  • Vehicle dynamics control (VDC) has been a breakthrough and become a new terminology for the safety of a driver and improvement of vehicle handling. This paper examines the usefulness of a brake steer system (BSS), which uses differential brake forces for steering intervention in the context of VDC, In order to help the car to turn, a yaw moment can be achieved by altering the left/right and front/rear brake distribution. The steering function achieved through BSS can then be used to control lateral position in an unintended road departure system. An 8-DOF non-linear vehicle model including STI tire model will be validated using the equations of motion of the vehicle, and the non-linear vehicle dynamics. Since fuzzy logic can consider the nonlinear effect of vehicle modeling, fuzzy controller is designed to explore BSS feasibility, by modifying the brake distribution through the control of the yaw rate of the vehicle. The control strategies developed will be tested by simulation of a variety of situation; the possibility of VDC using BSS is verified in this paper.

Post-buckling analysis of piles by perturbation method

  • To investigate the critical buckling load and post-buckling behavior of an axially loaded pile entirely embedded in soil, the non-linear large deflection differential equation for a pinned pile, based on the Winkler-model and the discretionary distribution function of the foundation coefficient along pile shaft, was established by energy method. Assuming that the deflection function was a power series of some perturbation parameter according to the boundary condition and load in the pile, the non-linear large deflection differential equation was transformed to a series of linear differential equations by using perturbation approach. By taking the perturbation parameter at middle deflection, the higher-order asymptotic solution of load-deflection was then found. Effect of ratios of soil depth to pile length, and ratios of pile stiffness to soil stiffness on the critical buckling load and performance of piles (entirely embedded and partially embedded) after flexural buckling were analyzed. Results show that the buckling load capacity increases as the ratios of pile stiffness to soil stiffness increasing. The pile performance will be more stable when ratios of soil depth to pile length, and soil stiffness to pile stiffness decrease.

  • The two common numerical methods to approximate the solution of partial differential equations are the finite element method and the finite difference method. They both lead to solving large sparse linear systems. For many applications, it is not unusal that the order of matrix is greater than 10, 000. For this kind of problem, a direct method such as Gaussian elimination can not be used because of the prohibitive cost. To this end, many iterative methods with modest cost have been studied and proposed by numerical analysts.(omitted)

조합하중을 받는 일정체적 캔틸레버 기둥의 정확탄성곡선 (Elastica of Cantilever Column with Constant Volume Subjected to Combined Loads)

  • 이 논문은 일정체적 캔틸레버 기둥의 정확탄성곡선(elastica)에 관한 연구이다. 기둥의 자유단에 압축하중과 모멘트 하중으로 구성되는 조합하중이 작용하는 캔틸레버 기둥의 정확탄성곡선을 지배하는 비선형 미분방정식과 경계조건을 유도하였다. 미분방정식에는 전단변형효과를 고려하였다. 기둥의 변단면으로는 정다각형 단면을 갖는 선형, 포물선형 및 정현의 변단면을 채택하였다. 기둥의 정확탄성곡선을 해석하기 위하여 유도된 미분방정식을 수치해석하였다. 수치해석의 결과를 이용하여 기둥의 무차원 변수들이 정확탄성곡선에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 실험실 규모의 실험을 실시하여 이 연구에서 얻어진 수치해석의 결과를 검증하였다.

Parametric Instability Boundaries for Spatial Subharmonics in Photorefractive Moving Gratings: Theory and Experiments

  • We have derived a nonlinear spatiotemporal differential equation for space-charge fields from Kukhtarev’s material equations in a moving coordinate system and obtained the spatial subharmonic instability boundaries by using linear stability analysis. It is also found that there is an analogy between the temporal subharmonic and the spatial subharmonc instabilities in the sense that the governing differential equations describing the instability boundaries are formally identical. The experiments for generating spatial subharmonic waves are performed in a photorefractive $Bi_{12}SiO_{20}$ crystal by using conventional moving grating technique. The threshold detunings are experimentally determined and the results are compared with the theory.

  • This paper is devoted to the minimal and maximal bounded solutions for general time interval quadratic backward stochastic differential equations with stochastic conditions. A general existence result is established by the method of convolution, the exponential transform, Girsanov's transform and a priori estimates, where the terminal time is allowed to be finite or infinite, and the generator g is allowed to have a stochastic semi-linear growth and a general growth in y, and a quadratic growth in z. This improves some existing results at some extent. Some new ideas and techniques are also applied to prove it.

변화폭 원호형 띠기초의 자유진동 (Free Vibrations of Circular Strip Foundations with Variable Breadth)

  • This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of circular strip foundations with the variable breadth. Taking into account effects of both rotatory inertia and shear deformation, differential equations governing free vibrations of such foundations are derived. The Winkler foundation is chosen as the model of soil foundation. The breadth of strip foundation is assumed to be a linear function. The differential equations are solved numerically to calculate natural frequencies. In numerical examples, the strip foundations with the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped. clamped-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints are considered. The parametric studies are conducted and the lowest four frequency parameters are reported in figures as the non-dimensional forms.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to solve stochastic fluid flow models applied to the analysis of ceil loss of an ATM multiplexer. Existing stochastic fluid flow models have been analyzed by using linear differential equations. In case of large state space, however. analyzing stochastic fluid flow model without numerical errors is not easy. To avoid this numerical errors and to analyze stochastic fluid flow model with large state space. we develope a new computational algorithm. Instead of solving differential equations directly, this approach uses iterative and numerical method without calculating eigenvalues. eigenvectors and boundary coefficients. As a result, approximate solutions and upper and lower bounds are obtained. This approach can be applied to stochastic fluid flow model having general Markov chain structure as well as to the superposition of heterogeneous ON-OFF sources it can be extended to Markov process having non-exponential sojourn times.

  • This study is concerned with development of 3-Dimensional simulator of a biped robot that has a prismatic balancing weight or a revolute balancing weight. The dynamic stability equation of a biped robot which have a prismatic balancing weight is conditional linear but a walking robot's stability equation with a revolute balancing weight is nonlinear. To get a stable gait of a biped robot, stabilization equations with ZMP (Zero Moment Point) are modeled as non-homogeneous second order differential equations for each balancing weight type. A trajectory of balancing weight can be directly calculated with the FDM (Finite Difference Method) solution of the linearized differential equation. In this paper, the 3-Dimensional graphic simulator is programmed to get and calculate the desired ZMP and the actual ZMP. Walking of 4 steps was simulated and verified. This balancing system will be applied to a biped humanoid robot, which consist Begs and upper body, at future work.

  • Numerical methods are developed for solving the elastica and buckling load of cantilever column with constant volume, subjected to a compressive end load. The linear, parabolic and sinusoidal tapers with the regular polygon cross-sections are considered, whose material volume and span length are always held constant. The differential equations governing the elastica of buckled column are derived. The Runge-Kutta method is used to integrate the differential equations, and the Regula-Falsi method is used to determine the horizontal deflection at free end and the buckling load, respectively. The numerical methods developed herein for computing the elastica and the buckling loads of the columns are found to be efficient and reliable.
