  • This paper describes a detailed performance analysis of TCSC using experiment with a scaled model. A 3-phase scaled model of TCSC was built with rating of 2kVA to verify the operation. The variable reactance of TCSC with respect to the firing angle of thyristor switch analyzed theoretically and experimentally. And the limit of TCSC operation was investigated in whole range of the thyristor firing-angle. The experimental results with scaled model were compared with the simulation results for a periodic state space model using MATLAB.

  • This paper presents the effect of boundary conditions in various failure pressure models published for the estimation of failure pressure. Furthermore, this approach is extended to the failure prediction with the aid of a failure probability model. The first order Taylor series expansion of the limit state function is used in order to estimate the probability of failure associated with each corrosion defect in buried pipelines for long exposure period with unit of years. A failure probability model based on the von-Mises failure criterion is adapted. The log-normal and standard normal probability functions for varying random variables are adapted. The effects of random variables such as defect depth, pipe diameter, defect length, fluid pressure, corrosion rate, material yield stress, material ultimate tensile strength and pipe thickness on the failure probability of the buried pipelines are systematically investigated for the corrosion pipeline by using an adapted failure probability model and varying failure pressure model.

  • We present and analyze a class of limited sensing random access algorithms with powerful properties. The algorithms are implementable in wireless mobile environments and their operational properties are simple. Their throughput in the worst case of the limit Poisson user model is 0.4297, while this throughput degrades gracefully in the presence of channel feedback errors.

  • To analysis machanical behavior for RC frame under monotonic & Cyclic load, it is needed to investigate elasto-plastic behavior for steel & concrete. Therefore, in this study, we idealized material model(steel and concrete) to take into account elasto-plastic, limit state, and developed structural analysis program that consider complex non-linearity. We investigated simple beam and portal frame under cyclic & monotonic loading, so we confirmed the propriety.

  • An unsteady-state moisture diffusion through cellulosic fibers in paper was characterized from the moisture sorption experiment and the mathematical modeling. The sorption experiment was conducted by exposing thin dry paper specimens to a constant temperature-humidity environment. Oven dried blotting papers and filter papers were used as test samples and the gains of their weights were constantly monitored and recorded as a function of sorption time. For a mathematical approach, the moisture transport was assumed to be an one-dimensional diffusion in thickness direction through the geometrically symmetric structure of paper. The model was asymptotically simplified with a short-term approximation. It gave us a new insight into the moisture uptake phenomena as a function of square root of sorption time. The fiber-phase moisture diffusivities(FPMD) of paper samples were then determined by correlating the experimental data with the unsteady-state diffusion model obtained. Their values were found to be on the order of magnitude of $10^{-6}-10^{-7}cm^2$/min., which were equivalent to the hypothetical effective diffusion coefficients at the limit of zero porosity. The moisture sorption curve predicted from the model fairly agreed with that obtained from the experiment at some limited initial stages of the moisture uptake process. The FPMD value of paper significantly varied depending upon the current moisture content of paper. The mean FPMD was about 0.7-0.8 times as large as the short-term approximated FPMD.

  • Brown and Proschan(1983) introduced a model for imperfect repair. At each failure of a device, with probability p, it is repaired completely or replaced with a new device(perfect repair), and with probability 1-p, it is returned to the functioning state, but it is only recovered to its condition just prior to failure(imperfect repair or minimal repair). In this paper, we limit the number of consecutive minimal repairs by n. We find some useful properties about $\mu$$_{k}$, the expected time between the k-th and the (k+1)-st repair under he assumption that only minimal repairs are performed. Then, we assign cost to each repair and find the value of n which minimized the long-run average cost for a fixed p under the condition that the life distribution F os the device is DMRL.L.

  • Recent trend changes a criterion for evaluation of burner that environmental problem is raised as global issue. For efficient driving problem, the higher thermal efficiency and the lower oxygen in exhaust gas, burner is evaluated the better. For environmental problem, burner must satisfy $NO_{X}$ limit and CO limit. Consequently, 'good burner' means on whose thermal efficiency is high under the constraint of $NO_{X}$ and CO consistency. To make existing burner satisfy recent criterion, it is highly recommended to develop feedback control scheme whose output is the consistency of $NO_{X}$ and CO. This paper describes development of real time flame diagnosis technique that evaluate and diagnose combustion state such as consistency of components in exhaust gas, stability of flame in quantitative sense. This study focuses on wave length of luminescence from chemical reaction measurement of the luminescence via optical measuring apparatus and derive correlation with consistency of components in exhaust gas by image processing technique.

  • The aim of this study is to describe the physical processes taking place in the solar photosphere. Based on 3D hydrodynamic simulations including a detailed radiation transfer scheme, we investigate thermodynamic structures and radiation fields in solar surface convection. As a starting model, the initial stratification in the outer envelope calculated using the solar calibrations in the context of the standard stellar theory. When the numerical fluid becomes thermally relaxed, the thermodynamic structure of the steady-state turbulent flow was explicitly collected. Particularly, a non-grey radiative transfer incorporating the opacity distribution function was considered in our calculations. In addition, we evaluate the classical approximations that are usually adopted in the onedimensional stellar structure models. We numerically reconfirm that radiation fields are well represented by the asymptotic characteristics of the Eddington approximation (the diffusion limit and the streaming limit). However, this classical approximation underestimates radiation energy in the shallow layers near the surface, which implies that a reliable treatment of the non-grey line opacities is crucial for the accurate description of the photospheric convection phenomenon.
