  • This paper, drawing on various secondary sources related to bilingualism and bilingual education, proposes a semi-CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) model as an initial option for Korea's ELT instruction at a primary level, with a subsequent application to a secondary level in mind. It is reported that the current pedagogy focused on early English education and communicative language teaching does not meet the needs of students' EFL proficiency. The main reasons for this are considered to lie in the social and educational environment which impedes EFL students' meaningful and authentic communication in target language. Thus, by exploring a conceptual approach to such a problem, this paper suggests a paradigm of integrating content and language for a reasonable solution.

  • The present study aims to examine how the roles of teacher and learners affect the repair patterns of both teacher's and learner's utterances in English as a second language (ESL) classroom discourse. The study analyzed beginning ESL classroom discourse and found that the structure of repair seems to be greatly influenced by the roles of participants in a second language classroom. The teacher's repair work was mainly characterized by self-repair. In contrast, learners' repair sequences were predominantly characterized by other-repair. More specifically, self-initiation by the learner of the trouble source was cooperatively completed by the teacher and the other learners. Other-initiated and other-completed repair was the most prevalent form in the current classroom data, which was carried out by the teacher in both modulated and unmodulated manners. When the trouble sources were mostly concerned with the learners' problems with linguistic competence and information presented in the textbook, other-repair took place in a modulated manner (i.e., recasting and prompting). On the other hand, when dealing with learners' errors with factual knowledge, other-repair was conducted in an unmodulated way (i.e., 'no' plus correction).

  • Renewable energy is emerging as a reliable alternative source of energy, it is much safer, cleaner than conventional sources and has contributed significantly in this sector. However, there are still some challenges that needed to address this evolving technology. Artificial Intelligence (A. I.) can assess the past, optimize the present, and forecast the future. Therefore, A. I. will resolve most of these problems. Artificial intelligence is complex in nature, but it reduces error and aims to reach a greater degree of precision which make renewables smarter. This paper provides an overview of frequently used A. I. methods in solar energy applications. A sample algorithm is also provided for literature purposes and knowledge transfer.

  • Rural enterprise clusters in India have often been characterized by low-end products, poor income earning options and a near-absence of innovativeness. This has implied limited market access, inadequate organization of production and distancing from sources of formal knowledge. Policy neglect of rural industrialization notwithstanding this paper explores the nature of institutional constraints to innovation through intensive case studies of five rural artisan clusters (handlooms and handicrafts) in as many Indian states. Whether it relates to access to loan finance or technology support or linking to markets, the formal institutions (public or private) have been distanced by informality that typifies most rural enterprise clusters. An obsession with a sectoral approach to cluster development has negated addressing infirmities of the space of enterprise, even as scope for learning from some Asian economies in rural enterprise promotion exists. The paper also enquires if the innovation systems have been inclusive and pro-poor.

  • This paper, as a conlcusion to this special issue, presents the future work that is being carried out at NTU Singapore in collaboration with Microsoft Research and Microsoft Azure for Research. For our research team the real frontier research in world histories starts when we want to use computers to structure historical information, model historical narratives, simulate theoretical large scale hypotheses, and incent world historians to use virtual assistants and/or engage them in teamwork using social media and/or seduce them with immersive spaces to provide new learning and sharing environments, in which new things can emerge and happen: "You do not know which will be the next idea. Just repeating the same things is not enough" (Carlo Rubbia, 1984 Nobel Price in Physics, at Nanyang Technological University on January 19, 2016).

  • The goal of this study was to explore topic defining patterns of students in interdisciplinary Capstone Design Class. Thematic analysis methodology was used to examine 85 Korean college students' lived experience of project topic generation which is for interdisciplinary capstone design class and Individual open-ended survey for constituted the data sources. Findings show four contexts of student's topic defining patterns using thematic analysis including (a) one leader's directed problem representation, (b) team common decision making after brainstorming, (c) empathy with professor proposed issue, (d) problems offered to students by corporate or research competitions. Based on research result, I could suggest instructional strategies of Capstone Design Class of teacher for helping their students' topic defining. It was necessary to minimize the opinions of the instructors at the beginning of class and minimize the number of team members. And also it provided a lot of opportunities to collaborate with companies in the topic selection process, it will help to develop the students' ability to determine the valuable topic in project.

  • A Situation-problem, one of the problems in school mathematics, plays a role as the starting point of teaming mathematics. It leads to construct knowledge which is a tool for solving the problems. Whether the problem is a situation-problem or not, it depends upon how to use that problem. Since posing situation-problems is accompanied by prior analysis and planning for teaching in the class, it is a difficult task. This paper focuses on the characteristics of situation-problems and on how their characteristics are realized in the process of classroom instruction. For this purpose, it analyzes the context of classroom instruction to which the 'puzzle problem' model suggested by Brousseau is applied. The model is considered as a typical situation-problem, which aims at proportionality and linearity. In addition, this paper suggests various sources of information that are useful in posing the situation-problems related to the ratio concepts.

  • Purpose: This study attempted to describe the essential structure of nursing students' experiences as observers of human body dissection. Methods: The research was undertaken as qualitative research. The data was collected through written sources of 169 students majoring in nursing. The analysis of data was made using the phenomenological analytic method suggested by Colaizzi (1978). Results: In this study, five categories of themes emerged. They were: 'unfamiliar wait','standing at the edge of chaos','growth through reflection', 'be immersed in practice', 'winging to be a nurse'. Conclusion: This study will prove helpful not only in understanding nursing students' observation experiences of human body dissection but also in describing their needs for systematic and emotional support.

  • Many studies on the professional development of science teachers demonstrated that induction teachers' conceptions of teaching science are important factors in developing their professionalism. The present study was conducted to describe in detail the progress of two science induction teachers, June and Mike, towards conceptual change teaching, and to investigate secondary induction science teachers' conceptions of teaching science by analysing their conceptual ecologies. The study was interpretive, using multiple data sources to achieve a triangulation of data. Both June and Mike held strongly positive learning in their views of knowledge and science. Holding positivist views of knowledge and of science is likely to be a major obstacle for anyone coming to understand constructivism and its implications in teaching for conceptual change. This argument resonates in several key ways with the teachers' cases, even though I recognize differences between scenario and teachers, and between teachers themselves.
