  • In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the linear combinations of means in the exponential distributions. We develop the matching priors and the reference priors. The matching priors, the reference prior and Jeffreys' prior for the linear combinations of means are developed. It turns out that the reference prior and Jeffreys' prior are not a matching prior. We show that the proposed matching prior matches the target coverage probabilities much more accurately than the reference prior and Jeffreys' prior in a frequentist sense through simulation study, and an example based on real data is given.

  • Objective: The methane mitigating potential of various plant-based polyphenol sources is known, but effects of combinations have rarely been tested. The aim of the present study was to determine whether binary and 3-way combinations of such phenol sources affect ruminal fermentation less, similar or more intensively than separate applications. Methods: The extracts used were from Acacia mearnsii bark (acacia), Vitis vinifera (grape) seed, Camellia sinensis leaves (green tea), Uncaria gambir leaves (gambier), Vaccinium macrocarpon berries (cranberry), Fagopyrum esculentum seed (buckwheat), and Ginkgo biloba leaves (ginkgo). All extracts were tested using the Hohenheim gas test. This was done alone at 5% of dry matter (DM). Acacia was also combined with all other single extracts at 5% of DM each, and with two other phenol sources (all possible combinations) at 2.5%+2.5% of DM. Results: Methane formation was reduced by 7% to 9% by acacia, grape seed and green tea and, in addition, by most extract combinations with acacia. Grape seed and green tea alone and in combination with acacia also reduced methane proportion of total gas to the same degree. The extracts of buckwheat and gingko were poor in phenols and promoted ruminal fermentation. All treatments except green tea alone lowered ammonia concentration by up to 23%, and the binary combinations were more effective as acacia alone. With three extracts, linear effects were found with total gas and methane formation, while with ammonia and other traits linear effects were rare. Conclusion: The study identified methane and ammonia mitigating potential of various phenolic plant extracts and showed a number of additive and some non-linear effects of combinations of extracts. Further studies, especially in live animals, should concentrate on combinations of extracts from grape seed, green tea leaves Land acacia bark and determine the ideal dosages of such combinations for the purpose of methane mitigation.

  • This paper presents real examples of quality statistics for users to easily understand the concept and purpose for obtaining the degree of freedom. Moreover degree of freedom by Satterwaite can be used for linear combinations of unbiased variance. Finally effective degree of freedom by Welch-Satterthwaite is applicable to obtain expanded uncertainty considering type A and type B uncertainty.

  • There are many error sources in GPS signal propagation because the signals do not propagate in vacuum. The GPS observations should be preprocessed before they are used for positioning. The cycle slip and outlier detection algorithms are tested in this study in RINEX level using various linear combinations of the observables. The elbourne-Wubbena (M-W) linear combination has an advantage of long wavelength with low noise, and the geometry-free and ionosphere-free linear combinations are used as well to clean the measurements.

  • We characterize hypergeneralized k-projectors (i.e., $A^k=A^{\dag}$). Also, some representation for the Moore-Penrose inverse of a linear combination of hypergeneralized k-projectors is found and the invertibility for some linear combinations of commuting hypergeneralized k-projectors is considered.

  • Let $A_1$ and $A_2$ be $n{\times}n$ nonzero complex matrices, denote a linear combination of the two matrices by $A=c_1A_1+c_2A_2$, where $c_1$, $c_2$ are nonzero complex numbers. In this paper, we research the problem of the linear combinations in the general case. We give a sufficient and necessary condition for A is an involutive matrix and s+1-potent matrix, respectively, where $A_1$ is a tripotent matrix, with $A_1A_2=A_2A_1$. Then, using the results, we also give the sufficient and necessary conditions for the involutory of the linear combination A, where $A_1$ is a tripotent matrix, anti-idempotent matrix, and involutive matrix, respectively, and $A_2$ is a tripotent matrix, idempotent matrix, and involutive matrix, respectively, with $A_1A_2=A_2A_1$.

  • It is known that human disease and the economic traits of livestock are significantly affected by a gene combination effect rather than a single gene effect. Existing methods to study this gene combination effect have disadvantages such as heavy computing, cost and time; therefore, to overcome those drawbacks, the SNPHarvester was developed to find the main gene combinations. In this paper, we looked for gene combinations using an adjusted linear regression model. This research finds that superior gene combinations which are related to the quality of the Korean beef cattle among sets of SNPs using SNPHarvester. We also identify the superior genotypes using a decision tree that can enhance the various qualities of Korean beef among selected a SNP combination.

  • This paper studies some problems suggested by Stirling numbers, and defines generalized Stirling numbers s(n, k, r), S(n, k, r) and proves that generalized Stirling numbers and certain linear combination of generalized Stirling numbers are strong logarithmic concave functions of k for fixed n and r.
