몇 가지 식물 추출물의 밀 녹병 방제 특성 (Antifungal activities of Several Plant Extracts against Wheat Leaf Rust)

  • 야외에서 채집한 27종 식물의 메탄올 추출물의 벼 도열병, 벼 잎집무늬마름병, 토마토 잿빛곰팡이병, 토마토 역병, 밀 녹병 및 보리 흰가루병에 대한 방제효과를 실험하였다. 벼 도열병에 대하여는 환삼덩굴, 비비추, 맥문동, 황기 추출물이, 잿빛곰팡이병에 대해서는 닭의장풀 추출물이, 보리 흰가루병에 대하여는 황기 추출물이 그리고 밀 녹병에 대하여는 비비추, 맥문동, 까마중 그리고 황기 추출물이 우수한 방제효과를 보였다. 이들 중 밀 녹병에 대하여 방제효과가 우수한 4종 시료를 선발하여 이들의 방제 특성을 조사하였나. 맥문동과 까마중 추출물은 밀 녹병에 대한 예방효과가 다른 추출물에 비하여 우수하였으며, 치료효과는 황기 추출물은 우수하였으나 까마중 추출물은 다소 미약한 치료활성이 있었다. 식물 추출물의 침투이행성은 엽육이행과 엽간이행으로 실험하였는데, 4종 추출물 모두 엽간이행은 거의 없었으나, 엽육이행은 우수하였다. 식물추출물의 약효지속성은 대부분 좋았으며 특히 비비추와 까마중 추출물은 약제처리 7일 후에도 95% 이상의 방제가를 보였다. 이들 결과를 종합해 보면 4종 식물 추출물 특히 까마중 추출물은 포장에서 밀 녹병에 대하여 우수한 방제효과를 보이리라 생각된다.

송엽 추출물을 이용한 카드뮴 독성의 해독에 관한 연구 (A Study on Antitoxic Effects of Pine Leaf Extracts against Cadmium Toxicity in Rats)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antitoxic effects of Pine Leaf extracts against cadmium toxicity. The experimental rats were divided into 5 groups, such as control group cadmium alone treatment group and simultaneous treatment groups of cadmium and three doses of Pine Leaf extracts. Each group was administered with different dose of Pine Leaf extracts such as 0.5 mg, 2.5 mg, 5.0 mg/kg wet weight in pallets for 12 weeks. Cadmium Chloride($CdCl_2$) was administered by 4 mg/kg body weight. The results were summarized as follows: The simultaneous administration of cadmium and Pine Leaf significantly more decreased cadmium concentration in liver tissues compared to the administration of cadmium only. When blood were measured, no significantly difference in haemoglobin, haematocrit, erythrocyte values compared to the administration of cadmium only, but RBC significantly more increased. The simultaneous administration of cadmium and Pine Leaf more no sigmificantly difference metallothionein concentration in liver than the administration of cadmium only. There were showed the histopathological slight changes in the liver and kidney tissues of rats.

모링가 잎 열수 추출물을 첨가한 설기떡의 항산화, 이화학 및 관능 특성 (Antioxidation, Physicochemical, and Sensory Characteristics of Sulgidduck Fortified with Water Extracts from Moringa oleifera Leaf)

  • The aim of this investigation was to examine the antioxidation, physicochemical, and sensory activity of a Korean steamed-rice cake, Sulgidduk, fortified with water extracts from Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) leaf. M. oleifera leaf extracts were added to rice powder at rations of 0.1%, 1% and 10%. To examine antioxidation properties, the scavenging activities of DPPH radicals, hydroxyl radicals, ABTS+ radicals, and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power were investigated. M. oleifera extracts significantly increased the antioxidation activities of Sulgidduk in a dose dependent manner (p<0.05). Physicochemical characteristics were measured by proximate composition, color, texture profile analysis, and sensory evaluations. As the concentration of M. oleifera leaf extracts increased, L-values and a-values significantly decreased while b-values increased. Texture profile analysis demonstrated that the control groups showed significantly higher values for hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness, and adhesiveness as compared with groups containing M. oleifera leaf extract (p<0.05). In the sensory evaluation, the sample containing 0.1% of M. oleifera leaf extract obtained the best results in overall preference. Taken together, these results suggest that M. oleifera leaf may have the potential to increase the consumer acceptability and the functionality of Sulgidduk.

