  • As Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris increases every year, systems have been adopted to compel the use of recycled aggregate made from C&D debris, and the use of recycled aggregate in the construction field has increased. But environmental problems linked to the alkalinity of recycled aggregate have occurred, and a study on approaches to lower the alkalinity of recycled aggregate is needed. It was certified by this study that a large amount of recycled aggregate could be carbonated in the C&D debris midterm-treatment field. As a result, the density and the water absorption of recycled aggregate after carbonation reaction was improved, and pH of recycled aggregate was lowered from over 11 to 9.4. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and Thermogravimetry/Differential Thermal Analysis (TG/DTA) methods also indicated the carbonation of recycled aggregate.

  • Doctors and patients for the purpose of healing and treatment of disease through the contract will make a relationship. Doctors perform the medical practice for the state and illness of patient. Given that the patient did not cooperate in the doctor's medical practice, it is difficult to achieve the goal of disease healing. If the patient don't cooperate the medical care, and it is linked with a doctor's medical malpractice, patient's violation of obligation in medical cooperation is considered with negligence on the part of patients. However, this negligence should be limited to obvious cases that the patient's behavior is unreasonable although the doctor provides medical information to patients and induced the patient's response. Also, patient's violation of obligation in medical cooperation must result in adjusting the indemnification via a setoff of fault except the cases having causal relationship between doctor's fault and malpractice.

  • Nephrogenic syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis (NSIAD) is a rare X-linked genetic condition caused by a gain-of-function mutation of arginine vasopressin receptor 2 gene, AVPR2. We report the case of a male neonate diagnosed with NSIAD based on his DNA sequence of the AVPR2 gene and the clinical course. He demonstrated a complete correction of hyponatremia using oral urea. We suggest that (1) sequencing analysis of the AVPR2 gene ought to be done in newborns with prolonged euvolemic hyponatremia, hypo-osmolality, high urinary sodium and normal/low or undetectable AVP levels, and that (2) oral urea is a safe and effective treatment option in infants diagnosed with NSIAD until the patients are grown-up.

  • Unilateral vocal cord paralysis occurs from a dysfunction of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. It causes a characteristic hoarseness, shortness of breath and swallowing disability. Prompt injection laryngoplasty is a treatment options that aims to improve these symptoms less invasively and easily than any other procedures. Cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) is widely used injection material. It is non-mammalian polysaccharides derived from streptococcus strain and well known for its duration in vocal cord about 3-6 months after injection. However, there were no complication reports such as infection or rejection after HA injection laryngoplasty in previous report. We present a case of patient with laryngeal abscess after transcricothyroid membrane percutaneous HA injection laryngoplasty.

  • A chromia-pillared clay has been prepared by ion exchange type intercalation reaction between the sodium ion in montmorillonite and the trimeric chromium oxyformate (TCF) ion, and by subsequent heat-treatment. The structural and thermal properties have been systematically studied by thermal analysis, powder XRD, IR spec-troscopy, and XAS. The gallery height of~6.8 $\AA$ upon intercalation of the TCF ion suggests that the $Cr_3O$ plane is parallel to the aluminosilicate layers. Even though the basal spacing of TCF intercalated clay decreases slightly upon heating, the layer structure was retained up to $550^{\circ}C$ as confirmed by XRD and TG/DTA. Ac-cording to the EXAFS spectroscopic analysis, it is identified that the (Cr-Cr) distance of 3.28 $\AA$ between vertex-linked CrO6 octahedra in TCF splits into 2.64 $\AA$, 2.98 $\AA$, and 3.77 $\AA$ due to the face-, edge-, and corner-shared CrO6 octahedra after heating at $400^{\circ}C$, implying that a nano-sized chromium oxide phase was stabilized within the interlayer space of clay.

  • The complex, K3[La(TTHA)]5H,O, was prepared and its crystal structure was analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. In the complex, the La(Ⅲ) ion adopts a ten-coordinate geometry with four nitrogen atoms and six carboxyl oxygen atoms from the same TTHA ligand molecule. Its coordination polyhedron can be described as a distorted bicapped square antiprism. Each [La(TTHA)]3- anion is linked by K+ cations via carboxyl groups of TTHA ligand to form a three dimensional crystal structure. The thermal properties were investigated by TG and DTA techniques in argon atmosphere. The materials resulting from thermal treatment were La(OH)3 and K2O which were identified by powder X-ray diffraction technique.

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. While its precise etiology is unknown, such factors as oxidative stress, impairment of mitochondrial respiration, excitotoxicity and inflammation may play roles in its pathogenesis. Although the role of apoptosis in the process of dopaminergic neuronal death has been highlighted in studies using postmortem brains and experimental models of PD, other evidence implicates both apoptosis and non-apoptotic death in PD. • Tyrosine kinase inhibitor is known to prolong progression free survival in radioiodine refractory thyroid cancer patients. Fatigue/asthenia/malaise is one of most common adverse events by the tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment, and management of the adverse event is important to keep the drug medication longer which is essential for the survival benefit. In the case report, a radioiodine refractory thyroid cancer patient receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitor experienced severe fatigue, and a pathologic fracture of right humerus occurred by slipping down which was tightly linked with the adverse event of the drug. The pathologic fracture was surgically well managed and the adverse event was well controlled by supportive managements combined with dose reduction of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The drug administration to the patient was kept more than 1 year without progression of the disease.

  • Healthcare lifelog, a personal record relating to disease treatment and healthcare, plays an important role in healthcare paradigm shifts in which medical and information technology converge. Healthcare services based on various healthcare lifelogs are being launched domestically by both large corporations and small and medium enterprises, however, they are being built on an individual platform that is dependent on each company. Therefore, the terms of lifelog data are different as well as the measurement specifications are not uniform. This study proposes a reference model for minimum common data required for sharing and utilization of healthcare lifelog. Literature study and expert survey derived 3 domain, 17 essential items, and 51 sub-items. The model provides definition, measurement data format, measurement method, and precautions for each detailed measurement item, and provides necessary guidelines for data and service design and construction for healthcare service. This study has its significance as a basic research supporting the activation of ecosystem by ensuring interoperability of data between heterogeneous healthcare devices linked to digital healthcare platform.

  • Peptides are short chain of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They are widely used as effective and biocompatible active ingredients in cosmetic industry. In this study, we developed novel peptide mixture and identified its anti-pigmentation effect on melanocytes and keratinocytes. Our results revealed that peptide mixture inhibited melanosome biogenesis through the regulation of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, a key factor of melanogenesis in melanocytes. And we observed that peptide mixture inhibited melanosome uptake through the reduction of protease-activated receptor 2, a phagocytosis-related receptor in keratinocytes. Furthermore, peptide mixture activated autophagy system resulting in degradation of transferred melanosomes in keratinocytes. The anti-pigmentation effect of multi-targeting peptide mixture was assessed in a human skin equivalent model (MelanoDerm). Melanin contents in epidermal layer were significantly decreased by topical treatment of peptide mixture, suggesting that it can be applied as a novel cosmetics material having a whitening function.
