  • This study embody the investigation of the winner projects of Young Architecture Program(YAP) taken place annually at front yard of MoMA PS1 since 1998. Every installation of project is experimental exhibition that have ambiguous border in the area between lightness and architecture. Thus the design have less limits as architectural space and talents can express the innovative idea strong. This paper aims to probe annual significant key words by analyzing the contemporary representative space types, materials, fabrication methods and innovative ideas, and to identify the changes of important concept of lightness and recent trend in architect design concept.

수정 CIELAB 색차식을 위한 새로운 색차 가중 함수 (New Weighting Functions for the Modified CIELAB Colour-Difference Formulae)

  • The lightness, chroma and hue tolerances with respect to the standard colour position in the CIELAB space have been studied in detail using the various existing data sets and the set form this study. The lightness tolerance showed a clear dependency upon the metric lightness for medium to light colour, but in the case of dark colours there was a discrepancy between the data sets. Both the chroma and hue tolerances showed dependency upon both the chroma and hue-angle and not the single dependency upon the metric chroma, as assumed in the CIE94 formula. New weighting functions were derived from the above experimental evidence, and finally a new formula, LCD(Leeds Colour Difference) was proposed. The LCD formula is nearly as simple and flexible as CIE94 but smoothes the individual weighting functions, especially for lightness tolerances for light colours and chromaticity discrimination near the blue region.

  • 본 논문에서는 칼라 장치들간에 색을 일치시키기 위하여 색 공간 분할에 기반한 색역 사상 방법을 제안하였다. 각각의 칼라 장치들이 표현할 수 있는 색은 제한되어 있기 때문에, 동일한 칼라 영상들을 서로 다른 매체에서 재현하게 되면 많은 차이를 보인다. 이러한 색 오차를 줄이기 위해, 제안한 방법은 장치의 색역을 휘도 성분의 just noticeable difference(JND)와 색역의 경계선과의 교차점을 기준으로 포물선의 형태로 분할한다. 이렇게 나뉜 색역은 사상의 방향성을 결정하는 기본 단위로 사용되어, 이들 영역을 기점으로 영역 대 영역별 사상 방법을 적용함으로써 색역의 형태학적인 특성에 대한 고려와 사상의 균일성을 획득할 수 있다. 또한 인간 시각에 상대적으로 민감한 특성을 가지는 휘도 성분의 JND를 색역 사상에 사용함으로써 휘도 성분의 변화폭을 인지되지 않는 범위로 제한하여 휘도 대비와 채도 향상의 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 저가의 칼라 출력 장치에서 고화질의 칼라를 재현할 수 있게 한다.

유리병 경량화 지수를 이용한 유리병 포장용기 분석 (Analysis of Glass Bottle using Glass Bottle Lightness Index)

  • 국내 유리병 포장의 개선 방향을 제시하기 위하여 유리병 경량화 지수를 이용하여 유리병 재질 사용 원천 감량을 위한 적정 기준을 설정하였다. 제품의 구분은 사용목적과 사용시간에 따라 일회용병과 다회에 걸쳐 장기간 두고 쓰는 반복사용병(returnable bottle) 및 장기보관 사용 일회용 유리병으로 구분하여 설정하였다. 재사용병의 대부분은 권고기준을 충족하고 있는 것으로 나타났으나 해외 제품의 경우 같은 품목임에도 지수가 최적기준에 준하는 수치를 보여 현저하게 낮은 지수를 보였다. 일회용 유리병 중 소용량 드링크류 유리병은 권고기준을 충족하지 못하여 감량할 필요성이 있는 품목군으로 판단된다. 반면 일회용 유리병 중 180 ml 주스류에 해당되는 품목은 평균적으로 권고기준에 가까운 지수를 보였다. 분석 결과, 해외 제품에 비해 국내 제품의 유리병 경량화 지수가 커 상대적으로 무거운 유리병을 사용하고 있는 것으로 나타나 경량화를 위한 노력이 필요하다고 판단된다. 일본의 경우 일본 유리병 재활용 촉진 협의회를 중심으로 유리병 경량화 지수를 이용하여 유리병의 친환경성을 평가하고 있다. 국내에서 업계의 자발적인 감량화 노력을 유도하는 협의회 구성이 필요하며 경량병 사용시 불이익 발생하지 않는 기술력을 확보해야 한다.