Changes of Physiological Activity of Mustard Leaf during Its Fermentation Period

  • In vitro cytotoxicity and antioxidative effects of water extracts prepared from Mustard Leaf Kimchi (MLK) during its fermentation period were investigated. The cytotoxicity against HepG2 (human hepatic cancer) by water extracts from the well fermented Mustard Leaf Kimchi was higher than others (fermented for 0 to 6 days at 18$^{\circ}C$), and IC50 of water extracts at the points of 6, 8, 10, and 14days during fermentation were 213.4, 99.2, 99.9, and 109.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/ml, respectively. Antioxidative activity of water extracts from MLK during various fermentation periods was higher than that of blank distilled water. However, the antioxidative activity of well-fermented water extracts of MLK (fermented for 8-14 days) did not show any difference from that of others (fermented for 2-6 days). Thus, water extracts of well-fermented MLK (fermented during 8-14 days) significantly inhibited the growth of cancer cells in vitro, but little antioxidative activity was influenced by the various fermentation periods.

Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, and Antiproliferative Activities of Olive (Olea europaea L.) Leaf Extracts

  • Total phenol, total flavonoid, reducing powder, electron donating activity, ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial and antiproliferative activities of olive leaf extracts were investigated. The contents of total phenol and flavonoid were 257.48 and 92.33 mg in 100 g of olive leaf extract, respectively. The reducing power of the olive leaf extract increased with concentration increasing. Electron donating activity was high in 100 ${\mu}g/mL$ treated olive leaf extract as 95.20%. The ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant capacity of the olive leaf extract was 68.93 mg/g olive leaf extract. The olive leaf extracts showed relatively high antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. All of the cancer cell lines including MKN45, HCT116, NCI-H460, and MCF7 have 70-81% as effective growth inhibition.

헛개나무 잎과 과병추출물의 몇가지 가능성 (Some Functional Properties of Extracts from Leaf and Fruit Stalk of Hovenia dulcis)

  • 헛개나무 추출물을 이용하여 항산화, 아질산염소거 및 알콜분해 효과 등을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 헛개나무 잎과 과병의 용매별 추출수율을 측정한 결과 잎은 물층, 과병에서는 메탄올층에서 각각 높게 나타났으며, 에탄올 추출물을 헥산, 클로로포름, 에틸아세테이트, 부탄올 및 물과 같은 용매를 이용하여 계통분획한 후 추출수율은 잎과 과병 모두 물분획층에서 높게 나타났다. 메탄올 에탄올, 헥산, 클로로포름 및 물 추출물을 이용하여 항산화 효과 및 아질산염소거 효과를 측정한 결과 에탄올 추출물에서 높은 활성을 나타내었으며, 에탄올 추출물을 계통분획하여 항산화 및 아질산염소거 효과를 측정한 결과 에틸아세테이트 분획층에서 활성이 높게 나타났다. 헛개나무의 부위별 알콜분해효과는 잎과 과병에서 높게 나타났고, 잎과 과병의 알콜분해효과는 시간이 경과함에 따라 증가하였다.

자생식물의 메탄올 추출물이 흰줄숲모기 및 바퀴에 대한 기피효과 (Repellent activity of methanol extracts of native plants against Aedes albopictus and Blateria germanica)

  • 민들레(Teraxacum platycerpum leaf), 소나무(Pinus densiflora leaf), 쑥(Artemisia prinseps, leaf), 부추(Allium tuberosum leaf), 결명초(Cassia obtussifolia, whole plant), 고삼(Sophora angestifolia, root), 백부근(Stemonae sessilifolia, root), 인동(Lonicera japonica, stem, leaf, flower) 및 귤(Clivia miniata, left)등 9종의 자생식물(시료11종)의 메탄올 추출물이 흰줄숲모기와 바퀴에 대한 기피효과 실험을 실행하였다. 그결과 흰줄숲모기에 대해서는 소나무잎 민들레잎 부추 잎 및 인동꽃 등의 메탄올 추출물이 기피효과가 우수하였다. 한편 바퀴에 대한 이들의 기피효과에서는 인동잎이 좋았으나 일반적으로 흰줄숲모기에 비해 기피효과가 떨어졌다.

