  • This paper consider the problem of direction of arrival(DOA) estimation in the presence of multipath propagation. The sensor elements are assumed to be linear and uniformly spaced. Numerous authors have advocated the use of a beamforming preprocessor to facilitate application of high resolution direction finding algorithms The benefits cited include reduced computation, improved performance in environments that include spatially colored noise, and enhanced resolution. Performance benefits typically have been demonstrated via specific example. The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of a beamspace version of the MUSIC algorithm applicable to two closely spaced emitters in diverse scenarios. Specifically, the analysis is applicable to uncorrelated far field emitters of any relative power level, confined to a known plane, and observed by an arbitrary array of directional antenna. In this paper, we researched about optimize beam forming to smart antenna system. The covariance matrix obtained using fourth order cumulant function. Simulations illustrate the performance of the techniques.

The antenna is simulated using CST MWS and manufactured using FR-4(h=1.0mm, ${\varepsilon}r=4.4$). The estimated bandwidth, gain and beamwidth are 4%(VSWR$\leq$2), 6.3dBi and about 60o in elevation and 15o in azimuth, respectively. The antenna is fabricated and optimized based on the simulation result and installed on the backside of the sensor circuit and measured. The measured bandwidth, gain and beamwidth are 7%(VSWR$\leq$2), 4.8dBi and about 55o(El)/15o(Az), respectively.

  • In this paper, we theoretically studied on the large antenna array whose element had wider than one wavelength. And we also verified the adaptedness through the experiments. Using grating lobes, we could make antenna have sharp HPBW. Not only HPBW but also SLL could be controlled by giving optimal space for antenna array. In order to verify this method, we designed 4 horn antenna array and measured the radiation patterns at 9 GHz. Each horn antenna has the dimension of 64.3$\times$82.5$\textrm{mm}^2$ and HPBW of 27$^{\circ}$. The space between antennas is longer than one wavelength so that it may have the grating lobes in visible region. As a result of experiments, we could get HPBW of 4.3$^{\circ}$, 3.3$^{\circ}$ and 1.7$^{\circ}$when giving 2.5λ, 2.7λ and 3.0λ of the spacing respectively. We concluded this could be useful making the antenna with narrow HPBW.

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel true time-delay (TTD) feeder for phased array antennas (PAAs) using fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and fibers coated with Cr/Au film. This structure requires less number of FBGs than the previously proposed FBG TTD feeders since one FBG is replaced with a metal film reflector in a strand of optical delay line connected to each antenna element and also provides the flexible wavelength selection since the metal film shows wide reflectance spectrum. A TTD for 10 GHz linear PAAs capable of steering beams in three different directions at 0$^{\circ}$and $\pm$30$^{\circ}$has been built. Experimental results on time delays are in good agreement with those calculated at all the steering angles. A 10 GHz linear array antenna with eight antenna elements red from the proposed TTD has been designed and the far-field radiation pattern or this antenna has been obtained by simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose 2-stage beamformer with linear receiver in wireless backhaul downlink system where macro base station has large antenna array with sub-array structure. Also, to compare the system capacity, we apply 3-stage beamformer with zero-forcing precoder and calculate the achievable sum rate of received small cell base stations. Considering scattering and path-loss property of wireless backhaul channel, we combine precoding technique for spatial multiplexing and beamforming technique to overcome path-loss. Therefore, we design DFT-based fixed beam patterns for the first stage. The simulation results show that considering spatial multiplexing, proposed 2-stage beamformer with linear receiver can increase the achievable sum rate as well as reduce the feedback information.

  • Estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT) is an algorithm that estimates the angle of a signal arriving at an array antenna using the shift invariance property of an array antenna. ESPRIT offers the good trade-off between performance and complexity. However, the ESPRIT algorithm still requires high-complexity operations such as covariance matrix and eigenvalue decomposition, so implementation with a hardware processor is essential to estimate the angle of arrival in real time. In addition, ESPRIT processors should have high performance. The performance is related to the number of antennas, and the number of antennas required for each application are different. Therefore, we proposed an ESPRIT processor that provides 2 to 8 variable antenna configurations to meet the performance and complexity requirements according to the applied field. The proposed ESPRIT processor was designed using the Verilog-HDL and implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA).

  • In this paper, we derive analytical expressions for the exact pairwise error probability (PEP) of a space-time coded system operating over spatially correlated fast (constant over the duration of a symbol) and slow (constant over the length of a code word) fading channels using a moment-generating function-based approach. We discuss two analytical techniques that can be used to evaluate the exact-PEPs (and therefore, approximate the average bit error probability (BEP)) in closed form. These analytical expressions are more realistic than previously published PEP expressions as they fully account for antenna spacing, antenna geometries (uniform linear array, uniform grid array, uniform circular array, etc.) and scattering models (uniform, Gaussian, Laplacian, Von-mises, etc.). Inclusion of spatial information in these expressions provides valuable insights into the physical factors determining the performance of a space-time code. Using these new PEP expressions, we investigate the effect of antenna spacing, antenna geometries and azimuth power distribution parameters (angle of arrival/departure and angular spread) on the performance of a four-state QPSK space-time trellis code proposed by Tarokh et al. for two transmit antennas.

  • Nowadays adaptive technique allows arrays of any geometry to be used with fast direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimators designed for linear arrays. So the interpolation of data from a given antenna array onto the output of a virtual array is needed before the direction finding technique is applied to the outputs of a uniform linear virtual array (ULVA). In this paper some superresoluntion methods are used to estimate DOA by best-fit transformation matrix T under different nonuniformly spaced array.

  • An orthogonal antenna is presented for reader applications of radio frequency identification (RFID) at 433 MHz. The antenna is composed of two $1{\times}2$ sub-arrays orthogonally placed on a ground plane. Two different feeding networks are introduced to control horizontal and vertical radiation current flows for each sub-array, respectively. An inverted-F structure is used as a radiation element with vertical and horizontal currents flowing on the radiator, thereby obtaining two linear polarizations. Antenna gains are 3.71 and 3.43 dBi and isolation between the two input ports is less than 25dB.

  • In this paper, the linear active phased array antenna system operated in Ku DBS band was designed and experimented. The antenna system was composed of sixteen radiating active channels and Wilkinson power combiners with 16-channel inputs, a stabilizing DC bias and phase control board. Electrical beams of the antenna system can be formed by controling the phase-states of 3-bit digital phase shifter inside each active channel by virtue of the phase control board. The amplitude and phase deviations measured between active channels were less than ${\pm}0.8dB$ and ${\pm}15^{\circ}$, respectively, and the noise figure of each active channel was measured less than 1.2 dB in the operating band. The measured performances of the overall antenna system showed the antenna gain of more than 23.07 dBi and the sidelobe level of less than -11.17 dBc, and the bore-sight cross-polarization level of less than -12.75 dBc in the operating band. Also, by phase-controlling active channels, the beam scan patterns at $10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$ were measured, and the losses caused by the corresponding beam scanning were 1.1 dB, 2.5 dB and 3.6 dB from the measurements, respectively.
