Thickness and Angle Dependent Microcavity Properties in Top-Emission Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (상부 발광 유기 발광 소자에서 두께와 시야각에 따른 마이크로 캐비티 특성)

  • Top-emission device has a merit of high aperture ratio and narrow emission spectrum compared to that of bottom-emission one. Emission spectra of top-emission organic light-emitting diodes depending on a layer thickness and view angle were analyzed using a theory of microcavity. Device structure was manufactured to be Al (100 nm)/TPD/$Alq_3$/LiF (0.5 nm)/Al (2 nm)/Ag (30 nm). N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'- di (m-tolyl)-benzidine (TPD) and tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminium (Alq3) were used as a hole-transport layer and emission layer, respectively. And a thickness of TPD and Alq3 layer was varied in a range of 40 nm~70 nm and 60 nm~110 nm, respectively. Angle-dependent emission spectrum out of the device was measured with a device fixed on a rotating plate. Since the top-emission device has a property of microcavity, it was observed that the emission spectrum shift to a longer wavelength region as the organic layer thickness increases, and to a shorter wavelength region as the view angle increases. Layer thickness and view-angle dependent emission spectra of the device were analyzed in terms of microcavity theory. A reflectivity of semitransparent cathode and optical path length were deduced.

Fabrication of Two-dimensional Photonic Crystal by Roll-to-Roll Nanoreplication (롤투롤 나노 복제 공정을 이용한 이차원 광결정 소자의 제작)

  • A two-dimensional photonic crystal structure was investigated using a roll-to-roll nanoreplication and physical vapor deposition processes for the inexpensive enhanced fluorescence substrate which is not sensitive to the polarization directions of excitation light source. An 8 inch silicon master having nano dot array with a diameter of 200 nm, a height of 100 nm and a pitch of 400 nm was prepared by KrF laser scanning lithography and reactive ion etching processes. A flexible polymer mold was fabricated by flat type UV replication process and a deposition of 10 nm nickel layer as an anti-adhesion layer. A roll mold was prepared by warping the flexible polymer mold on an aluminum roll base and a roll-to-roll UV replication process was carried out using the roll mold. After the deposition of ~ 100 nm $TiO_2$ layer on the replicated nano dot array, a 2 dimensional photonic crystal structure was realized with a resonance wavelength of 635 nm for both p- and s-polarized light sources.

Preparation and Photoluminescent Properties of Ca2PO4Cl Activated by Divalent Europium

  • Divalent europium-activated $Ca_2PO_4Cl$ phosphor powders were prepared by a chemical synthetic method followed by heat treatment in reduced atmosphere, and the crystal structures, morphologies and photoluminescence properties of the powders were investigated by x-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscope and spectrometer. The effect of Ca/P mole ratio at the starting materials on the final products was evaluated. The optimized synthesis condition obtained in this study was Ca/P mole ratio of 2.0. The present phosphor materials had higher photoluminescence intensity and better color purity than the commercial blue phosphor powders, $(Ca,Ba,Sr)_{10}(PO_4)_6Cl_2:Eu^{2+}$. The result of excitation spectrum measurement indicated that the excitation efficiency of the synthesized powders was higher for the long-wavelength UV region than that of the commercial phosphor. It was thus concluded that the samples prepared in this study can be successfully applied for the light-emitting devices such as LED excited with long-wavelength UV light sources.

Continuous variation characteristics of pulse width in short cavity dye laser (단공진기 색소레이저의 펄스폭 연속가변 특성)

  • Quenched dye laser (QDL), which operates with relaxation oscillation mode, is one of the most powerful source for ultra-short pulse light. In this paper, the output characteristics of QDL is theoretically analyzed by a computer simulation. The QDL is assumed that the laser dye is Rhodamine 6G which has the oscillation wavelength of 590 nrn and that the active length is 5 mm and that the pumping source is XeCllaser which has oscillation wavelength of 308 nm. It is revealed ilim the pulse width of short cavity dye laser reduced less than 1/100 than pumping pulse duration and has the linear relationship with spatial width of pumping beam approximately. In addition, it is revealed that the short cavity dye laser is a powerful candidate of pulse width variable light source, which is adjusted by spatial size of pumping beam_ beam_

The Estimation Method and Application of UV-cut effect in Lens (렌즈에서 UV 차단효과의 평가방법 및 적용)

  • In order to estimate the UV-A line's cut efficiency it lens, it was measured the light transmittance in the 320~400nm wavelength regions. We obtained the area to integrate the light transmittance of standard CR-39 and sample in the 320~400nm wavelength regions and established ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ of UV-A line's cut efficiency by contrast its area. We obtained the absolute cut efficiency ${\alpha}$ CR=0.59 value of CR-39 Lens, and if ${\alpha}$ was the absolute cut efficiency value of the lens to estimate UV-A cut effect, the relative cut efficiency ${\beta}$ was $1.69{\alpha}$. It was obtained the absolute and the relative UV exclusion index through each $a=(1-{\alpha}){\times}100%$, $b=(1-{\beta}){\times}100%$.

