  • This paper considers a fault detection and diagnosis using estimation method in uncertain systems. In the state estimation method, we use the robust H$\infty$ FIR filtering algorithm. A novel aspect of the fault detection technique described here is that it explicitly accounts for the effects of simplified models and errors due to the linearization of nonlinear systems at an operating point.

  • In this paper, we propose dynamic hybrid control method which takes the manipulator dynamics into consideration and extend to two cooperating robots. The first step is the linearization of the manipulator dynamics and the second step is the design of position/force controllers for the linearized model which takes account of both the command response and the robustness of the controllers to modeling errors and disturbance. We also consider load sharing for each robot.

  • This paper presents decision feedback equalizers using a recurrent neural network trained algorithm using extended Kalman filter(EKF) and sigma-point Kalman filter(SPKF). EKF is propagated, analytically through the first-order linearization of the nonlinear system. This can introduce large errors in the true posterior mean and covariance of the Gaussian random variable. The SPKF addresses this problem by using a deterministic sampling approach. The features of the proposed recurrent neural equalizer And we investigate the bit error rate(BER) between EKF and SPKF.

  • In this paper, addressed is the control problem of generating a formation for a group of unmanned surface and underwater vehicles. The formation control scheme proposed in this work is based on a fusion of theleader-follower and virtual reference approaches. This scheme gives a formation constraint representation that is independent of the number of vehicles in the formation and the resulting control algorithm is scalable. One of the most important features in controller design is the ability of the controller to globally and exponentially stabilize the formation errors defined by the formation constraints. The proposed controller is based on feedback linearization, and the formation errors are shown to be globally and exponentially stable in the sense of Lyapunov.

  • This study evaluates the approximation errors of the existing linearized equation for a servovalve nonlinear flowrate characteristic. At first, the errors are evaluated on flowrate/pressure characteristics diagrams. Subsequently, they are investigated with time response simulation results for several hydraulic control systems. To enable systematic evaluation of computational error, the authors propose three kinds of equations with restructured forms of the existing linearized equation. As results of the evaluations, it is ascertained that comparatively good computational accuracy can be achieved with the existing linearized equation when both an operating point for the linearized equation and operating range of the hydraulic system stay near the flowrate axis of the flowrate/pressure characteristics diagram. In addition, the results show that comparatively big computational error may occur when operating range of a hydraulic system stay apart from the flowrate axis of the flowrate/pressure characteristics diagram.

  • An application of H$_{\infty}$ synthesis to contact control of a manipulator is suggested. Based on computed torque linearization of a manipulator, a target dynamics for contact motion control is defined and used as a reference model. The target dynamics relates position and force errors through free motion impedance and force error compensators. The H$_{\infty}$ control synthesis is adopted to find an optimum the compensator for position tied force control in various directions of the end-effector. The optimization is performed on the augmented criteria, which trades off the sensitivity function of the errors and the input load at the joints. A design example of the compensator is provided that meets the design specifications.s.

  • The WKB method has been widely used in evaluating of the propagation characteristics of planar waveguides with graded-index profiles. This method, however, yields large errors when a turning point is near or at the discontinuity in the presence of the index discontinuity or index slope discontinuity. Especially, in the case of a truncated-index profile, this phenomenon appears more clearly in the low-order modes and near the cutoff regions. The MWKB method is introduced to reduce these inherent errors of the conventional WKB method. The MWKB method is based on both the linearization of the index profile from an index discontinuity and the introduction of a virtual turning point. It is noticed that the b-v curves obtained by the MWKB method agree well with those of the finite-difference method, and that the phase shift at a turning point depends on both the index profile and its propagation constant. • In this paper, a finite impulse response(FIR) fixed-lag smoother is proposed for discrete-time nonlinear systems. If the actual state trajectory is sufficiently close to the nominal state trajectory, the nonlinear system model can be divided into two parts: The error-state model and the nominal model. The error state can be estimated by adapting the optimal time-varying FIR smoother to the error-state model, and the nominal state can be obtained directly from the nominal trajectory model. Moreover, in order to obtain more robust estimates, the linearization errors are considered as a linear function of the estimation errors. Since the proposed estimator has an FIR structure, the proposed smoother can be expected to have better estimation performance than the IIR-structured estimators in terms of robustness and fast convergence. Additionally the proposed method can give a more general solution than the optimal FIR filtering approach, since the optimal FIR smoother is reduced to the optimal FIR filter by setting the fixed-lag size as zero. To illustrate the performance of the proposed method, simulation results are presented by comparing the method with an optimal FIR filtering approach and linearized Kalman filter.

  • Relative navigation system is presented using GPS measurements from a single-channel global positioning system (GPS) simulator. The objective of this study is to provide the real-time inter-satellite relative positions as well as absolute positions for two formation flying satellites in low earth orbit. To improve the navigation performance, the absolute states are estimated using ion-free GRAPHIC (group and phase ionospheric correction) pseudo-ranges and the relative states are determined using double differential carrier-phase data and singled-differential C/A code data based on the extended Kalman filter and the unscented Kalman filter. Furthermore, pseudo-relative dynamic model and modified relative measurement model are developed. This modified EKF method prevents non-linearity of the measurement model from degrading precision by applying linearization about absolute navigation solutions not about the priori estimates. The LAMBDA method also has been used to improve the relative navigation performance by fixing ambiguities to integers for precise relative navigation. The software-based simulation has been performed and the steady state accuracies of 1 m and 6 mm ($1{\sigma}$ of 3-dimensional difference errors) are achieved for the absolute and relative navigation using EKF for a short baseline leader/follower formation. In addition, the navigation performances are compared for the EKF and the UKF for 10 hours simulation, and relative position errors are mm-level for the two filters showing the similar trends.

  • In this paper, we propose direct and indirect adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control approaches for a class of nonaffine nonlinear systems. In the direct case, we use the implicit function theory to prove the existence of an ideal implicit feedback linearization controller, and hence approximate it to attain the desired performances. In the indirect case, we exploit the linear structure of a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system with constant conclusion to establish an affine-in-control model, and therefore design an indirect adaptive fuzzy controller. In both cases, the adaptation laws of the adjustable parameters are deduced from the stability analysis, in the sense of Lyapunov, to get a more accurate approximation level. In addition to their robustness, the design of the proposed approaches does not require the upper bounds of both external disturbances and approximation errors. To show the efficiency of the proposed controllers, a simulation example is presented.
