  • The most frequent use of the chi-square distribution is in the area of goodness-of-t of a distribution. The likelihood ratio test is a commonly used test statistic as the maximum likelihood estimate in statistical inferences. The recently revised versions of the likelihood ratio test statistics are used in estimating the parameter in the chi-square distribution. The estimates are compared with the commonly used method of moments and the maximum likelihood estimate.

  • This paper focuses on the likelihood based confidence intervals for two inverse gaussian distributions when the parameter of interest is common scale parameter. Confidence intervals based on signed loglikelihood ratio statistic and modified signed loglikelihood ratio statistics will be compared in small sample through an illustrative simulation study.

  • This paper considers the likelihood ratio test statistic based on nonlinear regression quantiles estimators in order to test of hypothesis about the regression parameter $\theta_o$ and derives asymptotic distribution of proposed test statistic under the null hypothesis and a sequence of local alternative hypothesis. The paper also investigates asymptotic relative efficiency of the proposed test to the test based on the least squares estimators or the least absolute deviation estimators and gives some examples to illustrate the application of the main result.

  • In statistical diagnostics a large number of influence measures have been proposed for identifying outliers and influential observations. However it seems to be few accounts of the influence diagnostics on test statistics. We study influence analysis on the likelihood ratio test statistic whether the two sets of variables are uncorrelated with one another or not. The influence of observations is measured using the case-deletion approach, the influence function. We compared the proposed influence measures through two illustrative examples.

  • Relationship between the partial likelihood ratio statistics for logisitic models and the partial goodness-of-fit statistics for corresponding log-linear models is discussed. This paper shows how definitions of suppression in logistic model can be adapted for log-linear model and how they are related to confounding in terms of collapsibility for categorical data. Several $2{times}2{times}2$ contingency tables are illustrated.

  • We compare methods for detecting influential observations that have a large influence on the likelihood ratio test statistics that the two sets of variables are uncorrelated with one another. For this purpose we derive results of the deletion diagnostic, the influence function, the standardized influence matrix and the local influence. An illustrative example is given.

  • In this paper, likelihood-ratio test has been derived for testing multisample sphericity in complex multivariate Gaussian populations. The $h^{th}$ moment of the test statistic is given and its exact distribution has been derived using inverse Mellin transform. Asymptotic distribution of the statistic is also given.

  • In this paper we consider the problem of the model selection/discrimination among three different positively skewed lifetime distributions. Lindley, Weibull, and gamma distributions have been used to effectively analyze positively skewed lifetime data. This paper assesses how much closer the Lindley distribution gets to Weibull and gamma distributions. We consider three techniques that involve the likelihood ratio test, asymptotic likelihood ratio test, and minimum Kolmogorov distance as optimality criteria to diagnose the appropriate fitting model among the three distributions for a given data set. Monte Carlo simulation study is performed for computing the probability of correct selection based on the considered optimality criteria among these families of distributions for various choices of sample sizes and shape parameters. It is observed that overall, the Lindley distribution is closer to Weibull distribution in the sense of likelihood ratio and Kolmogorov criteria. A real data set is presented and analyzed for illustrative purposes.

  • In this paper, asymptotic expansions of the distribution of the likelihood ratio statistic for testing multisample sphericity have been derived in the null and nonnull cases when the alternatives are close to the null hypothesis. These expansions are obtained in the form of series of data distributions.
