The transient dynamics of three-trophic populations (prey, predator, and super predator) using ratio-dependent models responding to environmental impacts is analyzed. Environmental factors were divided into two parts: periodic factor (e.g., temperature) and general noise. Periodic factor was addressed as a frequency and bias, while general noise was expressed as a Gaussian distribution. Temperature bias ${\varepsilon}$, temperature frequency ${\Omega}$, and Gaussian noise amplitude ${\`{O}}$ accordingly revealed diverse status of population dynamics in three-trophic food chain, including extinction of species. The model showed stable limit cycles and strange attractors in the long-time behavior depending upon various values of the parameters. The dynamic behavior of the system appeared to be sensitive to changes in environmental input. The parameters of environmental input play an important role in determining extinction time of super predator and predator populations.
This study aimed to develop and validate highly sensitive determination method of a prostaglandin ($PGE_1$, OP 1206) in human plasma by LC-MS/MS using column switching. Plasma stored at $-30^{\circ}C$ and treated with methanol effectively inhibited interferences synthesized post-sampling. Samples were added with internal standard and were separated by reversed-phase HPLC with a cycle time of 30min. The method was selective for OP 1206 and the regression models, based on internal standard, were linear across the concentration range 0.5-50 pg/mL with the limit of quantification of 0.5 pg/mL (limit of quantitation, LOQ) for OP 1206. The calibration curve of OP 1206 standards spiked in five individual plasma samples was linear ($r^2=0.9999$). Accuracy and precision at the concentrations of 0.5, 1.5, 5.0 and 40 pg/mL, and at the lower LOQ of 0.5 pg/mL were excellent at 20%. OP120 < 6 was stable in plasma samples for at least 24 hours at room temperature, 24 hours frozen at $-70^{\circ}C$, 24 hours in an auto sampler at $6^{\circ}C$, and for two freeze/unfreezing cycles. The validated determination method successfully quantified the concentrations of OP 1206 in plasma samples from simulated administrating a single $5{\mu}g$ OP 1206 formulation. Thus, this novel LC-MS/MS technique for drug separation, detection and quantitation is expected to become the standard highly-sensitive detection method in bioanalysis and to be applied to many low dose pharmaceutical products.
It has been very important in various industry fields to improve the fatigue strength characteristics of bearings such as bearing life, fatigue limit, etc., because such poor properties could result in shortening the machinery life as well as in decreasing the accuracy. However, no successful heat treatment criterion seems to be available at present. In this study, the effect of the $170^{\circ}C\times120min$ tempering cycles repeated after $380^{\circ}C\times80min$ oil quenching for $800^{\circ}C$ spheroidizing-annealed bearing steel (STB2) as base metal on the $120^{\circ}C$ high temperature rotary bending fatigue strength characteristics were investigated, including the effects on hardness, Charpy impact value and micro-structure, in order to seek for the best heat treatment condition finally. The important results obtained are as follows : 1) The optimal cycle of tempering so that the fatigue strength .sigma. could become the highest was the 4th cycle. And it is confirmed that this $\sigma_{F}$ is about 6 times more increased than that of base metal, and about 1.3 times more increased than the case of the 1 cycle tempered. 2) As a result of the investigation for the effects of tempering cycles on hardness, the hardness at the tempering number of 2 thru 5 cyles was not decreased severely ; only about 10% decrease from those of the quenched and 1 cycle tempered case. Such hardness is equivalent to $H_{R}$/C61-62 with no bad effect on anti-abrasion of bearing steel. 3) In the case of 2 thru 5 cycle tempering as well as 1 cycle tempering, the impact value was not so improved comparing with the case of quenching, but an increase of 5 to 10% could be expected at least. 4) It was experimentally confirmed that the control of the mechanical properties improvement such as fatigue strength and fatigue life for bearing steels could be possible by the number of tempering cycles.

