The main purposes of the nutrition and clinical surveys were to provide baseline information on the nutritional status of pre-school children in rural health demonstration project areas of the Korea Health Development Institute (KHDI) for nutrition guidance services for the MCH target group. The survey covered a total of 222 pre-school children and 135 mothers in Okgu Gun, Cholla Pukto Province from August 10 to August 17, 1979. The survey results are summarized as follows: 1) Family Environment Seventy percent of the households had more than three children, and the mean family sire was 6. Sixty-nine percent of the mothers and 47% of the fathers of the surveyed households were educated at or below the primary school level. The majority, 70% of the mothers, were aged between 20 years and 35 years. 2) Anthropometric Measurements and Hemoglobin Value 4.5% of the children were lower than 80% weight for age of the Korean standard, and 5.4% were lower than 85% arm circumference for age of the Jelliffe's standard resectively, and those were suffering from protein-energy malnutrition. Angular stomatitis were observed on 66.2% of the subjects. Mean hemoglobin value was 11.1g/100m1, and 44.2% of the subjects were categorized as anaemia. 3) Food and Nutrient Intake of animal foods was very low, ranging from 2.9 to 17%. Consumption of eggs was less than 2% of total food intake, and intake of legumes was also very scanty, between 0.8 to 3.7%. These data present evidence of very poor protein intake, quality as well as quantity. Energy intake of children was 60.0 to 64.4% of the recommended allowance, and mean protein intake only met 47.4% of the recommendation. Low intake of vitamins except thiamin were also found. 4) Mother's Nutrition Knowledge Eighty-five percent of the mothers were entirely ignorant regarding the 'five basic food group' which is most important fact on food and nutrition guidance. Mean knowledge score from 14 basic questions about food and nutrition was as low as 5.1. There was a significant positive correlation between mother's educational level and nutrition knowledge score. 5) Family Planning Variable There were significant correlation among maternal, family planning variables, and some of the nutritional and physical measurements. The study revealed that the mother's educational level and nutrition knowledge score are more crucial factors than the family planning variables on effecting food intakes on children. Recommendation : According to the results of the surveys, there were high incident rates of nutritional anaemia and angular stomatitis among pre-school children, and most of rural women had very limited knowledge about food and nutrition. As a main part of the health education activities, the community health workers should provide nutrition education to the village mothers to improve the nutrional status of young children in rural areas. Nutrional promotion at the primary health care level should be mainly based on appropriate nutrition education.

The need for rapid on-site monitoring of hydroponic macronutrients has led to the use of ion-selective electrodes, because of their advantages over spectrophotometric methods, including simple methodology, direct measurement of analyte, sensitivity over a wide concentration range, and low cost. Stability and repeatability of response can be a concern when using multiple ion-selective electrodes to measure concentrations in a series of samples because accuracy might be limited by drifts in electrode potential. A computer-based measurement system could improve accuracy and precision because of both consistent control of sample preparation and easy calibration of sensors. Our goal was to investigate the applicability of a cobalt-based electrode used in conjunction with a laboratory-made automated test stand for quantitative determination of ${PO_4}^-$ in hydroponic solution. Six hydroponic solutions were prepared by diluting highly concentrated paprika hydroponicsolution to provide a concentration range of 1 to 300 ppm $PO_4$-P. A calibration curve relating electrode response to phosphate in paprika hydroponic solution titrated to pH 4 with 0.025M KHP was developed based on the Nikolskii-Eisenman equation with a coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of 0.94. The laboratory-made test stand consisting of three cobalt-based electrodes measured phosphate concentrations similar to those obtained with standard laboratory methods (a regression slope of 0.98 with $R^2$ = 0.80). However, the y intercept was relatively high, 30 ppm, probably due to the relatively large amount of variation present among multiple measurements of the same sample. Further studies on the high variation in EMFs obtained with cobalt electrodes during replicate measurements were required for P estimations comparable to those obtained with standard laboratory instruments.
In parallel cluster computing systems, the efficiency of communication between computing nodes is one of important factors that decide overall system performance. Accordingly, many researchers have studied on high-performance inter-node communication. The recently launched multi-core processor, however. increases the importance of intra-node communication as well because the more the number of cores in a node, the more the number of parallel processes running in the same node. Though there have been studies on intra-node communications, these have limited considerations on the state-of-the-art systems. In this paper, we propose a Linux kernel module that minimizes the number of data copy by exploiting the memory mapping mechanism for high-performance intra-node communication. The proposed kernel module supports the Linux kernel version 2.6. The performance measurements over a multi-core system present that the proposed kernel module can achieve lower latency up to 62% and higher throughput up to 144% than an existing kernel module approach. In addition, the measurements reveal that the performance of intra-node communication can vary significantly based on whether the cores that run the communication processes are belong to the same processor package (i.e., sharing the L2 cache).

