  • Since the nonlinearity and uncertainties which inherently exist in vehicle system need to be considered in active suspension control law design, this paper proposes a new control strategy for active vehicle suspension systems by using a combined control scheme, i.e., respectively using a genetic algorithm (GA) based self-tuning PID controller and a fuzzy logic controller in two loops. In the control scheme, the PID controller is used to minimize vehicle body vertical acceleration, the fuzzy logic controller is to minimize pitch acceleration and meanwhile to attenuate vehicle body vertical acceleration further by tuning weighting factors. In order to improve the adaptability to the changes of plant parameters, based on the defined objectives, a genetic algorithm is introduced to tune the parameters of PID controller, the scaling factors, the gain values and the membership functions of fuzzy logic controller on-line. Taking a four degree-of-freedom nonlinear vehicle model as example, the proposed control scheme is applied and the simulations are carried out in different road disturbance input conditions. Simulation results show that the present control scheme is very effective in reducing peak values of vehicle body accelerations, especially within the most sensitive frequency range of human response, and in attenuating the excessive dynamic tire load to enhance road holding performance. The stability and adaptability are also showed even when the system is subject to severe road conditions, such as a pothole, an obstacle or a step input. Compared with conventional passive suspensions and the active vehicle suspension systems by using, e.g., linear fuzzy logic control, the combined PID and fuzzy control without parameters self-tuning, the new proposed control system with GA-based self-learning ability can improve vehicle ride comfort performance significantly and offer better system robustness.

  • A number of techniques have been studied for handling uncertainty in the development of expert systems. One of techniques adopted in many expert systems is the Dumpster-Shafer Evidence combination scheme. This has been the main focus among others due to is favorable features and computational complexity. In this paper, we develop and algorithm to deal with the exponential complexity inherent in Dempster-Shafer evidence combination. In the evidence combination process, we divide the frame of discernment into two groups, one for those common in both belief functions and the other for the rest. A property is found that in computing new belief function for the latter group, the result of evidence combination show linear change. The irrelevancy factor is derived and used to compute the change. The main idea of the method is to reduce the size of the frame of discernment and thus exponential complexity.

  • Cultural collage phenomena came to the fore where various differing elements combined to make a reality in the post-modern culture. Collage, a technique with which to express a unique sense of texture has been used since a long time ago by fashion illustrators, finds itself expressed in much more diverse forms and characteristics, and its meanings changed, too. The purpose of this study is to analyze the formative characteristics of collage as expressed in fashion illustrations since 2000s and look into its aesthetic meanings, and in doing so, examine effects of changes along the times that have sought plural diversity on fashion illustrations. This study selected and examined from various collage techniques three collage expression techniques including papier colle, photo montage and assemblage frequently used as techniques of fashion illustrations. Papier colle technique expressed in fashion illustration simplify forms, thereby stressing linear elements, and express lines and planes At the same time, such works provide depth to planar spaces by overlapping objects and putting together differing elements, In fashion illustrations utilizing photo montage more than one images taken from photos are cut up and reconstructed, where illusory and sometimes shocking images are conveyed through particular forms or unrealistic compositions created by casual combination of unrelated images. Unique and eccentric images are conveyed by means of assemblage through the combination of various kinds of heterogeneous materials in fashion illustrations. This not only conveys fashion images sensitively but presents each fragment as objets regardless of its original functions, and attempts at new concepts.

  • This study attempts to analyse the solid mixing in the feeder and the packing effect for pressure fluctuations in the fluidized bed. To study the mixing characteristics of solid in vibrating feeder for the stable operations of fluidized combustion, the system consisted of two groups of particles such that fine particles were located on the top of the coarse particles before vibratory mixing had started. The effects of packing materials on the pressure fluctuations in a fluidized bed were analysed by using a statistical method to interpret the behavior of fluidized bed. The experiments were carried out in a fluidized bed of 6.7cm-ID, and the experimental variables were particle sizes, of 115 to 1,015$\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter and the multi-sized particles haying Rosin-Rammler and Gaussian distributions. The settled bed heights of particles to diameter ratios (L/D) were ranged from 0.5 to 2.0. And fluidizing of particles was carried out by air. The packing materials used were screen packing, and the properties of the pressure fluctuations in the fluidized bed were measured by a differential pressure transducer. The properties of the pressure fluctuations calculated were the mean, the standard deviation, and the major frequency of the power spectral density functions. From the characteristics of fluidizing, it was found that the standard deviation of pressure fluctuations could be effectively used to explain the fluidized phenomena, and the packing materials affected severely the properties of the pressure fluctuations. As a result, from the interpretation by spectral analysis, the effects of measuring radius of pressure fluctuations on standard deviation were constant in the case of the fluidized bed with and without packing materials. However, the effects of measuring the height of pressure fluctuations on standard deviations were linear increasing for the fluidized bed with packing materials, but were constant for the fluidized bed without packing materials at 4.5cm above the gas distributor. The major frequency of pressure fluctuations was found to be nearly independent of fluidized system. Also, the major frequency of pressure fluctuations decreased with increasing packing size, and it had maximum value at 10% of the packing amount.

