Mobile devices are becoming powerful enough to realize augmented reality (AR) application. This paper introduces two AR methods to estimate an environmental illumination distribution of a scene. In the first method, we extract the lighting direction and intensity from input images captured with a front-side camera of a mobile device, using its orientation sensor. The second method extracts shadow regions cast by three dimensional (3D) AR marker of known shape and size. Because previous methods examine per pixel shadow intensity, their performances are much affected by the number of sampling points, positions, and threshold values. By using a simple binary operation between the previously clustered shadow regions and the threshold real shadow regions, we can compute efficiently their relative area proportions according to threshold values. This area-based method can overcome point sampling problem and threshold value selection. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed methods generate natural image with multiple smooth shadows in real-time.

Multilayer co-extrusion blown film construction is a popular technique for producing plastic films for various packaging industries. Automated detection of defective films can improve the quality of film production process. In this paper, we propose a film inspection system that can detect and classify film defects robustly. In our system, first, film images are acquired through a high speed line-scan camera under an appropriate lighting system. In order to detect and classify film defects, an inspection algorithm is developed. The algorithm divides the typical film defects into two groups: intensity-based and texture-based. Intensity-based defects are classified based on geometric features. Whereas, to classify texture-based defects, a texture analysis technique based on local binary pattern (LBP) is adopted. Experimental results revealed that our film inspection system is effective in detecting and classifying defects for the multilayer co-extrusion blown film construction line.

This paper proposes a dimming method and a hybrid LED driving circuit suitable for the ultra high definition (UHD) broadcasting. There are major two problems during the dimming control for traditional LED broadcast lightings; one is a flicker that occurred when camera filming to these lightings, and the other is that linear control is impossible for LED luminous intensity under 10% due to LED electrical characteristics. The proposed dimming method and the driving circuit are designed to solve two problems simultaneously. For high level dimming control region from 10 to 100%, the analog control method was applied to the switching regulator constructed by MOSFET operated in the saturation region. For low level dimming control region under 10%, the fast PWM control method with the linear regulator constructed by MOSFET in the ohmic region was used. We verified experimentally that the dimming method is able to control the luminous intensity linearly from 1 to 100% and the flicker disappears on images taken by the charge coupled device (CCD) and the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) cameras. Therefore, the proposed method is suitable for the UHD broadcasting.
The object of this study was to develop the control technology of daily integral photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) by the artificial lighting and shading screen in greenhouse. The shading time needed to get the target PPF by using two types of shading screens having shading ratio of 55% and 85% was analyzed. The results showed the shading ratio of screen to be installed in greenhouse should be different depending on the amount of target PPF to be controlled. The PPF control experiment by using the 55% shading screen in July and August showed that the maximum difference between measured and calculated value was about 5 mol$.$$m^{-2}$$.$$d^{-1}$ in no shading condition. This difference is satisfactory result because the daily integral PPF is quite different depending on the weather condition. The simulation result about PPF distribution pattern shortened the time needed to find the proper arrangement of artificial lightings in greenhouse. But the further study was required to find the supplemental lighting arrangement to be able to provide the exactly uniform distribution of target light intensity. The supplemental irradiation time needed to acquire the target daily integral PPF for different supplemental light intensities, weather conditions, and months was analyzed. The result showed that the supplemental light intensity should be decided depending on the amount of target PPF to be controlled. The result of PPF control experiment conducted by using 55% shading screen and 300 $\mu$mol$.$$m^{-2}$$.$$s^{-1}$ supplemental light intensity from the end of May to the beginning of June showed that the maximum difference between target and measured value was about 3 mol$.$$d^{-1}$$.$$m^{-2}$ . If we consider that the difference of the daily integral PPF depending on weather condition was the maximum 30 mol$.$$m^{-2}$$.$$d^{-l}$, the control effect was acceptable. Although the result of this study was the PPF control technology to grow lettuce, the data and control method obtained could be employed for other crop production.n.

Due to the recent increase in lighting energy consumption in buildings, there are a growing number of studies seeking solutions this problem. The effectiveness of light-shelves as natural lighting systems to solve this problem has been recognized, and various studies regarding such systems are being carried out currently. However, the lighting efficiency of light-shelves decreases if illumination intensity is low-such as at night time, and it also obstructs the views of building occupants. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine a movable drawer type light-shelf which allows for the width of the reflector to be adjusted and verify its performance through a simulated test-bed. The following conclusions were reached. 1) The purpose of this study is to solve the problem previously associated with the light-shelf system- of obstructed views-by responding to external environments and minimizing the width of the light-shelf at night time when the efficiency of the light-shelf declines. 2) The proper variables of the movable drawer type light-shelf which enables the width adjustment of the reflector were ascertained in this study according to four solar terms : a width of 0.6 m at an angle of $20^{\circ}$, a width of 0.4m with an angle of $20^{\circ}$, and a width of 0.1 m with an angle of $20^{\circ}$ were determined for the summer solstice, fall/spring equinoxes, and winter solstice respectively; revealing that width adjustment of the light-shelf is a significant factor. 3) The movable drawer type light-shelf which enables${\backslash}$width adjustment of the reflector suggested in this study can reduce the lighting energy consumption by 18.7% and 14.3% in comparison to previous light-shelves with a fixed width of 0.3 m and 0.6m, indicating that it is effective for saving energy.
In this paper, we propose energy-efficient automatic power controller which can power on and off the signboard at the specified light intensity using the Illuminance Detector. By using segmented section Classification algorithm, light intensity setup system propose variable resistor method which makes users more easy to control. Automatic light on-off system set a standard by measured illuminance data. Measured light-intensity through the Illuminance Detector are communicated with the signboard power controller with wireless communication, and it controls lighting system. In this paper, we evaluated the Energy-Efficient Automatic Power Controller of The Signboard using illuminance detector. Experimental results in lightless environment shows that the error rate is less than 3% by Accredited Testing Laboratories.

