  • It has been reported that fatigue damage sometimes occurred at the stress concentrated and dynamic loaded structural members of bulk carrier. In this paper, studies on fatigue strength of hull structures are reviewed, and the program for evaluating fatigue strength is developed. And the fatigue crack initiation and propagation on the end part of cargo hold frame of bulk carrier were calculated by FEM stress analysis and the fatigue strength evaluation program. These method can be applied not only to the crack initiation life but also to crack propagation life for the hull structural members at the hull design stage and be effective as the guideline to prevent the crack initiation or to estimate the fatigue strength for repairing of the fatigue damaged structures of real ships.

  • This study was conducted to compare volumes estimated from two taper functions and observed volumes of Chamaecyparis obtusa trees to evaluate accuracy and precision of centroid method. Centroid volume estimates were also compared with volume estimates from existing Forest Resources Evaluation and Prediction Program. The results of this study showed that Gregoire's simple taper function produced unbiased volume estimates while the others were biased. Volume estimates from the Forest Resources Evaluation and Prediction Program were also biased when applied in the Jangseong National Forest regions. These results suggested that the centroid method could produce reliable stem volumes of trees when no other reliable stem volume equations exist.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the physical activity promotion program on physical function and quality of life in the elderly. Method: The research was designed with one single pre-post group. The study group of 295 elderlies were selected through the convenience sampling form in a senior citizen's center in Ulsan city. The subjects received the physical activity promotion program for 60 min three times a week for 3 months. To evaluation the effects of the physical activity promotion program, body mass index (BMI), physiological index, physical function (muscle endurance, agility, balance) and quality of life were measured at before and after the program. The data was analyzed through SPSS 10.0 program for descriptive statistics and paired t-test. Result: After performing the physical action promotion program for 3 months, the results were follows. 1) There were significantly increased in BMI (t=4.36, p=.000). 2) There were significantly decreased in diastolic pressure (t=.68, p=.009). 3) There were significantly improved in muscle endurance (t=6.50, p=.000), agility (t=4.74, p=.000) and Rt. leg balance (t=4.15, p=.000). 4) There were significantly improved in quality of life (t=7.28, p=.000). Conclusion: These findings showed that the physical activity promotion program was effective in improving physical function and quality of life in the elderly. Therefore, the physical activity promotion program could be applied as an effective nursing intervention program for the elderly to promote their health.

  • In order to manage the correct posture in daily life, it is necessary to evaluate the objective posture and appropriate prescription and management. The posture evaluation program is widely used as a method to evaluate posture relatively easily and safely. However, the existing posture evaluation program is evaluated by utilizing the position of the skeletal system, but lacks feedback on the result of the evaluation because the muscle information causing the posture is lacking and the efficiency of the program is decreased. Therefore, we will improve the existing posture evaluation program and design the system that helps the correct posture management by the appropriate exercise prescription based on the feedback that the server measures and stores the evaluation result through the SOAP message.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the horticultural therapy program on patients with mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia depending on the frequency and duration of the interventions. We developed the same 15-session program to improve cognitive functions and life satisfaction and alleviate depression of the elderly women with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia. Subjects in Longer Treatment group participated in the program once a week for 15 weeks and subjects in Shorter Tratmet group participated twice a week for 7½ weeks. This study conducted pretest-posttest verification of both groups using quasi-experimental design involving 21 subjects. Elderly life satisfaction, Geriatric Depression Scale (short form), and the Korean Version of Consortium to Establish a Registry of Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD-K) were used in the evaluation. As a result, both groups showed an increase in life satisfaction, and a decrease in depression. However, there was a significant difference in the changes of the CERAD-K scores between the two groups (p < .05). In Longer Treatment group, life satisfaction increased significantly (p < .001), and depression decreased at a marginally significant level (p = .068), but no statistically significant change was observed in neurocognitive function. In Shorter Treatment group, life satisfaction increased at a marginally significant level (p = .059), and depression and CERAD-K scores decreased significantly (p < .05). However, in the case of Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K), there was no significant change in both groups. According to these results, when planning a horticultural therapy program for persons with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia, it is effective to organize and execute the program by determining the duration of intervention as 3 to 4 months or longer, even if this reduces the number of interventions per week.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a suicide prevention education program called "Life Talk Talk" among middle and high school students in D City. Methods: The educational content of the "Life Talk Talk" program was compiled through nine rounds of consultations and meetings with suicide prevention experts. Prior to the implementation of the program, consent was obtained from all research participants and their guardians. First , a pilot study was conducted with 100 middle and high school students located in D city, following which the present study was conducted from May to July 2023 with 1,400 middle and high school students in D city. The effects of the program were evaluated by assessing the changes in suicidal ideation, help-providing abilities, and suicide prevention knowledge in the data collected both before and after the education. Statistical analysis included frequency analysis and a paired-sample t-test. Results: The final analysis included 1,380 participants. In the general characteristics,, 1,079 people (78 %) answered "yes" to the question about suicide prevention education experience . The study found a significant decrease in suicidal attitudes (t=-8.92, p<.001) and significant improvements in emotional and cognitive attitudes of participants after the "Life Talk Talk" program . Additionally, all five items related to help-providing abilities (t=-23.83, p<.001) and suicide prevention knowledge (p<.001) showed significant improvement from before the program. Conclusion: The significance of this study lies in demonstrating the effectiveness of the "Life Talk Talk" suicide prevention education program in reducing suicidal attitudes as well as improving help-providing abilities and suicide prevention knowledge. Therefore, to enhance the effectiveness of suicide prevention education, it is essential to regularly implement concise and engaging educational programs that capture the attention of adolescents.
