  • The crystallization characteristics of metallocene linear low density polyethylene (m-LLDPE)/linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends were investigated. The effect of blending on the induction time for crystallization, spherulites growth rate, and maximum size of spherulites was mainly considered in this study. The formation of separate crystal which is well known crystallization behavior in LLDPE/LDPE blend was not found in m-LLDPE/LLDPE blends. The blending m-LLDPE to LLDPE caused the dramatic decrease in the induction time of m-LLDPE/LLDPE blends but it seems that the blend composition shows less effect on the induction time. Lower branching number in m-LLDPE resulted in the increasing of spherulites growth rate and the maximum size of spherulites is depend upon both the induction time and spherulites growth rate of LLDPE component affected by m-LLDPE.

  • In URD(Underground Residential Distribution) power cable, experiments of WVT(Water Vapor Transmission) test on the Base Resin accomplished to specimens which contained CB(Carbon Black), anti-oxidant to base resin and made by pressing to resin of pellet or lump form. a kind of specimens was HDPE(High Density Polyethylene), MDPE(Medium Density Polyethylene), LDPE(Low Density Polyethylene), LLDPE(Linear Low Density Polyethylene), PVC(Polyvinyl Chloride). as a results of WVT test, we saw that WVT ratio was HDPE < LLDPE < MDPE≒LDPE${\ll}$ PVC. WVT properties of PVC using for jacket showed properties 15-20 times more than MDPE or LLDPE. Therefore, to development of watertightness cable, our works present need of Changing in insulating materials.

  • We are crystallized to the linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE) particles by a thermally induced phase separation(TIPS). TIPS process based on the phase separation mechanism was performed for the LLDPE system which undergoes liquid-solid phase separation. The linear low density polyethylene particle formation occurred by the nucleation and growth mechanism in the metastable region. Although the growth rates depended on the experimental conditions such as the polymer concentration and temperature, the particles were larger when the polymer concentration was higher or temperature was higher. The particles were observed by SEM. The LLDPE particle size distribution became broader when the polymer concentration was higher.

  • The crystallization characteristics of metallocene linear low density polyethylene was investigated by small angle light scattering and comparison was made with Ziegler-Natta linear low density polyethylene. The special efforts were made to find out the effects of branching number, length of branching and co-monomer content of m-LLDPE on the crystallization behavior of m-LLDPE. It was found that m-LLDPE has longer induction time to start crystallization from the amorphous state than that of conventional LLDPE with similar branching number, but the rate of crystallization seems not change much in both LLDPEs. Lowering of branching number in m-LLDPE resulted in both increasing of rate of crystallization and reducing induction time to crystallize. In general, the maximum size of spherulites of m-LLDPE is bigger than that of conventional LLDPE.

  • An experimental study was done to improve the processability and optical property of linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE) film. By modifying the molecular structure of LLDPE with electron beam we could get the improved processability and optical property of film. By appropriate dosing of electron beam and a small addition of UV-stabilizer it was possible to produce gel-free film with low haze. The proceassability was also improved.

  • The thermal and physical properties of low density polyethylene melt-blended with Metallocene linear low density polyethylenes were investigated. Since the Metallocene polyethylenes have similar MW and MWD except m-LLDPE4, it can be said that the thermal behavior and mechanical properties of the blends depend upon the l-octene comonomer content. The melting behavior of LDPE/m-LLDPE1 blends shows two melting peaks with LDPE contents higher than 50%, while the other blends show only one melting peak. It was observed that the blends show higher crystallization temperature and higher crystallinity with lower comonomer content. Initial modulus of a blend exhibited the behavior proportional to the crystallinity and the elongation at break of the blends was increased with increasing the m-LLDPE composition. Melt indices of the blends decreased with increasing the comonomer content of Metallocene LLDPE. Melt Index values of the blends show negative deviation.

  • We fabricated linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) particles via crystallization from decalin solution. In the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) process, formation of particles occurred during controlled cooling of LLDPE/decalin solution. Despite an increase of nucleation and growth rate for crystals at higher polymer concentrations, which generally results in larger particles than at lower concentration, the average diameter of LLDPE particles increased as LLDPE was more concentrated in decalin solution. In the FE-SEM micrographs, the observed particles from various concentrations were smaller than 10 ${\mu}m$, showing spherical morphologies. In addition to its effect on size, concentration of LLDPE had an broadening effect on the particle size distribution.

  • In this study. the effects of ${\gamma}$-irradiation on the crosslinking of low density poly ethylene (LLDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) containing crosslinking agents were investigated to find the degree of crosslinking in the polymer. The LDPE and LLDPE specimens were prepared by blending crosslinking agents with each polymers, and by hot-press-molding into a sheet at 13$0^{\circ}C$. The ${\gamma}$-irradiation was conducted at 50 to 150 kGy in nitrogen. The crosslinking percentage in these specimens was measured in relation to the irradiation dose and the type of crosslinking agents. The mechanical properties, thermal properties and crystallinity of specimens were examined as a function of irradiation dose as well. It was found that the degree of crosslinking of the irradiated specimens was increased with increasing irradiation dose and by the addition of crosslinking agents. The mechanical properties and thermal properties of specimens were improved in proportion to an increase in the degree of crosslinking. The crystallinity of original resin was decreased with increasing crosslinking density.