Objective: This study was to evaluate the interaction of three different light-emitting diode (LED) light colors (white, green, and blue) and three intensities (5, 10, and 15 lx) on slaughter performance, meat quality and serum antioxidant capacity of broilers raised in three-layer cages. Methods: A total of 648 (8-days-old) male broiler chicks (Cobb-500) were randomly assigned in 3×3 factorially arranged treatments: three light colors (specifically, white, blue, and green) and three light intensities (namely, 5, 10, and 15 lx) for 35 days. Each treatment consisted of 6 replicates of 12 chicks. The test lasted for 35 days. Results: The semi-eviscerated weight percentage (SEWP) in 5 lx white was higher than that in 15 lx (p<0.01). The eviscerated weight percentage (EWP) (p<0.05) and water-loss percentage (WLP) (p<0.01) decreased in 10 lx white light than those in green light. Under blue light, the content of hypoxanthine (Hx) in muscle was lower than that under white and green light (p<0.01). The content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in 15 lx blue light was higher than that in 10 lx green light (p<0.05). Light color had an extremely significant effect on thigh muscle percentage, WLP, Hx, and crude protein content (p<0.01). Light intensity had a significant effect on SEWP (p<0.05), EWP (p<0.05), lightness (L*) value (p<0.05), WLP (p<0.01), and the contents of superoxide dismutase (p<0.05), MDA (p<0.01), glutathione peroxidase (p<0.01). Conclusion: Using white LED light with 10 lx light intensity can significantly improve the chicken quality of caged Cobb broilers, improve the content of inosine acid in chicken breast and enhance the antioxidant capacity of the body. We suggest that the broiler farm can use 10 lx white LED light source for lighting in 8 to 42 days.
Red light (RL) marked higher weight gain (WG) and preference of broilers compared to other light colors. This study aimed to investigate how different intensities of RL affect the performance, behavior and welfare of broilers. RL treatments were T1 = high intensity (320 lux), T2 = medium intensity (20 lux); T3 = dim intensity (5 lux), T4 = control/white light at (20 lux) provided on 20L:4D schedule and T5 = negative control; 12 hours dark: 12 hours day light. Cobb strain broilers were used in a Complete Randomize Design with 6 replicates. WG, water/feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), mortality, behavior and welfare were assessed. At 35 d, significantly (p<0.05) highest body weight ($2,147.06g{\pm}99$) was recorded by T3. Lowest body weight ($1,640.55g{\pm}56$) and FCR (1.34) were recorded by T5. Skin weight was the only carcass parameter showed a significant (p<0.05) influence giving the highest (56.2 g) and the lowest (12.6 g) values for T5 and T1 respectively. Reduced welfare status indicated by significantly (p<0.05) higher foot pad lesions, hock burns and breast blisters was found under T3, due to reduced expression of behavior. Highest walking ($2.08%{\pm}1%$) was performed under T1 in the evening during 29 to 35 days. Highest dust bathing ($3.01%{\pm}2%$) was performed in the morning during 22 to 28 days and highest bird interaction (BI) ($4.87%{\pm}4%$) was observed in the evening by T5 during 14 to 21 days. Light $intensity{\times}day$$session{\times}age$ interaction was significantly (p<0.05) affected walking, dust bathing and BI. Light intensity significantly (p<0.05) affected certain behaviors such as lying, eating, drinking, standing, walking, preening while lying, wing/leg stretching, sleeping, dozing, BI, vocalization, idling. In conclusion, birds essentially required provision of light in the night for better performance. Exposed to 5 lux contributed to higher WG, potentially indicating compromised welfare status. Further researches are suggested to investigate RL intensity based lighting regimen that favors for both production and welfare of Broilers.
The control of stem length is most important external quality aspect in cut chrysanthemum. The present work in conducted in growth chamber and aims at investigating the effect of light intensity on the photosynthesis capacity and stem elongation in cut chrysanthemum. To evaluate the effect, different level of assimilation lighting (LEDs) was given to canopy level 60, 100, 140, and $180mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, individually, under short-day conditions, and the light treatments were initiated from 7days after planting. There was a positive linear-regression relationship between the light intensity and the net assimilation rate. On the other hand, there was not significant difference in flower buds induction. The growth of stem length, leaf area, and dry weight was increased by increasing the light intensity, whereas the plants grown under 140 and $180mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ was not differences in those of growth. It indicates that the increased net assimilation rate is not continually coincided with the maximized growth in cut chrysanthemum. It might be considered that the optimal light intensity for stem elongation of cut chrysanthemum is $140mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ under short-day condition.

This paper proposes a novel framework for traffic video classification based on chaotic features. First, each pixel intensity series in the video is modeled as a time series. Second, the chaos theory is employed to generate chaotic features. Each video is then represented by a feature vector matrix. Third, the mean shift clustering algorithm is used to cluster the feature vectors. Finally, the earth mover's distance (EMD) is employed to obtain a distance matrix by comparing the similarity based on the segmentation results. The distance matrix is transformed into a matching matrix, which is evaluated in the classification task. Experimental results show good traffic video classification performance, with robustness to environmental conditions, such as occlusions and variable lighting.
