A Comparative Study on Visibility Performance Between Pole Type Lightings and Low-Level Lightings (등주식 조명과 낮은 조명의 성능 비교에 관한 연구)

  • Road lighting is highly preferred as the major nighttime road safety countermeasures. When it comes to the pole-type road lighting, as it's installed at a certain height from the road surface, the driver is dazzled by the light source, interrupting the driver's visibility and furthermore, the light leaks to the area outside the road boundary, worsening the energy efficiency as well as generating the light pollution to the surrounding environment including the animals and plants. The study developed the low-level lighting systems, so it is possible to prevent the lights from being strayed, so there is no any side effects in terms of the sleep deprivation. The study compared the performance as the lightings between low-level lightings and conventional pole based lighting systems. As the results, the low-level lighting systems showed the higher performance in terms of average surface luminance, uniformity, glare compared to the conventional lighting systems.

Dynamic Mode Control of Flexible Robotic Arm (유연한 로보트 팔의 동적 모우드 제어)

  • In the development of a high speed and light weight manipulator, it is necessary to consider the flexibility of a robotic arm. The infinite dynamics must be analyzed to obtain the finite mode modeling to achieve the feasible controller design of the robotic arm. The modeling procedures of the flexible robot arm, and natural frequencies and mode shapes by the constrained and unconstrained mode method are illustrated. The transfer function of the robot arm with a payload is also shown. The controller is designed by the pole assignment and optimal control theory to compensate for the unmodelled dynamic effects to the low order system. Also, the pole assignment method involving the harmonic vibration mode is presented through computer simulation.

  • In the development of a high speed and light weight manipulator, it is necessary to consider the structural elasticity of a robotic arm. The analysis of the infinite mode dynamic of robotic arm must be performed to obtain the finite mode modelling to achieve the feasible controller design of the robotic arm. The modelling procedure of the robotic arm is also illustrated. The controlled mode of the modelled dynamic can be derived by truncating the higher vibrational mode to result in the low order system for the sampling in the control signal is confined to the higher mode. And it is controlled by the pole assignment which can compensate the unmodelled dynamic effects. The unmodelled dynamic can result in the instability of the controlled system, which is known as spillover. The controller design of the low order system is simulated by the pole assignment and optimal control theory.

Seismic Response Investigation of Traffic Signal-Supporting Structures Including Soil-Foundation Effects (지반-기초 영향을 고려한 교통신호등주의 지진응답 분석)

  • This study analyzes the seismic response of traffic light poles, considering soil-foundation effects through nonlinear static and time history analyses. Two poles are investigated, uni-directional and bi-directional, each with 9 m mast arms. Finite element models incorporate the poles, soil, and concrete foundations for analysis. Results show that the initial stiffness of the traffic light poles decreases by approximately 38% due to soil effects, and the drift ratio at which their nonlinear behavior occurs is 77% of scenarios without considering soil effects. The maximum acceleration response increases by about 82% for uni-directional poles and 73% for bi-directional poles, while displacement response increases by approximately 10% for uni-directional and 16% for bi-directional poles when considering soil-foundation effects. Additionally, increasing ground motion intensity reduces soil restraints, making significant rotational displacement the dominant response mechanism over flexural displacement for the traffic light poles. These findings underscore the importance of considering soil-foundation interactions in analyzing the seismic behavior of traffic light poles and provide valuable insights to enhance their seismic resilience and safety.

  • In this short report (before the authors would like to introduce an important application for one of the techniques of complex angular momentunm, say, Regge Pole approach, to nuclear fusion reaction for Light-ions: it will be reported in forthcoming papers), two kinds of thermalnuclear fusion reaction sources are introduced and discussed (A) the case of fusion: the production of neutron and target of Deuteron and (B) the case of fusion: the production of proton and target of Deuteron. Nuclear fusion reactions for Light-ions , such as the thermalnuclear energy sources and fuel cycles, are already well known. Fusion reactions are widely known as being extremly important and nationally vital (in point of view of nuclear weapons we must reconsider seriously development and building of such dangerous weapons) for our next generations in the future. This paper (a topics in review) is concerned with a simple introduction about a new nuclear fusion reaction of the above case of (B) for the second generation.   • Organic EL has been expected to adopt to a new styles of technology that make flat display after Tang & Vanslyke made good electric luminescence device in late 1980s. Their studies based on multi layer structure that consists of emitting layer and carrier transporting layer using proper organic material. But oxidization of organic layer by ITO, energy walls in both pole interface, contaminations of ITO surface, importance of protecting membrane, diffusive dimming of light to cathode organic layer, these causes of degradations are common facts of a macromolecule and micro molecule. We think these degradation caused by the impact of heat and electro-chemical factor, bulk effect and interface phenomenon, and raise a question.

