  • Existing clothing product search is possible only with text search, so it is not possible to properly search for the product that the user is looking for, and it takes a lot of time to search for the desired product. In addition, it was difficult to know where to sell unbranded products such as Soho Mall products, and it was difficult to search for detailed attributes of fashion products. To solve this problem, we would like to propose a deep learning technique that can search for the exact information that the user wants through the learned image search.

  • It is difficult for us to teach the introduction course of programming to beginners just starting their college life. What is particularly hard to do is to provide them with learning motivation so that the freshmen can be easily and rapidly adapted to programming work and to enhance their will to learn. In this paper, we suggest a method to apply LEGO Mindstorms robot to the introduction course of programming in purpose to allow programming beginners to be motivated and have higher will to learn so that they can receive programming education easily and joyfully. This paper attempts to find reasonable methods for improvement which can help programming beginners to be motivated and encouraged to learn in the course of C programming education and can facilitate learning effects as well, and conducts education using LEGO Mindstorms robot as a way to solve problems like students' low interest or will to learn. According to the result of providing the freshmen with the introduction course of C programming to which the suggested method was applied, it was found that their academic achievement in programming education enhanced through their increased motivation and will to learn programming. This result shows that students' interest, motivation, and will to learn the subject are statistically significant improvement through the course that employs LEGO Mindstorms robot.

  • As the fourth industrial revolution, in which people, objects, and information are connected as one, various fields such as smart energy, smart cities, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, unmanned cars, and robot industries are becoming the mainstream, drawing attention to big data. Among them, Smart Grid is a technology that maximizes energy efficiency by converging information and communication technologies into the power grid to establish a smart grid that can know electricity usage, supply volume, and power line conditions. Smart meters are equient that monitors and communicates power usage. We start with the goal of building a virtual smart grid and constructing a virtual environment in which real-time data is generated to accommodate large volumes of data that are small in capacity but regularly generated. A major role is given in creating a software/hardware architecture deployment environment suitable for the system for test operations. It is necessary to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the software according to the characteristics of the collected data and select sub-projects suitable for the purpose. The collected data was collected/loaded/processed/analyzed by the Hadoop ecosystem-based big data platform, and used to predict power demand through deep learning.

Isolated Word Recognition with the E-MIND II Neurocomputer (E-MIND II를 이용한 고립 단어 인식 시스템의 설계)

  • This paper introduces an isolated word recognition system realized on a neurocomputer called E-MIND II, which is a 2-D torus wavefront array processor consisting of 256 DNP IIs. The DNP II is an all digital VLSI unit processor for the EMIND II featuring the emulation capability of more than thousands of neurons, the 40 MHz clock speed, and the on-chip learning. Built by these PEs in 2-D toroidal mesh architecture, the E- MIND II can be accelerated over 2 Gcps computation speed. In this light, the advantages of the E-MIND II in its capability of computing speed, scalability, computer interface, and learning are especially suitable for real time application such as speech recognition. We show how to map a TDNN structure on this array and how to code the learning and recognition algorithms for a user independent isolated word recognition. Through hardware simulation, we show that recognition rate of this system is about 97% for 30 command words for a robot control.

  • With the rapid development of mobile services and the prevalence of education robots, robots are being developed to become a part of our lives and they can be utilized to assist teachers in giving education or learning to students. This standard has been proposed to define the degree of autonomy for education robot. The autonomy is an ability to perform a given work based on current state and sensor value without human intervention. The degree of autonomy is a scale indicating the extent of autonomy and it is determined in between 1 and 10 by considering the level of work and human intervention. It has been adapted as per standard and education robots can be utilized in teaching the students autonomously. Education robots can be beneficial in education and it is expected to contribute in assisting the teacher's education.

  • This research is to analyze the public cases of information facilities in terms of central circulations in multi level volumes such as atrium or court which provide visual intervention between different spaces and physical connections such as bridges. Hunt Library design balances the understood pre-existing needs with the University's emerging needs to create a forward-thinking learning environment. While clearly a contemporary structure within a traditional context of the NCSU campus, the Hunt Library provides a positive platform for influencing its surroundings. Both technical and programmatic innovations are celebrated as part of the learning experience and provide a versatile and stimulating environment for students. Public library as open spaces connecting to an interactive social domain over communities can provide variety of learning environments, or technology based labs. There are many cases of the public information spaces with dynamic networks where participants can play their roles in physical space as well as in the intellectual stimulation. In the research, new public projects provide typologies of information spaces with user oriented media. The research is to address a creative transition between the reading space and the experimental links of the integration of state-of-the-art technology is highly visible in the building's design. The user-friendly browsing system that replaces the traditional browsing with the virtual shelves classified and archived by their form, is to reduce the storage space of the public library and it is to allow more space for collaborative learning. In addition to the intelligent robot of information storages, innovative features is the large-scale visualization space that supports team experiments to carry out collaborative online works and therefore the public library's various programs is to provide visitors with more efficient participatory environment.

