  • A matched asymptotic analysis is conducted for a compressible rotating flow in a cylindrical container when a mechanical and/or a thermal disturbance is imposed on the wall. The system Ekman number is assumed to be very small. The conditions for the Taylor-Proudman column in the interior, which were also given in the companion paper Park & Hyun, 2002) by means of the energy balancing analysis, have been re-derived. The concept of the variable, the energy content $e[{\equiv}T+2 {\alpha}^2 {\gamma}{\nu}]$, is reformulated, and its effectiveness in characterizing the energy transport mechanism is delineated. It is seen that, under the condition of the Taylor-Proudman column, numerous admissible theoretical solutions for interior flow exist with an associated wail boundary condition. Some canonical examples are illustrated with comprehensive physical descriptions. The differential heating problem on the top and bottom endwall disks is revisited by using the concept of the energy content. The results are shown to be in line with the previous findings.

  • The phenomena of oil whip in steam turbine takes place for the un-balancing force between rotor shaft and bearing oil film. The several parameters that affect onset of oil whip have been well known. However, the major parameter of oil whip is shaft mis-alinement. A oil whip causes the high vibration and the shutdown of rotor system. We mostly stop the steam turbine to adjust a shaft re-alinement concerning oil whip. In this case, It needs many costs for maintenance and long shutdown times. In this study, we study and observe the oil whip of the 300MW steam turbine in many years and we conduct the field test for another steam turbine for reducing vibration from oil whip. The results of this study are that a oil whip takes place with a particular rotating speed or a particular turbine output and the oil temperature change is a very effective method for on-line oil whip treatment.

  • In this paper a modular high performance MV-to-LV rectifier based on a cascaded H-bridge rectifier is presented. The proposed rectifier can directly connect to the medium voltage levels and provide a low-voltage and highly-stable DC interface with the consumer applications. The input stage eliminates the necessity for heavy and bulky step-down transformers. It corrects the input power factor and maintains the voltage balance among the individual DC buses. The second stage includes the high frequency parallel-output DC/DC converters which prepares the galvanic isolation, regulates the output voltage, and attenuates the low frequency voltage ripple ($2f_{line}$) generated by the first stage. The parallel-output converters can work in interleaving mode and the active load-current sharing technique is utilized to balance the load power among them. The detailed analysis for modeling and control of the proposed structure is presented. The validity and performance of the proposed topology is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • A novel hybrid carrier-based pulse width modulation (CBPWM) scheme that combines unipolar and dipolar modulations is proposed for single-phase three-level rectifiers, which are widely applied in railway traction drive systems. The proposed CBPWM method can satisfy the volt-second balancing principle in the complete modulation index region through overmodulation compensation. The modulation scheme features two modulation modes: unipolar and dipolar. The operation range limits of these modulation modes can be modified by changing the separation coefficient. In comparison with the traditional unipolar CBPWM, the proposed hybrid CBPWM scheme can provide advantageous features, such as lower high-order harmonic distortion of the line current and better utilization of switching frequency. The separation coefficient value is optimized to achieve the maximum utilization of these advantages. The experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid CBPWM scheme.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to review the studies on job rotation with various points of view and to classify the studies considering the approach methods. Background: Various work interventions were carried in order to prevent the work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs) and job rotation was considered as one of the simple and effective methods. Method: Previous studies were systematically collected with the combination of keywords such as job, task, rotation, allocation, line balancing, etc. Collected studies were classified into three categories: field study, laboratory study and optimization approach study. Results: Field studies showed that most studies focused on the evaluation of the factors causing the musculoskeletal disorder. Moreover, the effect of job rotation could be hard to identify because it required a long-period close observation. Laboratory studies covered only simple aspects of tasks or movements. Optimization approach studies showed the systematic approach to establish the job rotation scheme though many limitation and assumptions were adopted. Conclusion: This study collected and classified the previous studies on job rotation and presented the different approaches across various research areas. Application: The results of this study could help the practitioner and ergonomist how to establish the job rotation scheme.

  • The applications of Distributed Generation (DG) in a smart distribution grid environment are widely employed especially for power balancing and supporting demand responses. Using these applications can have both positive and negative impacts on the distribution system. The sizing and location of their installations are the issues that should be taken into consideration to gain the maximum benefit from them when considering the economic aspects. This paper presents an application of the Bat Algorithm (BA) for the optimal sizing and siting of DG in a smart distribution power system in order to maximize the Benefit to Cost Ratio (BCR), subjected to system constraints including real and reactive power generation, line and transformer loading, voltage profile, energy losses, fault level as well as DG operating limits. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and the impact of considering economic issues on DG placement, a simplify 9-bus radial distribution system of the Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA) is selected for the computer simulation to explore the benefit of the optimal DG placement and the performance of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper. the design and implementationof the on-line registration system for the school affairs is described. The environments for the system configurations include a PC server under Linux Iperating System. Apache Web-server, and MySQL as database engine. In addition, PHP, which becomes a popular Internet server-based script language lately, is used to implement a real-time database. In order to avoid overload problems during short-term registration period, which deconstraces the typical surge of traffics, the proposed system is designed to minimize the unnecessary interfacing tasks. On administrator side task, the sytem is designed to have environments by separating the dechcated server that restricts the scope of specific database thasks. In doing so, it become possibal to build an optical system by distributing, balancing the transaction load, maintainimg the security and efficient administrative tasks.

  • This paper introduces a simulation model regarding the process analysis of a digital doorlock mixed assembly process. The objective of the simulation model is to evaluate the performance of various design aspects of process alternatives. To develop the simulation model, a time study is performed for each process. Next, by using ARENA, a simulation model is conducted based on the process analysis and the line balancing methodology. We found out several problems for mixed assembly process, and then suggest several alternatives to improve the system.

  • Recently, IoT researches using sensor data based on embedded networks in various fields including healthcare and sports have been continuously attempted. This study analyzes golf ball mobility to support IoT application in golf sports field. Generally, since the difference in density occurs due to the condition of the inner material and the abnormal state at the time of the outer skin joining during the manufacturing of the golf ball, the weight of each subset is equal for any two points with the same radius in the sphere cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, the deflected weight of the sphere has the undesirable effect of hitting the ball in a direction in which the weight of the ball is heavy. In this study, it is assumed that there is a unique center of gravity of the ball, and even if the golf ball cannot be manufactured perfectly, it wants to establish the basic principle to accurately recognize or mark the putting line based on the center of gravity. In addition, it is evaluated how the mobility of the golf ball with a deviation from the center of gravity of the golf ball affects the progress path (or movement direction) and the moving distance (or carry distance) after the golfer hits. The basic model of the mobility of the golf ball can help the golfer exercise model and the correlation analysis. The basic model of the mobility of the golf ball can help the golfer exercise model and the correlation analysis.
