The purpose of this study was to provide suggestions for the effective management of e-journals in academic libraries. Existing literatures were reviewed, web sites were examined, and informal interviews with librarians were conducted. This study comprehensively discussed various aspects of e-journal management, including 1) user behavior, 2) selection, acquisition, and evaluation, 3) access and search, 4) user education and its promotion, 5) archiving, 6) open access, 7) collection development policy.

This study aims to identify factors to be considered in designing and operating CD-ROM network systems efficiently and provide designers and operators with basic guidelines. In this study, the current status and problems of CD-ROM network systems at 72 domestic university libraries are examined, and user behavior and satisfaction of 64 actual users in 3 universities are analyzed. In addition, to examine the influenced correlation among the factors such as user satisfaction, system operating policy, system resources and system performance, $\chi^2(Chi-Square)$ test, F test and regression analysis are carried out and the factors influencing user satisfaction are examined.

본 연구는 공공도서관 이용자들을 대상으로 실제 도서관 이용과 관련한 구전행위가 어떤 내용으로 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 공공도서관 한 곳을 주 1회 이상 정기적으로 이용하는 20-40대 이용자들을 대상으로 심층 면접을 통해 자료를 수집하고, 근거 이론 방법을 적용해 데이터를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 총 130개 개념과 58개의 하위범주, 그리고 17개의 범주가 도출되었고, 도서관 서비스 이용에서 구전으로 이어지는 일련의 과정은 '도서관 인지-도서관 서비스 이용 및 경험-도서관에 대한 구전 행위-구전 행위에 따른 결과'의 네 단계로 정리해 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 도출된 핵심범주는 '나에게는 가깝지만 같이 소통하기에는 어려운 도서관'으로써, 평소 도서관과 관련된 것들에 관심이 많은 이용자들에게는 도서관이 가깝고 친근한 시설이지만 대다수의 일반인들에게는 구전을 통한 소통과 이해가 어려운 장소로 인식되는 것으로 나타났다.

This study presents the findings from research on the Everyday Life Information Seeking (ELIS) behaviors of Korean government officials in their 50s. 500 survey respondents participated and the quantitative data were analyzed through Structural Equation Model having six key concepts such as personal information environment, information-seeking attitudes, online information attitudes, barriers to information seeking, retirement expectations, and library expectations. The findings showed the important relationships between expectations of the retirement and two constructs (personal information environment and information-seeking attitudes). This study can be used as a strategic implication for library practitioners to develop their library management process in accordance to the potential and powerful evolving user group in a future aged society.

Objectives : The objective of this study was to examine the academic informationseeking behavior and demand of the oriental medical researcher and to create the base data for establishing a library environment providing a high-quality information service which would aid the activity of such researchers, Methods : We distributed a questionnaire to the one hundred professors of the college of oriental medicine on the method of acquisition of information data, the environment of the library belonging to the college, and the like. Results : $\circled1$ The main class using the academic information service of oriental medicine was revealed to be researchers having a career of 10 to 15 years who had a domestic doctorate in oriental medicine. $\circled2$ When accessing information, the primary information resource used was academic journals. $\circled3$ Of the data forms mentioned in the study, periodicals was used most in number of printed data; computer databases among non-printed data. $\circled4$ The purpose of using an information resource was for performing a research project. $\circled5$ The path of acquisition of information was usually through the materials in their possession. $\circled6$ The greatest difficulty in gathering information was first of all the lack of information owned by the library, and next a lack of time and insufficient knowledge of information search and use. $\circled7$ More than 90% of respondents on the necessity of an expert library answered as "necessary" or "certainly necessary", indicating that the foundation of an expert library is very urgent. Conclusions : This study is beneficial for researchers engaged in oriental medicine to activate the use of information and also it will form a base of data for researchers to establish an environment of expert library in oriental medicine.

In this paper, we analyze a user's usage behavior, identify and track search intention and interest field based on the National Science and Technology Standard Classification, and use it to personalize science and technology information. In other words, we sought to satisfy both efficiency and satisfaction in searching for information that users want by improving scientific information search performance. We developed the personalization service of science and technology information and evaluated the suitability and usefulness of personalized information by comparing the search performance between expert experimental group and control group. As a result, the personalization service proposed in this study showed better search performance than comparative service and proved to provide higher usability.

As the improvement of digital technologies increases the use of images from various fields, the domain of image retrieval has evolved and become a growing topic of research in the Library and Information Science field. The purpose of this study is to identify the knowledge structure of the image retrieval domain by using the author co-citation analysis and author bibliographic coupling as analytical tools in order to understand the domain's past and present. The data set for this study is 245 articles with 8,031 cited articles in the field of image retrieval from 1998 to 2013, from the Web of Science citation database. According to the results of author co-citation analysis for the past of the image retrieval domain, our findings demonstrate that the intellectual structure of image retrieval in the LIS field consists of predominantly user-oriented approaches, but also includes some areas influenced by the CBIR area. More specifically, the user-oriented approach contains six specific areas which include image needs, information seeking, image needs and search behavior, image indexing and access, indexing of image collection, and web image search. On the other hand, for CBIR approaches, it contains feature-based image indexing, shape-based indexing, and IR & CBIR. The recent trends of image retrieval based on the results from author bibliographic coupling analysis show that the domain is expanding to emerging areas of medical images, multimedia, ontology- and tag-based indexing which thus reflects a new paradigm of information environment.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the overall web information seeking behavior of news reporters and analyze its correlation with parameters that characterize information needs, preferred sources of information, information technology and internet use and satisfaction. For this purpose, a survey of205 news reporters working at domestic newspaper companies, including daily newspapers, magazines, and online newspapers was conducted. News reporters' primary purposes of seeking web information were to simply check facts and collect overall background information. Their information needs had close association with their position, media type, and familiarity with the internet, but with little association with gender, age, and reporting area.

This study aims to find an optimal method for the mobile map application to provide directions by analyzing users' behavior in wayfinding and the information referenced in the direction-finding tasks. The mobile application provided information such as 'the name of the store on the first floor,' 'current location and directions to proceed if there are multi-branching roads,' and 'alleyways.' In the visual representation of information, the application should pay attention to 'landmark elements such as subway station exits and bus stops,' 'the color of crosswalks and overpasses,' 'division between sidewalks and driveways,' and 'entry to the subway stations.' For the mobile map application to provide intuitive interaction, it is necessary to specify 'the direction toward the destination,' 'the possible rotation of the map screen,' and 'the big roads' preference guidance.'