Tooth Lightness Changes with Listerine Healthy White after Application of Tooth-Coloring-Inducing Foods

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the tooth whitening effect of Listerine Healthy White and provide effective management of extrinsic discoloration by comparing the whitening effects of existing whitening products. Methods: The included study four groups: those using whitening gel, whitening toothpaste, and Listerine Healthy White and a control using artificial saliva. Each group received 40 bovine tooth specimens, which were stained with commonly consumed tooth-coloring-inducing foods; black tea, black coffee, and instant noodles for 72 hours. The specimens were treated with tooth whitening materials for 5 weeks, after which the lightness (L*) was measured weekly using a spectrophotometer. Results: There was a significant difference in lightness among the groups between the 1st and 5th week of treatment for all tooth-coloring-inducing foods (p<0.05). When comparing the changes in lightness values from before whitening to the 5th week of whitening for all tooth-coloring-inducing foods, the order of change was as follows: whitening gel, whitening toothpaste, Listerine Healthy White, and artificial saliva. Listerine Healthy White showed a significant whitening effect for all tooth-coloring-inducing foods (p<0.05). Particularly, changes in lightness values for specimens stained by black tea after 5 weeks of whitening were in the following order: whitening gel (21.72), whitening toothpaste (14.89), Listerine Healthy White (12.91), and artificial saliva (3.85). For specimens stained by black coffee, the changes in lightness values were in the following order: whitening gel (12.99), whitening toothpaste (9.66), Listerine Healthy White (7.91), and artificial saliva (3.12). Lastly, changes in lightness values for specimens stained by instant noodles were as follows: whitening gel (10.84), whitening toothpaste (9.85), Listerine Healthy White (7.71), and artificial saliva (2.61). Conclusion: Listerine Healthy White exhibits continuous whitening effects over time, and for consumers seeking convenient ways to achieve tooth whitening effects at home, consistent use of Listerine Healthy White is recommended.

소나무재의 촉진열화실험에 따른 재색변화에 대한 연구 (Study on the Color Changing of Pine by Accelerated Weathering Test)

  • The color changing of the wood surface was tested by accelerated weathering test that can simulate the outdoor condition with short period. In early parts of accelerated weathering test, weight and volume of specimen all were increased due to the moisture evaporation by its high temperature and illumination level, but weight and volume of specimen all were decreased from middle parts to last. However, significancy showed between control group and accelerated weathering test group in terms of weight and volume. According to the results of color-difference meter, in the early parts of the accelerated weathering test lightness, redness and yellowness all showed a clear increasing or decreasing trend. However, after three weeks all values were almost never change. Until the early parts of the test, lightness was decreased and there was not a considerable change after three weeks in the test. Redness showed a some change in early parts of the test, but this also showed not great change after middle parts of the test as like lightness. Yellowness also showed same pattern. These results could be verified through the visual inspection. As like weight and volume, significancy showed between control group and accelerated weathering test group in terms of color-difference test. In all accelerated weathering test group, color-differences of after test was lower than that of before test. To correctly analyze this cause, more additional research will be need on each of temperature, humidity and illumination factors.

