Seismic and collapse analysis of a UHV transmission tower-line system under cross-fault ground motions

  • An ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission system has the advantages of low circuitry loss, high bulk capacity and long-distance transmission capabilities over conventional transmission systems, but it is easier for this system to cross fault rupture zones and become damaged during earthquakes. This paper experimentally and numerically investigates the seismic responses and collapse failure of a UHV transmission tower-line system crossing a fault. A 1:25 reduced-scale model is constructed and tested by using shaking tables to evaluate the influence of the forward-directivity and fling-step effects on the responses of suspension-type towers. Furthermore, the collapse failure tests of the system under specific cross-fault scenarios are carried out. The corresponding finite element (FE) model is established in ABAQUS software and verified based on the Tian-Ma-Qu material model. The results reveal that the seismic responses of the transmission system under the cross-fault scenario are larger than those under the near-fault scenario, and the permanent ground displacements in the fling-step ground motions tend to magnify the seismic responses of the fault-crossing transmission system. The critical collapse peak ground acceleration (PGA), failure mode and weak position determined by the model experiment and numerical simulation are in relatively good agreement. The sequential failure of the members in Segments 4 and 5 leads to the collapse of the entire model, whereas other segments basically remain in the intact state.

TCSC가 적용된 실계통 시스템에서의 TRV와 MOV의 영향에 대한 분석 (Analysis on the Effects of TRV and MOV in Real System with TCSC)

  • 전력 시스템에서 직렬 보상기의 적용은 회로 차단기 과도 재기 전압 (Transient Recovery Voltage : TRV) 문제와 같은 다른 장치에 영향을 미친다. 본 논문에서는 TCSC (Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor)가 있는 경우와 없는 경우의 선로 차단기에 대한 TRV 효과를 시뮬레이션을 통해 분석하고, TCSC 설치로 인한 TRV 증가를 극복하는 효과적인 방법을 제안한다. 또한 금속 산화물 바리스터 (Metal Oxide Varistor : MOV)에 대한 제안된 보호의 영향에 대해서도 설명한다. 시뮬레이션 모델은 국내의 345 kV 송전선로를 사용하였다. 전력 시스템은 PSCAD (Power Systems Computer Aided Design) / EMTDC (Electro Magnetic Transient Direct Current)를 사용하여 모델링하였다. TRV는 송전선로 및 차단기 단자에서 단락 고장을 구현하여 분석하였고, MOV의 에너지는 보호 동작 알고리즘을 적용하여 해석하였다. 제안된 보호 방안을 적용하는 경우 TRV는 표준을 만족시키지만, 지연 시간이 증가함에 따라 MOV 에너지 용량의 증가하여야 한다. 이 결과를 적용하여 실제 전력 시스템에서 예상되는 전송 선로 고장 상태로 인한 TRV 문제를 해결할 수 있다.

  • Since a squirrel cage induction motor by NEMA Design types is designed to withstand full-voltage starting, direct starting method can be the most economical one. Starting a squirrel cage motor from standstill by connecting it directly across the line may allow inush currents of approximately 500-600% of rated current at lagging power factor of 35-50%. For many of the large motors, the starting inrush current may be great enough to cause voltage dips, which may adversely affect the building's lighting system. Electric utilities also have restrictions on starting currents, so that voltage fluctuations can be held to prescribed limits. Therefore the need for choosing the most appropriate method of motor starting is quite essential. In this paper, we proposed a plan for the selection of the most appropriate motor starting method, first by way of numeric simulation using manufacturer's data and second by way of actual experience. So far, more often than not, the selection of motor starting method has been accomplished only as regards to the capacity of the motor and the frequency of starting and stopping. But nowadays such high-tech apparatus as soft starters are being developed, and we are on the position to give more attention to clarify the way of selection of the motor starting method.

Test Platform Development of Vessel's Power Management System Using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation Technique

  • A PMS (Power Management System) controls vessel's power systems to improve the system efficiency and to protect a blackout condition. The PMS should be developed with considering the type and the capacity of the vessel's power system. It is necessary to test the PMS functions developed for vessel's safe operations under various sailing situations. Therefore, the function tests in cooperation with practical power systems are required in the PMS development. In this paper, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator is developed for the purposes of the PMS function tests. The HIL simulator can be more cost-effective, more time-saved, easier to reproduce, and safer beyond the normal operating range than conventional off-line simulators, especially at early stages in development processes or during fault tests. Vessel's power system model is developed by using a MATLAB/SIMULINK software and by communicating between an OPAL-RT's OP5600 simulator. The PMS uses a Modbus communication protocol implemented using LabVIEW software. Representative tests of the PMS functions are performed to verify the validity of the proposed HIL-based test platform.

