grease ingredient must be surely eliminated by a regular and irregular degreasing. Study on the availability, effectiveness and selection of degreasing detergents and method is described in this paper, and it will be useful for the construction and management of IPP test facility.

A firing test of the 75 tonf-class liquid rocket engine to be used as the first and second stage engines of the KSLV-II was carried out at the rocket engine test facility(RETF). Since this engine uses liquid oxygen as the oxidizer, which is a cryogenic fluid, it is essential that the chill down of the supply pipe line and engine proceed for the firing test; thus, the given inlet requirements must be met. Moreover, it is important to understand the chill down characteristics of the facility and the engine and the amount of liquid oxygen consumed in the chill down process for efficient test operation in the future. In this paper, chill down characteristics of the supply pipe and the engine were evaluated through the investigation of the chill down process of the 75 tonf-class liquid rocket engine at each stage before and after run tank pressurization. In addition, the amount of liquid oxygen consumed was also evaluated.
A computational fluid analysis was performed on an LOx line system of a liquid rocket engine. The model was created with 3D CAD and imbedded to the 3D CFD program. Before the full scale analysis on the system was carried out, each components with simplified models was analyzed to save time and cost. As a result, the inlet pressure of the gas generator should be compensated with a certain device unless the inlet pressure of the line system is sufficiently high. The flow pattern of the exit of the system was dependant upon the location of the orifice as well as the size. As a whole the line system analyzed met the requirements, and will be tested and confirmed after being manufactured.
Experimental data for the on-line estimation of cell concentration and growth rate are presented. For this purpose, we utilized the on-line calculation of the oxygen uptake rate (OUR), which was derived from a liquid phase dynamic mass balance for the oxygen during the active growth phase in cyclosporin A (CyA) fermentation. The cell yield coefficient, based on the oxygen $(Y_{x/o})$for both suspended and immobilized cells of Tolypocladium inflatum, was estimated as $1.9 gDCW/gO_2$ from a very good linear correlation between the cell mass produced and the total oxygen consumed. The calculated yield showed a good agreement with the value of $(Y_{x/o})$ generated from the correlation between the cell growth rate and the oxygen uptake rate. In addition, further experimental data are given, which were also applied to determine the specific oxygen uptake rate of T. inflatum cells during the exponential phase of CyA fermentation. A theoretical basis for the analysis of these fermentation parameters is also provided.
The spreading fire of very small floating particles after they are ignited is fast and t therefore dangerous. The research on this area has been limited to experiments and global simulations which treat them as dusts or gaseous fuel with certain concentration well m mixed with air. This research attempted micro-scale analysis of ignition of those particles modeling them as liquid droplets. For the beginning, the in-line array of fuel droplets is modeled by two-dimensional, unsteady conservation equations for mass, momentum, energy and species transport in the gas phase and an unsteady energy equation in the liquid phase. They are solved numerically in a generalized non-orthogonal coordinate. The single step chemical reaction with reaction rate controlled by Arrhenius’ law is assumed to a assess chemical reaction numerically. The calculated results show the variation of temperature and the concentration profile with time during evaporation and ignition process. Surrounding oxygen starts to mix with evaporating fuel vapor from the droplet. When the ignition condition is met, the exothermic reactions of the premixed gas initiate a and burn intensely. The maximum temperature position gradually approaches the droplet surface and maximum temperature increases rapidly following the ignition. The fuel and oxygen concentration distributions have minimum points near the peak temperature position. Therefore the moment of ignition seems to have a premixed-flame aspect. After this very short transient period minimum points are observed in the oxygen and fuel d distributions and the diffusion flame is established. The distance between droplets is an important parameter. Starting from far-away apart, when the distance between droplets decreases, the ignition-delay time decreases meaning faster ignition. When they are close and after the ignition, the maximum temperature moves away from the center line of the in-line array. It means that the oxygen at the center line is consumed rapidly and further supply is blocked by the flame. The study helped the understanding of the ignition of d droplet array and opened the possibility of further research.
The most efficient method for reducing the organic content of dilute liquid waste is by aerobic-biological treatment. Basically, the organisms responsible for treatment possess the ability to decompose complex organic compounds and to use the energy so liberated for their bodily functions: reproduction, growth, locomotion and so on. That part of organic matter used to produce energy is converted to the essentially stable end products of carbon dioxide, water and ammonia, while the remainder is converted to new cells which can be settled and thus removed from the liquid before the waste is discharged to the receiving body water. Oxygen must be supplied continuously during the aerobic process. In the field of sewage treatment the Warburg respirometer is used mainly for the measurement of the oxygen uptake of samples. In this experiment the Warburg constant volume respirometer was used to determine the oxygen uptake by bacteria in the presence of various glucose concentrations. The rate of oxygen uptake by the bacteria was expressed as the respiratory quotient. The result indicated that the oxygen uptake was proportional to the glucose concentration. The expecting equation of the regression line was Y=7.7+0.12X where Y: respiratory quotient, ${\mu}l.\;O_2$ taken up/mg. dry wt. bacterium/hr. X: concentration of glucose, mg/l

A basic design for a Technical Development Model (TDM) of liquid oxygen lines from the turbopump exit to the oxidizer valves of the combustion chamber and the gas generator was conducted to develop a turbopump-fed liquid rocket engine. The TDM is composed of straight lines, elbows, bellows, a branch, an orifice, flanges and a heat insulator. Materials were determined by consideration of operation conditions, weight constraint and manufacturing procedures. The size and the location of each component were determined by flow analysis of the required flowrate and the pressure loss. Basic designs of the components were conducted by consideration of the operating temperature and the maximum expectation operating pressure. The safety factors were evaluated by structural analysis of design of each component.
