  • As motor performance enhancement by improving electric design has reached its limit and downsizing issue has risen, the importance of thermal design is increasing. In this study, the flow and temperature distribution were reviewed with the help of CFD analysis and this result was compared with the experimental results. Furthermore, parametric analysis with thermal design structure showed that axial duct width but fan capacity is a critical factor to lower the hot spot temperature in electric motor.

  • In this study, internal fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior were investigated by triple piece spot welded specimen. To estimate fatigue life of the specimen varied with shape and thickness, Crack tip opening angle(CTOA) correlated with stress intensity factor was used as the stiffness parameter. The relation between fatigue life and CTOA can be arranged by the quantitative equation for each specimen by experiment. In addition, the variation of stress distribution was solved and the effect on fatigue crack behavior was examined by finite element method(FEM).

  • To easily separate chitosanoligosaccharides by size exclusion, an coencapsulating technology of substrate and enzyme was developed. The membrane was composed of alginate and a divalent cation such as calcium. Chitosan and chitosanase were enveloped in this membrane and the product released to medium by size exclusion. The capsule was stabilized in a 2% acetic acid solution (pH 5.0) containing 0.145 M CaCO$_3$. The leakage of substrate caused by the agitation speed was controlled by increasing alginate and CaCO$_3$concentrations. The lower limit of the alginate concentration and the agitation speed were 0.5% and 49rpm, respectively. Membrane thickness and capsule diameter were 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 2.5mm, respectively. By TLC analysis, the composition of chitosanoligosaccharides were mainly 3-6 mers. The molecular weight distribution of the released oligosaccharides ranged from 262 to 3624 Da by GPC.

  • There are various shapes such as square, rectangular, L, and T type in the grounding systems of substations. IEEE St-d suggests the formula considering the characteristics of the various grounding systems but the final value can not be taken, and them the analysis of complicated computer program for obtaining the more accurate value is needed. In his paper, by using CDEGS(Current, Distribution, Electromagnetic and Soil Structure Analysis) the estimated functions derives form the modification coefficient for each of various types above mentioned. The mesh voltage expected can be obtained without the conventional expensive program using compensating methods that multiply IEEE formula by the estimated function.

  • Zinc-Borosilicate is used as a side insulator wall to make high breakdown voltage with one Field Limiting Ring in a power p-n junction device in simulation. It is known that surface charge density can be yield at the interface of Zinc-Borosilicate glass / silicon system. When the glass is used as a side insulator wall, surface charge varied potential distribution and breakdown voltage is improved 1090 V under the same structure. The breakdown voltage under varying the surface charge density has a limit value. When the epitaxial thickness is varied, the position of FLR doesn't influence to the breakdown characteristic not only under non punch-through structure but also under punch-through structure. • Process sequence design in sheet metal forming process by the finite element method is investigated. The forming of sheet metal into a washing machine container is used to demonstrate the design of an improved process sequence which has fewer operations. The design procedure makes extensive use of the finite element method which has simulation capabilities of elastic-plastic modeling. A one-stage process to make an initial blank to the final product is simulated to obtain information on metal flow requirements. Loading simulation for a conventional method is also performed to evaluate the design criteria which are uniform thickness distribution around the finished part and maximum punch load within limit of available press capacity. The newly designed sequence has two forming operations and can achieve net-shape manufacturing, while the conventional process sequence has three forming operations. This specific case conventional process sequence has three forming operations. This specific case can be considered for application of the method and for development of the sequence design methodology in general.

  • One of the main objective of manufacturing industries is to assess the capability performance of different processes. In this paper, we use the lifetime performance index $C_L$ as a criterion to measure larger-the-better type quality characteristic for evaluating the product performance. The lifetimes of products are assumed to follow a general class of inverted exponentiated distributions. We use maximum likelihood estimator to estimate the lifetime performance index under the assumption that data are progressive type I interval censored. We also obtain asymptotic distribution of this estimator. Based on this estimator, a new hypothesis testing procedure is developed with respect to a given lower specification limit. Finally, two numerical examples are discussed in support of the proposed testing procedure.

  • In this work the stationary bootstrap of Politis and Romano [27] is applied to the empirical distribution function of stationary and associated random variables. A weak convergence theorem for the stationary bootstrap empirical processes of associated sequences is established with its limiting to a Gaussian process almost surely, conditionally on the stationary observations. The weak convergence result is proved by means of a random central limit theorem on geometrically distributed random block size of the stationary bootstrap procedure. As its statistical applications, stationary bootstrap quantiles and stationary bootstrap mean residual life process are discussed. Our results extend the existing ones of Peligrad [25] who dealt with the weak convergence of non-random blockwise empirical processes of associated sequences as well as of Shao and Yu [35] who obtained the weak convergence of the mean residual life process in reliability theory as an application of the association.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate quartz concentrations in airborne respirable dust and particle size-related quartz concentrations. Methods: Respirable dust samples were collected using a 10 mm Dorr-Oliver nylon cyclone equipped with a 37 mm, $5{\mu}m$ pore size PVC filter. Dust samples were collected with a Marple's personal cascade impactor from stone grinding operations in five stone-related business located in the Gyeongsangbuk-do area. Results: The geometric mean of quartz concentration in the respirable dust was $0.170mg/m^3$, and the rate of exceeding the Korean Occupational Exposure Limit(KOEL) was 93.3%. The quartz concentration by particle size shows that it was the highest($0.115mg/m^3$) in stage 5($3.50-6.00{\mu}m$), which corresponds with the size of respirable particle. The smaller the particle sizes were, the higher quartz the content became. The mass fractions of inhalable, thoracic, and respirable dust were 72.1%, 36.0%, and 14.4%. Conclusions: The rate of the quartz concentration in respirable dust from stone grinding operations exceeding the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Threshold Limit Values was 100%, which means proper work environmental management is required through regular working environmental measurements. Given that the stone grinding operations had a higher small size dust concentrations, there is a need to reduce respirable dust, such as through wet operation and local exhaust ventilation.

  • LNGC suffers a great heat inflow during navigation and this heat inflow inevitably boils off the LNG. The boiled off gas(BOG) is normally consumed as a fuel for ship's engine. The boiled off LNG means a loss of cargo during transportation from the viewpoint of shipper. Therefore, a contract between shipper and ship operator is made on the limit of boiled off rate(BOR) under 0.15 %/day based on laden voyage. This contract on BOR limit requires that ship's officer has a correct knowledge on BOR for his ship. But, in most cases ship is operated based on only officer's experiences. In this study, author presented a simple model to predict the boiled off gas(BOG) during navigation based on the existing precision heat exchange design technology about the heat distribution on the hull and heat inflow from outside through the hull. The BOG is calculated for ballast and laden voyage based on the actual weather conditions and verified by comparing with the measured BOG for the study ship. The study ship is a membrane type LNGC which is now servicing in Middle east route. Thus, the BOG prediction method which is presented in this study is expected to be used for an useful tool to manage the BOG in now servicing LNGC.
