A method of estimating the distance using single zoom camera limits a distance range(only optical axis) in field of view. So, in this paper, we propose a method of estimating the distance information in Stereoscopic display using the stereo zoom lens module for estimating the distance in the wide range. The binocular stereo zoom lens system is composed using a horizontal moving camera module. The left and right images are acquired in polarized stereo monitor for getting the conversion and estimating a distance. The error distance is under 10mm which has difference between optically a traced distance and an estimated distance in left and right range $(0mm{\sim}500mm)$ at center. This presents the system using a function of the zoom and conversion has more precise distance information than that of conversion control. Also, a method of estimating a distance from horizontal moving camera is more precise value than that from toe-in camera by comparing the error distance of the two camera methods.

To solve the problem that photovoltaic panels can not harvest electrical energy at a cloudy day and night, a floating solar thermoelectric generator (FSTEG, hereafter) is studied. The FSTEG is consisted of a dome shaped Fresnel lens to condense solar energy, a thermoelectric module connected with a heat sink to keep temperature difference, a floating system simulating a wavy ocean and an electrical circuit for energy storage. The dome shaped Fresnel lens was designed to have 29 prisms and its optical performance was evaluated outdoors under natural sunlight. Four thermoelectric modules were electrically connected and its performance was evaluated. The generated energy w as stored in a Li-ion battery by using a DC-DC step-up converter. For the application of ocean environment, the FSTEG was covered by the dome shaped Fresnel lens and sealed to float in a water-filled reservoir. The harvested energy shows a potential and a method that the FSTEG is suitable for the energy generation in the ocean environment.
A multi-view display is regarded as the most practical technology to provide a three-dimensional effect to a viewer because it can provide an appropriate viewpoint according to the observer's position. But, most multi-view displays with flat shapes have a disadvantage in that a viewer watches 3D images only within a limited front viewing angle. In this paper, we proposed a spherical display using a ball lens with spherical symmetry that provides perfect parallax by extending the viewing zone to 360 degrees. In the proposed system, each projection lens is designed to be packaged into a small modular array, and the module array is arranged in a spherical shape around a ball lens to provide vertical and horizontal parallax. Through the applied optical module, the image is formed in the center of the ball lens, and 3D contents are clearly imaged with the size of about 0.65 times the diameter of the ball lens when the viewer watches them within the viewing window. Therefore, the feasibility of a 360-degree full parallax display that overcomes the spherical aberration of a ball lens and provides a wide field of view is confirmed experimentally.
A novel hyperspectral imaging spectrometer controlling spatial and spectral resolution individually has been proposed. This imaging spectrometer uses a zoom lens as a telescope and a focusing element. It can change the spatial resolution fixing the spectral resolution or the spectral resolution fixing the spatial resolution. Here, we report the concept of the hyperspectral imaging spectrometer with the novel zooming function and the optical design of a zoom lens as the focusing element. By using lens module and third-order aberration theory, we have presented the initial design of four-group zoom lens with external entrance pupil. And the optimized zoom lens with a focal length of 50 to 150 mm is obtained from the initial design by the optical design software. As a result, the designed zoom lens shows satisfactory performances in wavelength range of 450 to 900 nm as a focusing element in an imaging spectrometer. Furthermore, the collimator lens of the imaging spectrometer is designed through the third-order aberration correction by using an iterative process.
This study presents the compact zoom lens with a zoom ratio of 5x for a mobile camera by using a prism. The lens modules and aberrations are applied to the initial design for a four-group inner-focus zoom system. An initial design with a focal length range of 4.4 to 22.0 mm is derived by assigning the first-order quantities and third-order aberrations to each module along with the constraints required for optimum solutions. We separately designed a real lens for each group and then combined them to establish an actual zoom system. The combination of the separately designed groups results in a system that satisfies the basic properties of the zoom system consisting of the original lens modules. In order to have a slim system, we directly inserted the right-angle prism in front of the first group. This configuration resulted in a more compact zoom system with a depth of 8 mm. The finally designed zoom lens has an f-number of 3.5 to 4.5 and is expected to fulfill the requirements for a slim mobile zoom camera having high zoom ratio of 5x.

We have developed a compact and cost-effective camera module on the basis of wafer-scale replication technology. A multiple-layered structure of several aspheric lenses in a mobile camera module is first assembled by bonding multiple glass-wafers on which 2-dimensional replica arrays of identical aspheric lenses are UV-embossed, followed by dicing the stacked wafers and packaging them with image sensor chips. We have demonstrated a VGA camera module fabricated by the wafer-scale replication processing with various UV-curable polymers having refractive indices between 1.4 and 1.6, and with three different glass-wafers of which both surfaces are embossed as aspheric lenses having 200 um sag-height and aspheric-coefficients of lens polynomials up to tenth-order. We have found that precise compensation in material shrinkage of the polymer materials is one of the most technical challenges, in order to achieve a higher resolution in wafer-scaled lenses for mobile camera modules.

As one of the core technologies in the field of the optical communication with WDM, the optical cross connector with movements of micro mirrors is getting important day by day. The packaging structure of 2-dimensional NxN MOEMS switch should be determined by the harmonization of the following items such as the geometrical compatability between optical and structural components, the characteristics of optical input and output parts with device, and the electrical performance for the operation of micro mirrors. Therefore, the packaging process could be defined as the integrated technology completed by the optical and electrical science and the material science for the understanding of its thermo-mechanical properties with packaging materials. In the present study, the harmonization between the optical and structural components as well as the optical characteristics of lens system used will be investigated.

Aspheric glass lenses was fabricated by glass molding press(GMP), which is a plano-aspheric convox shape and intended for use as an optical design of 3 megapixel and 2.5 magnifications zoom in a camera phone module. Transcription ratio of form accuracy (PV) as well as resolution properties was measured for evaluation the molded lens. Form accuracy (PV) of the mold surface was $0.127\;{\mu}m$ in an aspheric and $0.168\;{\mu}m$ in a plano, in case of the molded lens it shows $0.205\;{\mu}m$ and $0.223\;{\mu}m$, respectively. Resolution of the molded lens was measured as a MTF[Contrast]. The molded lens shows contrast of 32.9% at 80 1p/mm and the value is similar with contrast of 33% obtained simulation.

Aspheric glass lenses have many optical advantages, for glass have superior optical performance and an aspheric form can reduce optical aberrations. Recently, the use of it is rapidly expanding as the mass production becomes possible by glass molding press and so this method is considered as the best method for fabricating an aspheric glass lens, but it is difficult to control many parameters for pressing and cooling process. Design of experiments (DOE) is a very useful tool to design and analyze complicated industrial design problems. This study investigated the pressing conditions to mold aspheric glass lenses for mega pixel phone camera module using DOE method. We have applied fractional factorial design and the response variable was set form accuracy (PV) of aspheric surface of molded lens. The results of analysis indicates that all factors expect for pressing force of each step are available for the form accuracy (PV). It was the optimum condition of the designed pressing conditions for lowering the form accuracy(PV) value of molded lens that all factors were at the low level. The form accuracy (PV) of mold and molded lens under the optimum condition are $0.85\;{\mu}m$ and $0.922\;{\mu}m$ respectively.