Prediction for Quality Traits of Porcine Longissimus Dorsi Muscle Using Histochemical Parameters

  • Muscle fiber characteristics were evaluated for predictability of meat quality traits using 231 crossbred pigs. Muscle $pH_{45min}$, R-value, and $pH_{24hr}$ were selected to estimate regression equation model of drip loss and lightness, although variances of coefficient estimates could only account for small part of drip loss (about 16.3 to 25.3%) and lightness (about 16.9 to 31.7%). Muscle $pH_{24hr}$ was represented to drip loss and lightness, which explained corresponding 25.3 and 31.7% of estimation in drip loss and lightness, respectively. Area percentage of type IIb fiber significantly contributed to prediction of metabolic rate and meat quality. However, equations predicting meat quality traits based on area percentage of type IIb fiber alone are less useful than ones based on early postmortem parameters. These results suggest estimated model using both metabolic properties of muscle and postmortem metabolic rate could be used for prediction of pork quality traits.

  • This study was observed the variations in skin color, hydration, sebum content according to age groups at the forehead, both cheeks, and chin in 154 healthy Korean women subjects with aged 30 to 59. We selected four face sites (forehead, right cheek, left cheek, and chin) and measured with chromameter, corneometer, and sebumeter. All statistical analysis was performed on the computer software package SPSS 8.0. There was no significant difference of lightness between facial four regions in age groups but lightness showed to tend to age-related decrease on each regions. Redness and yellowness showed the highest values on chin and forehead respectively but there was no tendency to steady changes according to age variation. Both cheeks showed the highest hydration level and the lowest sebum content compared with forehead and chin in all age groups and there was tendency to age-related changes of sebum content on both cheeks. So we concluded there was decreasing tendency in lightness and sebum content according to the increase of age and there was no age-related change of skin hydration level at least in facial skin.(omitted)

GAN-Based Local Lightness-Aware Enhancement Network for Underexposed Images

  • Uneven light in real-world causes visual degradation for underexposed regions. For these regions, insufficient consideration during enhancement procedure will result in over-/under-exposure, loss of details and color distortion. Confronting such challenges, an unsupervised low-light image enhancement network is proposed in this paper based on the guidance of the unpaired low-/normal-light images. The key components in our network include super-resolution module (SRM), a GAN-based low-light image enhancement network (LLIEN), and denoising-scaling module (DSM). The SRM improves the resolution of the low-light input images before illumination enhancement. Such design philosophy improves the effectiveness of texture details preservation by operating in high-resolution space. Subsequently, local lightness attention module in LLIEN effectively distinguishes unevenly illuminated areas and puts emphasis on low-light areas, ensuring the spatial consistency of illumination for locally underexposed images. Then, multiple discriminators, i.e., global discriminator, local region discriminator, and color discriminator performs assessment from different perspectives to avoid over-/under-exposure and color distortion, which guides the network to generate images that in line with human aesthetic perception. Finally, the DSM performs noise removal and obtains high-quality enhanced images. Both qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves favorable results, which indicates its superior capacity on illumination and texture details restoration.

경량화 지수를 이용한 페트병의 패키징 설계 기준 (Packaging Design Guideline for PET Bottle using Lightness Index)

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 페트병의 경량화 가능성을 파악하기 위해 780종 이상의 빈용기 무게와 표시 용량의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 페트병은 사용목적에 따라 상압병(생수류), 내열병(쥬스류), 내압병(탄산류), 및 장기보관사용병(소스류)으로 구분하였으며 수집된 빈용기 무게와 표시 용량을 기반으로 각 페트병 종류별 경량화 지수(Lightness Index; L)를 산출하였다. 페트병 원천감량 설계 시 이용가능한 권고 기준 및 최적 기준을 경량화 지수를 이용하여 설정하였다. 예로 500 mL 생수병을 감량화 설계 기준에 맞게 생산할 경우 최적기준 반영시 약 4 g의 감량화가 가능하다. 작성된 설계 기준은 이미 관련 업계에 배포되었으며 생수병을 중심으로 적정 기준 정도의 경량화가 이루어지고 있다. 제시된 페트병 설계 기준은 국내외에서 출시된 페트병을 분석하여 무게 분포 특성을 반영한 결과이므로 현재 출시된 제품의 경량화 정도와 향후 개발되는 제품이 시장에서 어느 정도의 원천감량설계인지 알 수 있는 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