  • This study concerns the design strategy for the waterside of Gyeong-In Ara Waterway, Korea’s first constructed canal. This design focused on the creation of a new paradigm for waterway landscapes the major factors of which were geographical advantage, value of landscape and efficient approach. As the major space plan for the waterfront formed through the Gyeong-In Ara waterway from the Yellow Sea to the Han River, eight good views of the waterfront zone were designed by utilizing the waterway as a scenery viewpoint and, by constructing two traffic lanes for the scenic parkway connecting Incheon and the Gimpo terminal, both a linear greenway as well as various waterfront facilities were also designed. A boardwalk and bike path connecting the major theme parks were planned, and a waterfront pocket park was then organized based on the bike path. In this study, the result of the new waterfront result from the Gyeong-In Ara waterway was planned to have an identity as a new waterside culture space in order to achieve multiple functions including environmental, cultural, leisure, and tourism as well as management programs based on a variety of applied culture content and story-telling.

  • In this paper, an algorithm to compensate the inter-view mismatch in the multi-view video according to the different characteristics of cameras is presented. Interview mismatches make it difficult to merge the multi-view images and decrease the coding performance. So, a preprocessing operation to compensate the mismatches is requisite in the multi-view video coding. It is shown that the mismatch in the outputs of multi-view cameras with different electro-optical transfer functions can be approximated with a linear model of a gain and an offset. In addition, a new algorithm for estimating and compensating the inter-view mismatch based on the detection of the overlapped region is presented. Experimental results using various rectified stereo images show that the proposed method compensates inter-view mismatches more accurately compared to the conventional approach.

  • According to the recent revision of KS on the basis of the IEC, equipotential grounding systems has been come into focus and the use of surge protective devices(SPD) has been increased radically in order to operate the power system stably. $Z_nO$ varistor with non-linear resistance, which has an outstanding voltage-current(V-I) characteristic, is mainly used in power system to limit surge voltage and divert surge current. $Z_nO$ varistors are packaged several types based on the circuit assembly to be connected to a.c. power line. When the user assemble the $Z_nO$ varistors into parallel or series circuit package, there are my things to be taken into consideration including functions and thermal stability because they are directly related to the safety. We compare stabilities of each assembly type by measuring residual voltage, discharge current, leakage current and surface temperature concerned to the protection performances between a single device with a 40[kA] of current capacity and parallel or series circuits type of varistor package.

  • Recently, the needs of index structure which manages moving objects efficiently have been increased because of the rapid development of location-based techniques. Existing index structures frequently need updates because moving objects change continuatively their positions. That caused entire performance loss of the index structures. In this paper, we propose a new index structure called the TPKDB-tree that is a spatio-temporal index structure based on KDB-tree. Our technique optimizes update costs and reduces a search time for moving objects and reduces unnecessary updates by expressing moving objects as linear functions. Thus, the TPKDB-tree efficiently supports the searches of future positions of moving objects by considering the changes of moving objects included in the node as time-parameter. To maximize space utilization, we propose the new update and split methods. Finally, we perform various experiments to show that our approach outperforms others.

  • Data mining algorithms should exploit new hardware technologies to accelerate computations. Such goal is difficult to achieve in database management system (DBMS) due to its complex internal subsystems and because data mining numeric computations of large data sets are difficult to optimize. This paper explores taking advantage of existing multithreaded capabilities of multicore CPUs as well as caching in RAM memory to efficiently compute summaries of a large data set, a fundamental data mining problem. We introduce parallel algorithms working on multiple threads, which overcome the row aggregation processing bottleneck of accessing secondary storage, while maintaining linear time complexity with respect to data set size. Our proposal is based on a combination of table scans and parallel multithreaded processing among multiple cores in the CPU. We introduce several database-style and hardware-level optimizations: caching row blocks of the input table, managing available RAM memory, interleaving I/O and CPU processing, as well as tuning the number of working threads. We experimentally benchmark our algorithms with large data sets on a DBMS running on a computer with a multicore CPU. We show that our algorithms outperform existing DBMS mechanisms in computing aggregations of multidimensional data summaries, especially as dimensionality grows. Furthermore, we show that local memory allocation (RAM block size) does not have a significant impact when the thread management algorithm distributes the workload among a fixed number of threads. Our proposal is unique in the sense that we do not modify or require access to the DBMS source code, but instead, we extend the DBMS with analytic functionality by developing User-Defined Functions.

  • This paper presented solutions of displacement and stress for a circular opening which is reinforced with grouted rock bolt. It satisfies the Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) or generalized Hoek-Brown (H-B) failure criterion, and exhibits elastic-brittle-plastic or strain-softening behavior. The numerical stepwise produce for strain-softening rock mass reinforced with grouted rock bolt was developed with non-associative flow rules and two segments piecewise linear functions related to a principle strain-dependent plastic parameter, to model the transition from peak to residual strength. Three models of the interaction mechanism between grouted rock bolt and surrounding rock proposed by Fahimifar and Soroush (2005) were adopted. Based on the axial symmetrical plane strain assumption, the theoretical solution of the displacement and stress were proposed for a circular tunnel excavated in elastic-brittle-plastic and strain-softening rock mass compatible with M-C or generalized H-B failure criterion, which is reinforced with grouted rock bolt. It showed that Fahimifar and Soroush's (2005) solution is a special case of the proposed solution for n = 0.5. Further, the proposed method is validated through example comparison calculated by MATLAB programming. Meanwhile, some particular examples for M-C or generalized H-B failure criterion have been conducted, and parametric studies were carried out to highlight the influence of different parameters (e.g., the very good, average and very poor rock mass). The results showed that, stress field in plastic region of surrounding rock with considering the supporting effectiveness of the grouted rock bolt is more than that without considering the effectiveness of the grouted rock bolt, and the convergence and plastic radius are reduced.
