The Reliability-based Design Optimization for the Military Communication Equipment considering the Dimension Uncertainty (치수 불확실성이 고려된 군용 통신 장비의 신뢰성 기반 최적설계)

  • The military communication equipment is required the high reliability for operating adequate functions under severe conditions. This reliability is the essential element for the quality of the product, for the uncontrolled factors, such as the clearance, damage of the material, the reduction of stiffness, which are the designer is unable to handle. In this paper, the uncertainty for the dimension was supposed to the probability model for the military communication equipment, and the average of the objective function was minimized for reducing design uncertainty. The reliability-based design optimization which was implemented the limit state function was formulated into the mathematical model, so the reliable optimized structure was implemented than the base-line design.

  • This paper presents an accelerated life test of aviation taxiway lights installed in the airport to help safe navigation of airplanes at night or in bad weather. Recently halogen lamps of taxiway lights are replaced by LED ones and their reliability needs yet to be verified. Thus, effective test conditions are designed reflecting the failure modes and mechanisms from the previous studies on LED, which include the accelerated degradation process. The test is performed under the temperature $70^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ for two types of LED lights, taxiway center line lights(TCLL) and taxiway edge lights (TEDL). The failure time data were analyzed using lognormal distribution and Arrhenius model to find the life-stress relationship, acceleration factor and life characteristics under the normal condition temperature $30^{\circ}C$.

  • Optimal routing of distribution networks can be attained by keeping the line power capacity limit to handle load requirements, acceptable voltage at customer loads, and the reliability indices such as SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, and ASAI limits. This method is composed of optimal loss reduction and optimal reliability cost reduction. The former is solved relating to the conductor resistance of all alternative routes, and the latter is solved relating to the failure rate and duration of each alternative route. The routing considering optimal loss only and both optimal loss and optimal reliability cost are compared in this paper. The results showed that reliability cost should be considered as well as loss reduction to achieve the optimal routing in the distribution networks.

Turbo Positioning Using Link Reliability in Wireless Networks

  • In wireless positioning systems using range measurements non-line-of-sight (NLOS) links cause estimation errors. Several studies have attempted to improve the positioning performance by mitigating these NLOS errors. These studies, however, have focused on the performance of a dataset consisting of three or more links. Therefore, measurement errors induced by links are averaged, and a reliable link is not fully utilized in the dataset. This paper proposes a Link Reliability based on Range Measurement (LRRM) scheme, which specifies the relative reliability of each link using residuals. The link reliability becomes the input to a Link Residual Weighting (LRW) scheme, which is also proposed as a weighted positioning scheme. Moreover, LRRM and LRW constitute new turbo positioning, where the estimation errors are reduced considerably by iterative updates.

  • This paper is concerned with the reliability centered maintenance (RCM) of the Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) vehicle system. Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) has developed the AGT vehicle system from 1999 to 2004. The provisions for a specific maintenance system including RAMS (reliability, availability, maintainability & safety) of AGT vehicle system is necessary for maintaining good operation conditions. RCM is a process used to determine what must be done to ensure that any system continues to do whatever its users want it to do in its present operating conditions. Therefore, we introduce RCM in details and describe how RCM should be applied to AGT vehicle system on Gyeong-San test line. Analyses to approach RCM to AGT vehicle system are demonstrated in the seven steps that contain each main task and detailed operating conditions.

  • For the evaluation in the safety of outdoor insulator, there are various methods such as: visual observation; voltage measurement; use of ultrasonic wave due to partial discharge; electric field measurement; use of infrared/ultraviolet sensor-type camera. However, many problems have been issued regrading the reliability of the evaluation test and safety of testing operation. Accordingly, the present study has investigated and analyzed the characteristics and mechanisms of the insulator deterioration, in order to obtain an optimal method for detecting poor insulator so that the reliability of power facilities can be enhanced. Besides, based on theoretical analysis of domestic and international detection methods for poor insulator, the reliability has been compared and evaluated quantitatively. As a result, it was shown that the corona camera would be the best choice for domestic workplace application in detecting poor insulator for enhancing the reliability of power transmission line.

  • This paper suggests the power system reliability evaluation fur transmission lines planning in composite power systems. In recent the importance and necessity of some studies on reliability evaluation of grid comes from the recent black-out accidents occurred in the world. Since probabilistic criterion can reflect recognize the probabilistic nature of system components, the application of probabilistic criterion has received a lot of attention. This paper introduces features and operation modes of the Transmission Reliability Evaluation fur Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 6.2, a program made in EPRI, for assessing reliability indices of composite power system. The characteristics of the TRELSS program are illustrated by the case studies using the KEPCO system.

Given conditions include both environmental condition and operating condition. Environmental condition means common natural environment such as temperature, humidity, vibration, and working condition means artificial environment such as voltage, current load, install place, hours of use, which occurs during using the product. In the field of railway vehicles, although components of railway vehicles with reliability are the trend of mandatory as persisting period of railway vehicles is extended, using components of railway vehicles is insufficient for the practical reliability assessment. but the meaning of the first railway operating agnecy to acquire the parts in the field, the data suggest the reliability of products if you can and can show the reliability of modular units and modular units can provide the reliability of if you can present reliability of the entire system is thought to be here. In this study, lifespan of micro-switch for master controller is analyzed and prediction is performed based on its field data considering the special circumstances of railway vehicles operating agency, such as a large number of trains operates on the same line.