  • Anisakid larvae were found from the liver and stomach of the codfish (Notothenia negzecta) caught from the Antarctic Ocean, South Pole, where the Polar Research Center of The Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute is operating- Through observations by scanning electron (SEM) and light microscopy (LM), they were identified as the third stage larvae of Pseunotewnnovo necipiens, a potential agent of human codworm anisakiasis. They measured 25.0-28.5 mm in length, and 0.6-0.8 mm in width. The SEM revealed a prominent boring tooth, three lips, and excretory pore at the anterior end, and a small but prominent mucron at the posterior end. From whole mounts and cross sections of the larvae the ventriculus, intestinal cecum and a Renette cell were found characteristically at the same plane. Raw eating of the codfish caught from the Antarctic Ocean near the South Pole should be avoided so as to prevent human codworm anisakiasis in this area.

  • Rheo-diecasting with stirring has been used in many material industries. As the 4th Industrial Revolution approaches the world, eco-friendly high-strength and light-weight materials become more important. Casting methods have been studied and used for aluminum-alloy automobile parts. This study carried out the effect analysis of the micro-structure and mechanical properties, such as yield/ultimate tensile strength, elongation, and hardness, of A356 using the 6-pole EMS (electro-magnetic stirring) casting process with a high electromagnetic force. As a result, the hardness and elongation of the A356 after T6 heat-treatment show a significant improvement, respectively, by 20% and 50%.

Ultrastructure of the fertilized egg envelope from Melanotaenia praecox, Melanotaeniidae, Teleostei

  • We examined the morphology of fertilized egg and ultrastructures of fertilized egg envelopes of dwarf rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox) belong to Melanotaeniidae using light and electron microscopes. The fertilized eggs were spherical with adhesive filament, transparent, demersal, and had a narrow perivitelline space and small oil droplets. The size of fertilized egg was 1.02 ± 0.18 mm (n = 30), and there were two kinds of adhesive filament on the fertilized eggs. The long and thick (diameter 12.22 ± 0.52 ㎛, n = 20) adhesive filaments were only at the area of animal pole, and short and thin (diameter 1.99 ± 0.23 ㎛, n = 20) adhesive filaments were around the long filaments. A micropyle was conical shaped with adhesive filament and located near the animal pole of egg. The outer surface of fertilized egg was rough side. Also, the total thickness of the fertilized egg envelope was about 7.46 ± 0.41 ㎛ (n = 20), the fertilized egg envelope consisted of two layers, an inner lamellae layer and an outer layer with high electron-density. And the inner layer was 8 layers. Collectively, these morphological characteristics and adhesive property of fertilized egg with adhesive filaments, and ultrastructures of micropyle, outer surface, and section of fertilized egg envelope are showed species specificity.

  • The ultrastructure of fertilized egg envelope from Pseudobagrus fulvidraco belongs to Bagridae was investigated using light and electron microscopes. The fertilized egg was compressed spherical, light-yellowish, demersal, and adhesive. The size of fertilized egg is about $1.85{\pm}0.13mm$, perivitelline space is not well developed, and there were no appendicular structures on the outer surface of egg envelope and oil droplets in vitelline membrane under light microscope. The micropyle was located in the animal pole of fertilized egg. Adhesive reticular fiber was covered fertilized egg envelope. The thickness of egg envelope was about $3.7{\sim}4.2{\mu}m$, and the egg envelope consisted of two layers: an outer, electron-dense adhesive fibers layer and an simple inner layer with pore. Therefore, the ultrastructure of cross section of the fertilized egg envelope showed species specificity, but studies on the other species belongs to Bagridae were need to get correct information about common traits in family.