Objective: The purposes of this study were to establish cephalometric norms of Mongolian adults, which have not previously been reported in orthodontic journals, and to compare them with cephalometric norms of Korean adults. Methods: Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 74 Mongolian adults (35 men, 39 women) and 95 Korean adults (52 men, 43 women) with normal occlusions and well-balanced lateral profiles were obtained. The subjects were chosen by orthodontists of the same ethnic background. Forty craniofacial variables were measured, and groups were compared by analysis of covariance. Results: The cephalometric norms for male and female Mongolian and Korean adults with normal occlusions and well-balanced lateral profiles were established. Sexual dimorphism was found in linear skeletal measurements and vertical skeletal relationships. Compared with Korean adults, Mongolian adults had shorter anterior facial height, more prominent chins, and more upright upper incisors. There were few differences in soft tissue measurements. The differences were statistically significant, but their clinical importance may be limited. Conclusions: Cephalometric differences can be considered, but little difference may exist in the orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning of Mongolian and Korean adults.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to provide an actual guideline in determining the shape, diameter, and position of the implant in immediate implantation by the measurement of the thickness of facial and palatal plate, the thickness of cortical bone on the facial and palatal plate, the diameter of the root, and the distance between the roots in the cadavers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The horizontal sections of 20 maxillae were measured and analyzed to obtain the average values. Resin blocks were produced and cut serially at 1 mm intervals from the cervical line to the root apex. Images of each section were obtained and the following measurements were performed: The thickness of the facial and palatal residual bone at each root surface, the thickness of the facial and palatal cortical bone at the interdental region, the diameter of all roots of each section on the faciopalatal and mesiodistal diameter, and the interroot distance. Three specimens with measurements close to the average values were chosen and 3-dimensional images were reconstructed. RESULTS. The thickness of the facial and palatal cortical bone at the interdental region in the maxilla, the buccal cortical bone was thicker in the posterior region compared to the anterior region. The interroot distance of the alveolar bone thickness between the roots increased from anterior to posterior region and from coronal to apical in the maxilla. CONCLUSION. In this study, the limited results of the morphometric analysis of the alveolar ridge using the sections of maxilla in the cadavers may offer the useful information when planning and selecting optimal implant for immediate implantation in the maxilla.
Different from the main land of South Korea, Jeju Island has been in difficulties for measuring discharge. Due to high infiltration rate, most of streams in Jeju Island are usually in the dried state except six streams with the steady base flow, and the unique geological characteristics such as steep slope and short traveling distance of runoff have forced rainfall runoff usually to occur during very short period of time like one or two days. While discharge observations in Jeju Island have been conducted only for 16 sites with fixed electromagnetic surface velocimetry, effective analysis and validation of observed discharge data and operation of the monitoring sites still have been limited due to very few professions to maintain such jobs. This research is sponsored by Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs to build water cycle monitoring and management system of Jeju Island. Specifically, the research focuses on optimizing discharge measurement techniques adjusted for Jeju Island, expanding the monitoring sites, and validating the existing discharge data. First of all, we attempted to conduct discharge measurements in streams with steady base flow, by utilizing various recent discharge monitoring techniques, such as ADCP, LSPIV, Magnetic Velocimetry, and Electromagnetic Wave Surface Velocimetry. ADCP has been known to be the most accurate in terms of discharge measurement compared with other techniques, thus that the discharge measurement taken by ADCP could be used as a benchmark data for validation of others. However, there are still concerns of using ADCP in flood seasons; thereby LSPIV would be able to be applied for replacing ADCP in such flooded situation in the stream. In addition, sort of practical approaches such as Magnetic Velocimetry, and Electromagnetic Wave Surface Velocimetry would also be validated, which usually measure velocity in the designated parts of stream and assume the measured velocity to be representative for whole cross-section or profile at any specified location. The result of the comparison and analysis will be used for correcting existing discharge measurement by Electromagnetic Wave Surface Velocimetry and finding the most optimized discharge techniques in the future.