  • The extent of absorption and transmitance of the light that passes through some material is changed as the wavelength of the light varies, and which makdes it possible to estimate characteristics of the material. Spectrometer is a measurement system that can analyze the characteristics of material by using this principle. Its application field is so wide that it can be applied to all the arease that are concerned with analyzing materials : biological, environmental, medical and chemical area etc. This study is focused on developing precision sine drive mechanism for grating monochromator which is the most important part of the spectrometers. It is designed to be simple in struicture. It is achieved to derive basic principles to manipu- late precision sine drive mechanism : it should be aligned with a condition that .beta. , the angle between grat- ing normal and grating rod should be the same as .gamma. , the one between moving nut's normal and sliding guide. And also, it's found that the mis-alignments of the grating and mirrors are not the main factor in guaranteeing the linearity of sine drive mechanism. Performance evaluation is achieved by a standard sample by comparing experimental results with standard values. It results in wavelength accuracy of .+-. 0.5nm and resolution of 1nm. Conclusively, it can be verified that the sine drive mechanism developed in this study is not only simple in structure, but also stable and excellent in performanes.

Fundamental Study on the Quantitative Analysis of Fluorescent Whitening Agent used for Papermaking (제지용 형광증백제의 정량분석에 대한 기초연구)

  • Fluorescent whitening agent (FWA) is a widely used chemical in paper industry, but a systematic and scientific method on FWA analysis has not been established. We performed the basic researches on the fluorescence analysis of FWA. The fluorescence of FWA was investigated using a spectrofluorometer and a spectrophotometer. When FWA solution was analyzed using the spectrofluorometer, we found that the peak wavelength of the fluorescence emission was about 440 nm and that of the fluorescence excitation was about 370 nm irrespective of FWA types. Papers dyed with an internal FWA were prepared in a laboratory and the reflectance and the fluorescence index were measured using the spectrophotometer. It was confirmed that the optimum peak wavelength of the reflectance was 440 nm and the fluorescence index calculated from the CIE whiteness with and without UV light under a light source D65 was the best indicator to measure the fluorescence of FWAs exiting in papers.

Studies on the Light-Induced Mitochondrial ATP Synthase in Pleurotus ostreotus (느타리버섯 중의 광감응성 Mitochondrial ATP Synthase 에 관한 연구)

  • Mitochondria in Pleurotus ostreatus was purified by stepped sucrose density gradient centrifugation. The mitochondrial ATP synthase was investigated by various waveof the illumination at dark room for 30 min. The mitochondrial ATP synthase activity was stimulated 2.3 fold by 480 nm illumination compared with the broad wavelength group. The mitochondrial ATP synthase activity according to various times of illumination was stimulated 4.2 fold for 15 min at 480 nm compared with the broad wavelength group. The optimum pH and optimum temperature of the mitochondrial ATP synthase were 7.5 and $56^{\circ}C$, respectively. The activity of this enzyme was stimulated by 0.5 mmol $Fe^{2+}$, 1.0 mmol $Fe^{3+}$ and 5.0 mmol $k^+$ ion, but inhibited by 0.1 mmol $Na^+$ ion.

Crosslinking Ratio Analysis of Type I Atelocollagen (Type I Atelocollagen의 가교형성비 분석)

  • To utilize collagen as an implantable biomateriall the mcct widely used bovine skin origin Type I collagen was investigated Pepsin treated, Type I atelocollagen was extracted and crosslinked by the ultraviolet(W) ray with wavelength of 254nm or by various concentrations of glutaraldehyde to produce collagen membranes. The crosslink rates of the specimens were observed by a polarized light microscope, a scanning electron microscope, and a Fourier transform infrared (FT-lR) spectrometer. The followings are concluded 1. The collagen membranes produced by both 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution and 254nm UV ray irra- diation demonstrated similar morphologies on polarized light microscopic and scanning electron microscopic views. 2. The chemical structures of the crosslinked membranes by glutaraldehyde over 2.5% in concentrations revealed similar intensities to that of the UV ray irradiated one in FT-lR investigation. 3. To obtain optimal croulink in bovine stalin origin Type I atelocollagen, 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution or UV ray irradiation with 254nm wavelength is acceptable.

Deposition of Fine Linewidth Silver Layer using a Modified Laser-induced Forward Transfer Technique

  • This paper reports the deposition of a metal line using a multilayer stack and laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) using a low cost continuous wave blue laser with a wavelength of 450 nm. The donor structure was composed of a light-to-heat (LTH) layer, a release layer, and a transfer layer in series. Amorphous silicon as the LTH layer absorbs photon energy and converts it to heat. A release layer was melted so that a silver transfer layer would be transferred to the receiver substrate. The transferred silver layer showed reasonable physical and electrical characteristics. A low cost fine linewidth metal layer could be achieved using this modified LIFT technique and blue laser.