Phytotoxicity and DPPH Radical Scavenging Activity of Barley Seedling Extracts

  • A series of methanol extracts from leaf and root parts in spring- and winter-barley plants were assayed to determine their allelopathy and antioxidant activity. The methanol extracts applied on filter paper in a Petri-dish significantly inhibited root growth of Chinese milkvetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) seedlings. Leaf extracts at 25 and 50 g $L^{-1}$ inhibited root growth of Chinese milkvetch seedlings more than root extracts. No difference in phytotoxic effects of spring- and winter-barley seedlings extracts on root growth of Chinese milkvetch was observed. Methanol extracts dose-dependently increased DPPH free radical scavenging activity in vitro. DPPH free radical scavenging activity was higher in the methanol extracts from winter-barley seedlings than in those from spring-barley seedlings, and from leaf extracts than from root extracts. The antioxidant potential of the individual fraction from the methanol extracts of spring-barley seedlings was in order of n-butanol>ethyl acetate>water>chloroform>n-hexane fraction. By means of HPLC analysis, spring-barley (200.62 mg $100g^{-1}$) had more amount of total phenol acid than winter-barley (114.08 mg $100g^{-1}$). Especially, ferulic acid was detected in spring-barley extract (183.46 mg $100g^{-1}$) as the greatest amount. These results suggest that early seedlings of barley plants had potent allelopathy and antioxidant activity, and their activities were differently exhibited depending on plant parts and growing condition.

들깻잎과 참깻잎 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 대장암세포 증식 억제 활성 비교분석 (Comparison of Antioxidant and Anti-proliferative Activities of Perilla (Perilla frutescens Britton) and Sesame (Seasamum indicum L.) leaf extracts)

  • 들깻잎은 독특한 향미가 있어 다양한 형태로 빈번히 식용되고 있는 반면 참깻잎은 특별한 향미가 없어 그 기호성이 낮아 거의 식용되지 않는 폐자원이다. 들깻잎의 경우 다양한 기능성이 보고된 바 있으나, 참깻잎의 경우에는 통상적으로 식품으로 이용되는 자원이 아니기 때문에 그 기능성에 대한 연구가 전무한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 들깻잎과 참깻잎의 항산화 성분함량 및 활성을 비교하여, 참깻잎의 항산화 및 항암 기능성을 조명해 보고자 하였다. 식물성 식품에 널리 존재하는 대표적인 항산화 성분인 폴리페놀과 플라보노이드의 함량을 들깻잎과 참깻잎 추출물에서 측정한 결과, 참깻잎의 총 폴리페놀 및 총 플라보노이드 함량은 들깻잎의 함량의 약 1.5-1.6배 수준이었으며(p<0.05), 참깻잎의 ABTS radical 및 DPPH radical 소거활성 또한 들깻잎 활성의 약 1.7-2배 수준이었다(p<0.01). 또한 참깻잎은 들깻잎보다 대장암세포의 성장을 억제하는 활성이 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<0.001). 이러한 연구 결과는 향후 참깻잎의 항암성을 포함한 다양한 기능성 및 관련 작용기전을 규명하고, 나아가 참깻잎을 이용한 기능성 식품을 개발하기 위한 기초자료로 이용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 또한 참깻잎의 기호성을 증진시키기 위한 조리과학적 연구 등과 같은 참깻잎의 식품학적 가치를 재조명하는 다양한 연구들이 앞으로 종합적으로 수행된다면, 이제까지 폐자원으로 여겨졌던 참깻잎의 새로운 자원화를 통한 경제적인 효과도 기대할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Synergistic interactions of Aegle marmelos leaf, Emblica officinalis fruit and Ocimum sanctum leaf extracts in the regulation of hyperthyroidism and / or hyperglycaemia

  • The effects of Aegle marmelos (Rutaceae) leaf, Emblica officinalis (Euphorbiaceae) fruit and Ocimum sanctum. (Labiateae) leaf extracts were studied in L-thyroxine (0.5 mg/kg) induced hyperthyroidic mice. Separately combined effects of these three plant extracts and of a commonly used antithyroidic drug, Propyl thiouracil (PTU) were investigated for comparison. Serum concentration of thyroxine $(T_4)$, triiodothyronine $(T_3)$, glucose and the activity of hepatic Glucose 6-Phosphatase (G-6-Pase) were considered as main parameters. Hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT) activities were also studied to reveal the toxic effect of the plant extracts, if any. While exogenous $T_4$ enhanced serum concentration of $T_4$, $T_3$, glucose and the activity of hepatic G-6-Pase, a simultaneous administration of either A. marmelos leaf (1.0 mg/kg), E. officinalis fruit( 30 mg/kg) and O. sanctum leaf (50 mg/kg) extracts, to hyperthyroidic animals decreased all these parameters. However, the effects were more pronounced, as nearly normal thyroid function and serum glucose concentration were exhibited when all three plant extracts were administered together. A decrease in LPO and a concomitant increase in SOD and the CAT activities indicated the safe and antiperoxidative nature of the plant extracts, administered either alone or in combination. Our findings reveal that the three test plant materials exhibit synergistic effects without any hepatotoxicity, suggesting their potential use in the amelioration of hyperthyroidism and/ or hyperglycaemia.