In this study an analysis on flight characteristics and flight control methods for a wing in ground effect vehicle is made. In order to closely view its nonlinearity a few limit cycles are examined and related to the characteristics of the linearized systems. Several flight control methods are compared for the cruise mode with initial height error and command tracking mode of ascending, cruise, and descending. In comparison performance and the implementation aspects are examined. For the possible control inputs, combinations of elevator, thrust, and flap are considered and LQR-based output command tracking scheme is applied in the control system design.
This paper describes the robust controller design methods applied to the problem of an automatic system for tow-vehicle/trailer combinations. This study followed an inverse Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR) approach which combines pole assignment methods with conventional LOR methods. It overcomes two concerns associated with these separate methods. It overcomes the robustness problems associated with pole placement methods and trial and error required in the application of the LQR problem. Moreover, a Kalman filter is used as the observer, but is modified by using the loop transfer recovery (LTR) technique with modified transmission zero assignment. The proposed inverse LQG,/LTR controllers enhances the forward motion stability and maneuverability of the combination vehicles. At high speeds, where the inherent yaw damping of the vehicle system decreases, the controller operates to maintain an adequate level of yaw damping. At backward moton, both 4WS (2WS tow-vehicle, 2WS trailer) and 6WS (4WS tow-vehicle, 2WS trailer) control laws are proposed by using inverse LQG/LTR method. To evaluate the stability and robustness of the proposed controllers, simulations for both forward and backward motion were conducted using a detailed nonlinear model. The proposed controllers are significantly more robust than the previous controllers and continues to operate effectively in spite of parameter perturbations that would cause previous controllers to enters limit cycles or to loose stability.

This paper proposes a method for measuring friction forces and creating a friction model for a rotary motion control system as well as an autonomous vehicle testbed. The friction forces versus the velocity were measured, and the viscous friction, Coulomb friction, and stiction were identified. With a nominal PID (proportional-integral-derivative) controller, we observed the adverse effects due to friction, such as excessive steady-state errors, oscillations, and limit-cycles. By adding an adequate friction model as part of the augmented nonlinear dynamics of a plant, we were able to conduct a simulation study of a motion control system that well matched experimental results. We have observed that the implementation of a model-based friction compensator improves the overall performance of both motion control systems, i.e., the rotary motion control system and the Altino testbed for autonomous vehicle development. By utilizing a better simulation tool with an embedded friction model, we expect that the overall development time and cost can be reduced.
A fast response NO analyzer was applied to investigate the relation between cycle-by-cycle NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure. NO emissions were sampled at an isolated exhaust manifold of 4-stroke spark ignition engine to avoid the interference of exhaust gas from other cylinders. The linear correlation analysis was performed with collected data of NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure with respect to the various air-fuel mixture ratios and engine loads. The sampled data sets were obtained during 200 cycles at each operating condition. The results showed that there was a typical pattern in NO emissions from an exhaust port through a cycle. It was possible to set a block of crank angle in which the linear correlation coefficient between NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure was high. As the engine load increased, NO emissions were more dependent on combustion chamber pressure after TDC. It was also analyzed that the correlation between two parameters with respect to air-fuel mixture ratio tended to increase as mixture went leaner. Furthermore, this correlation coefficient for the mixture near the lean limit seemed to be kept high even though combustion was unstable.

In this research programs, a series test was conducted to show the effects of freeze/thaw process on the various soil properties. The tests were carried out taken from the west sea shore of Korean peninsular and the west sea shore of Scotland, and their results are as follows; 1. There was a positive total heave in a freezing run, although water may he expelled for the sample initially. The water flow must he reverse' from expulsion to intake. 2. The confining pressure had an overriding influence on the heave and frost penetration, a sudden change of the axial strain at failure with strain rate was observed occuring at a strain rate between 10-5 and 10-6, and the initial friction angle of frozen clay was appeared zero. 3. There was shown a significant decrease in liquid limit of soil which was subjected to freeze/thaw process for the initial value of about 20% because of soil particles aggregation. 4. The cyclic freeze/thaw caused a sinificant reduction in shear strength and its thixotropic regain. The frozen/thawed soil exibited negative strength regain, particularly at high freeze/thaw cycles. 5. The freezing temperature greatly influenced on the failure strength of soils and this. Trend was more pronounced the lower the freezing temperature and shown the ductile failure with indistinct peaks.

A mechanical press joining was investigated in ender for joining A1-5052 sheets for automobile body weight reduction. Static tensile and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens for evaluation of fatigue strength of the joint. During Tox joining process for A1-5052 plates, using the current sheet thickness and punch diameter, the optimal applied punching force was found to be 32 kN under the current joining condition. For the static tensile-shear experiment results, the fracture mode is classified into interface fracture mode, in which the neck area fractured due to influence of neck thickness, and pull-out fracture mode due to influence of plastic deformation of the joining area. And, during fatigue tests for the A1-5052 tensile shear specimens, interface failure mode occurred in the region of low cycle. The fatigue endurance limit approached to 6 percents of the maximum applied load, considering fatigue lifetime of $2.5\times10^6$ cycles.