Efficient Mixed Topology Configuration Algorithm for Optical Carrier Ethernet

  • Carrier Ethernet, which extend The algorithm based on constructing the mixed topology and performing link stretching, MT/s, has been proposed for designing cost-efficient Carrier Ethernet in optical network with multi-line-rate. However, the MT/s algorithm has high blocking ratio because the wavelength capacity is fully allocated without considering the load balance of network. In this paper, we propose an efficient mixed topology configuration (EMTC) algorithm by modifying MT/s algorithm. In order to reduce blocking ratio, we adapt a threshold for each link to restrict the link utilization so that traffic load can be distributed over whole network. We also apply the EMTC algorithm into optical hybrid switched network to evaluate the availability of our algorithm for different applications. The performance of the EMTC algorithm is compared with that of MT/s algorithm through OPNET simulation. The simulation results show that our algorithm achieve lower blocking ratio than the MT/s algorithm. Moreover, in hybrid switched network, our algorithm performs better than MT/s algorithm in terms of packet loss ratio and end-to-end delay.

  • 본 논문은 배전선에 설치하는 내뢰설비인 가공지선과 피뢰기의 특성과 생략 방안에 대하여 언급하였다. 특히, 피뢰기의 중간 상을 생략하는 방안에 대하여 EMTP 시뮬레이션을 실시하여 생략시 나타날 수 있는 문제점과 생략 방안에 대해 기술하였으며, 가공지선은 지정된 경우에는 생략이 가능하고 피뢰기는 중간 상을 생략시 건전상의 피뢰기 용량을 재검토해야 할 것으로 생각된다.

  • This paper performs a comparison analysis of two types of HVDC system in Jeju power system. A traditional HVDC transmission system had been composed of line commutated converter based on thyristors and the development of semiconductors enables to apply voltage source converter using IGBTs. The detailed parameters of Jeju power system were considered to make a similar condition with real system in real time digital simulator. Two types of HVDC transmission system were modeled and simulated to compare their characteristics in Jeju power system. The simulation results demonstrate that the VSC-HVDC system has more stable performance due to the fast response speed than LCC-HVDC when the transmission capacity was fluctuated.

  • Recently, Increase of energy consumption is continued accordingly because economy is constant growth. so we need long term of energy supply stability and develop new energy source. The effort of environmental improvement is necessary and our country has to educe conservatory gas in these situation, our energy policy is summarized that minimizes energy consumption and uses kinds of energy source. This paper studied some effort of stability that distributed generation put in electric system through line fault, sudden load change. And then this paper calculated penetrated level of distributed generation in system transient stability.

  • Damage and upset of control and communication equipment due to transient overvoltages which occur due primarily to internal switching surge and external lightning surge are an important problems in electromagnetic compatibility(EMC). In this paper, we analyzed operation characteristic of metal oxide varistor widely used low voltage AC line using the electromagnetic transients program(EMTP) and compare it with experimental results and also, we modeled combination generator producing $1.2/50{\mu}s$ open circuit voltage and $8/20{\mu}s$ short circuit current as a source which is critical in calculating operation characteristic. Simulation results showed that most of Transient energy consumes at MOV located in service entrance side than load side, and it showed similar to experimental results. Therefore, entrance side MOV should be selected more energy capacity than that of load side MOV.

효율적 Cyclinc Extension을 갖는 Zipperqkdtlr의 VDSL 모뎀 (A Zipper-based VDSL Modem with an Efficient Cyclic Extension)

  • In this paper we propose an efficient implementation technique for cyclic extension in VDSL(Very High bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) systems using Zipper duplexing and analyze its performances under typical telephone channel environments. In Zipper-based VDSL systems each DTM(discrete-multitone) block is appended by both cyclic prefix(CP) and cyclic suffix(CS). The CP is inserte to prevent both intersymbol interference (ISI) and iterchannel interference (ICI) while the CS is appended to ensure orthogonality between the upstream and downstream carriers thus preventing near-end crosstalk (NEXT). However in order to implement the CP in the transmitter side of the VDSL system an additional hardware is required to append the latter part of each DMT symbol to the beginning of the DMT symbol. In this paper we propose a VDSL system with Zipper duplexing using only CS to reduce hardware complexity (memory and processing delay) required for implementation of CP. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed approach has the same capacity under typical channel environments as the previous Zipper-based VDSL system using both CP and CS. even with a significantly lower hardware complexity.