Purpose: Myocardial T1 and T2 relaxation times are affected by technical factors such as cardiovascular magnetic resonance platform/vendor. We aimed to validate T1 and T2 mapping sequences using a phantom; establish reference T1, T2, and extracellular volume (ECV) measurements using two sequences at 3T in normal Koreans; and compare the protocols and evaluate the differences from previously reported measurements. Materials and Methods: Eleven healthy subjects underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using 3T MRI equipment (Verio, Siemens, Erlangen, Germany). We did phantom validation before volunteer scanning: T1 mapping with modified look locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) with 5(3)3 and 4(1)3(1)2 sequences, and T2 mapping with gradient echo (GRE) and TrueFISP sequences. We did T1 and T2 mappings on the volunteers with the same sequences. ECV was also calculated with both sequences after gadolinium enhancement. Results: The phantom study showed no significant differences from the gold standard T1 and T2 values in either sequence. Pre-contrast T1 relaxation times of the 4(1)3(1)2 protocol was 1142.27 ± 36.64 ms and of the 5(3)3 was 1266.03 ± 32.86 ms on the volunteer study. T2 relaxation times of GRE were 40.09 ± 2.45 ms and T2 relaxation times of TrueFISP were 38.20 ± 1.64 ms in each. ECV calculation was 24.42% ± 2.41% and 26.11% ± 2.39% in the 4(1)3(1)2 and 5(3)3 protocols, respectively, and showed no differences at any segment or slice between the sequences. We also calculated ECV from the pre-enhancement T1 relaxation time of MOLLI 5(3)3 and the post-enhancement T1 relaxation time of MOLLI 4(1)3(1)2, with no significant differences between the combinations. Conclusion: Using phantom-validated sequences, we reported the normal myocardial T1, T2, and ECV reference values of healthy Koreans at 3T. There were no statistically significant differences between the sequences, although it has limited statistical value due to the small number of subjects studied. ECV showed no significant differences between calculations based on various pre- and post-mapping combinations.

Various studies have been conducted on the structural health monitoring using optical fiber. Optical fibers can be used to measure multiple and distributed strain. Among the optical fiber sensors, FBG sensor has advantages of dynamic response measurement and high precision, but the number of measurement points is limited. Distributed fiber sensors, represented by distributed Brillouin sensors, usually have more than 1000 measurement points, but the low sampling rate makes dynamic measurements impossible. In this study, a hybrid nerve sensor system using only the advantages of the FBG sensor and the distributed Brillouin sensor has been proposed. Laboratory experiments were performed to verify the proposed system, and the accuracy and reproducibility were verified by comparing with commercial sensors. Applying the proposed system, dynamic response ambient measurements are used to evaluate the global state of the structure. When an abnormal condition is detected, the local condition of the structure is evaluated by static response measurement using the distributed measurement system. The proposed system can be used for efficient structural health monitoring.

Numerical flow simulation models in the riverine environments have been widely utilized for analyzing flow dynamics in various degrees in researches and practical applications. However, most of the simulated results have been validated based on the data from indoor experimental models or very limited in-situ measurements. Therefore, it has been required to more accurately validate the performance of the numerical models in terms of the detailed field observations. In particular, it was also hard to validate the performances of the existing numerical models in the real meandered river channels that encompass more sophisticated flow and geometric structures. Recently, advancements of the modern flow measuring instrumentations such as acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) enabled us to efficiently acquire the detailed flow field in the broad range of river channels, thus that it became to be possible to accurately validate any numerical models with the field observations. In this study, based on the detailed flow measurements in a actual meandered river channel using ADCP, we validated FaSTMECH model in iRIC in terms of water surface elevation, which is relatively new but began to get highlighted in the research areas. As the validation site, a meandering channel in River Experiment Center of KICT was chosen, which has 6.5 m of width, 0.38m of flow depth, 1.54 m3/s of flow discharge, 0.61 m/s of mean flow velocity, and 1.2 of sinuosity. As results, whereas the FaSTMECH precisely simulated water surface elevation, simulated velocity field in the bend did not match well with ADCP dataset.

The objective of this study is to propose the measurement system implementation method for the evaluation and measurement of the indoor-impulsive over 170 dB noise source. For the purpose of measuring impulse noise, design and implementation constructed followed subsystems of the testing center, microphone, ear simulator, head and torso simulator and so on. Measurement systems for the accuracy and reliability of impulse noise are implemented when measuring 3 ways of measurements method by the simultaneous measurement system design. For the accuracy and reliability of three mutually indoor-impulse noise measurements were compared, three kinds of measuring methods in accordance with the peak sound pressure level and octave band. Comparing the results of data, the indoor-impulse noise by analyzing a frequency characteristic was validated in difference for the statistical significance. Result are determined by the influence of the reflected wave. Therefore, the flexible size of the interior test site while interior impulse noise measurement system was constructed. Throughout this system can be affected by parameters that are the impulse noise source and the corresponding frequency-characteristic analysis to determine the spectrum of the reflected wave. And, in the near future, indoor impulse noise measurement systems for acquisition and analysis are utilized in useful data.