  • Study analyzes whether the 3D CAD class using the flipped learning-based PBL is effective in acquiring professional knowledge and nurturing talent. A Flipped Learning-based PBL class was implemented for 3rd grade students of Robot and Automation Engineering Major, Dong-Eui University, and a survey was conducted on satisfaction and effectiveness. The students seemed to be generally satisfied with the class, and the flipped learning-based PBL appeared to be effective in improving the competency required by companies. In particular, it is hoped that it will contribute to the use of video education in practical subjects in the future by proving that practical classes can be operated effectively even in non-face-to-face learning. Moreover, this study is an important indicator for future research and will be used as a quantitative indicator for class improvement.

Path Tracking Control Using a Wavelet Based Fuzzy Neural Network for Mobile Robots

  • In this paper, we present a novel approach for the structure of Fuzzy Neural Network(FNN) based on wavelet function and apply this network structure to the solution of the tracking problem for mobile robots. Generally, the wavelet fuzzy model(WFM) has the advantage of the wavelet transform by constituting the fuzzy basis function(FBF) and the conclusion part to equalize the linear combination of FBF with the linear combination of wavelet functions. However, it is very difficult to identify the fuzzy rules and to tune the membership functions of the fuzzy reasoning mechanism. Neural networks, on the other hand, utilize their learning capability for automatic identification and tuning. Therefore, we design a wavelet based FNN structure(WFNN) that merges these advantages of neural network, fuzzy model and wavelet transform. The basic idea of our wavelet based FNN is to realize the process of fuzzy reasoning of wavelet fuzzy system by the structure of a neural network and to make the parameters of fuzzy reasoning be expressed by the connection weights of a neural network. And our network can automatically identify the fuzzy rules by modifying the connection weights of the networks via the gradient descent scheme. To verify the efficiency of our network structure, we evaluate the tracking performance for mobile robot and compare it with those of the FNN and the WFM.

Development and Application of Robot Task using Tangible Programming Tool for Elementary Students (텐지블 프로그래밍 도구를 활용한 논리적 사고력기반의 초등 로봇 과제 개발 및 적용)

  • Recently, programming education is being actively performed in education field with development of educational programming language and teaching and learning methods for elementary students. However, programming education have limit to apply to the overall computer science curriculum, because it is performed by more than 5th grade and focused on the utilization of programming tools than problem-solving process. It is necessary to expand the range of students and educational content considered with problem-solving process for encouraging programming education in computer science. In this study, we suggest the easy-to-use programming tool for lower grade(1st grade) and robot programming task based on improvement of student's thinking ability. We use Tangible User Interface(TUI) for elementary student's(1st grade) convenience of programming and developed the robot programming task for improvement of logical thinking. As a result of this experiment, tangible programming tool can be used easily in elementary students(1st grade) and developed robot programming task is effective in improvement of logical thinking.

Development of Algorithm for Prediction of Bead Height on GMA Welding (GMA 용접의 최적 비드 높이 예측 알고리즘 개발)

  • The sensors employed in the robotic are welding system must detect the changes in weld characteristics and produce the output that is in some way related to the change being detected. Such adaptive systems, which synchronise the robot arm and eyes using a primitive brain will form the basis for the development of robotic GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding which increasingly higher levels of artificial intelligence. The objective of this paper is to realize the mapping characteristics of bead height through learning. After learning, the neural estimation can estimate the bead height desired from the learning mapping characteristic. The design parameters of the neural network estimator(the number of hidden layers and the number of nodes in a layer) are chosen from an estimation error analysis. A series of bead of bead-on-plate GMA welding experiments was carried out in order to verify the performance of the neural network estimator. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator can predict the bead height with reasonable accuracy and guarantee the uniform weld quality.
