In this article we consider a supply chain consisting of a risk-sensitive manufacturer and a riskneutral retailer. The manufacturer maximizes her individual expected profit by designing a supply chain coordinating returns contract (SCRC) that consists of (i) a channel coordinating returns policy that maximizes the supply chain joint expected profit, and (ii) a profit sharing arrangement that gives the retailer an expected profit only slightly higher than that in the no returns case so that it is just enough to induce the retailer to accept the SCRC. Thus, the manufacturer captures as high a percentage as possible of the jointly maximum supply chain profit. However, this contract can sometimes lead to the manufacturer's resulting realized profit being lower than that in the no returns case when demand is lower than expected. In this context, even though profit is sufficiently attractive on average, will the risk-sensitive manufacturer ever consider applying a SCRC? Our research raises this question and focuses on designing a SCRC that can significantly increase the probability of the manufacturer's resulting realized profit being at least higher than that in the no returns case.
During preliminary design of a RC building located in a seismic area, having quick but reliable analytical measurement of interstory drifts and storey stiffnesses might be helpful in order to check the fulfillment of damage limit state and stiffness regularity in elevation required by seismic design codes. This paper presents two approximate methods, strongly interrelated each other, and addressed to achieve each of these two purposes for frame buildings. A brief description of some already existing methods addressed to the same aims is included to compare the main differences in terms of general approaches and assumptions. Both new approximate methods are then applied to 9 'ideal' frames and 2 'real' buildings designed according to the Italian seismic code. The results are compared with the 'exact' values obtained by the code-based standard calculation, performed via FEM models, showing a satisfactory range of accuracy. Compared with those by the other methods from literature, they indicate the proposed procedures lead to a better approximation of the objective structural parameters, especially for those buildings designed according to the modern 'capacity design' philosophy.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to explore how advertising for multilevel marketing brands affect the salesperson's activity including customer-salesperson interactivity, work attitude, and perceived and actual performance after the campaign. Research Design, data, and methodology - This study collects experimental data, survey data, and actual sales data and applies statistical analyses such as factor analysis, t-tests, and a structural equation model. Results - The results show that advertising campaign can enhance a salesperson's selling activities and provide wide managerial implications to a multilevel marketing firm by filling the gaps for the field of advertising research. Conclusions - Managerial implications include: i) multilevel marketing firms should consider advertising campaigns as a means of changing customer responses because advertising plays a significant role in increasing familiarity with, and knowledge of, attitudes toward the brand, which also helps salespeople interact with customers; ii) multilevel marketing firms should consider brand advertising as a means to support the sales activities of salespeople including sales effectiveness, work attitudes, and perceived performance, and iii) multilevel marketing firms should consider brand advertising as a means to enhance a salesperson's pride and motivation for selling their brand, which will lead to improved sales performances.
Zoogloea ramigera produces an extracellular polysaccharide called zooglan, which adsorbs heavy metals. In the current study, Zoogloea ramigera was cultured in media containing various carbon sources. When different carbon sources were included in the cultivation medium, there was a change in the composition of zooglan that is mainly composed of glucose, galactose, and pyruvic acid. The various zooglan compositions were analyzed by HPLC, and changes in the heavy metal (lead (II) and cadmium) adsorption characteristics relative to a change in the composition were examined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. A high adsorption capacity was observed at a pH higher than 3.0. The adsorption of metal ions was the highest at $35^{\circ}C$, and a higher adsorption was obtained with a lower flow rate. Changes in the zooglan composition did result in changes in the heavy metal adsorption characteristics. Furthermore, it was also found that the pyruvic acid content was more important than the glucose or galactose content for heavy metal adsorption.
This study is to investigate the present condition of waste disposal establishment and to analysis problems which could be produced at location selection formalities of waste disposal establishment. It proposed building methods of waste disposal establishment to lead spontaneous participation of local resident according to case analysis of waste disposal establishment. There are research results; i) Opposition of inhabitants was the majority of reason at the business abandonment or delay of waste disposal establishment. Therefore agreement formation course with local inhabitants is most important position. ii) Many estimate have been needed for waste disposal establishment, but support estimate of government was 30-50% that is really low compare with other environmental establishment. So that it need to increase of government estimate. iii) Location collection is carried out based on law and final collected location must be executed without delay of relation business as soon as possible. iv) Standard of location collection has to divide into small, middle and large size and to apply with same rule according to divided location. v) It must be change public subscription before and location selection after and maintain continuance of information offer to local inhabitants and offered information. vi) after building of waste disposal establishment for solving distrust of waste disposal establishment. It must be planed and carried on useful support countermeasure to local inhabitants in actuality.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify parental coping strategies in the face of early infant and toddler injury, and to provide basic data for a parental education program and the most desirable directions it should take. Methods: A Q-methodology to analyze the subjectivity of each item was used. Thirty-four Q-statements were derived from a literature review and interviews. Forty-seven parents were classified into a shape of normal distribution using a 9-point scale. Collected data were analyzed by the pc-QUANL program. Results: Five types of parental coping in early infant and toddler injury were identified. Type I was "hospital treatment focused", type II was "Improving the safety of the child's environment", type III was "expression of negative emotion", type IV was "taking the lead in problem solving", and type V was "Interrogating the person in charge of the situation in which the injury occurred". Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that different approaches to educational programs can be used for parents in early childhood injury.
In the United States, forest administration is a constantly changing complex of policies, programs, and management regulations. Forest administration is the product of a brief but tumultuous history during which much of the forests which once covered half the land were coutover for farms, industry, and cities. In the last 15 years, forest administration has been increasingly dominated by concerns for maintaining an ecological balance. Current forest administration is deeply rooted in the American traditions of decentralized federalism and free enterprise, yet combines state socialism and private capitalism. The major elements of U.S. forest administration consist of : 1) programs and policies on taxation, professional education and research, and "cooperative forestry", 2) state controls on forest practices for privately owned lands, and of federal policies and regulations for the management of federal lands. The federal Forest Service has played a lead role in developing and implementing national forest policies and programs. Since the end of World War II, the national forests managed by the Forest Service for multiple use have provided and ever growing fraction of domestic timber needs. In the coming decades, cultural and social trends may force a change in management policy on federal land, reducing the importance of timber harvesting in relation to amenity values.
Purpose: Bedside electrocardiograph (ECG) monitoring is continuously used for assessing patients' cardiac status in intensive care units. However, it has not been explored whether it is used with proper knowledge and nursing practices; if not, its usage will be limited and the risk for compromised patient safety might be significant. This study, therefore, explored knowledge and nursing practices regarding bedside ECG monitoring in nurses working at intensive care units. Methods: Participants in this survey research were a convenience sample of 156 nurses from 25 intensive care units distributed in five hospitals with more than 1,000 beds each in Seoul, South Korea. Results: Participants showed limited and incorrect knowledge and nursing practices. Only 4 (2.6%) participants correctly answered to all electrode placement sites of RA, LA, LL, and V1. Lead II was the most frequently monitored unit regardless of the main purpose of ECG monitoring, and nursing practices to manage noisy signals did not include skin care at the top priorities. Conclusion: Educators and clinicians alike need to make an effort to ensure that a safe level of knowledge and practices for the monitoring is maintained in order to make sure that patient outcomes are not compromised.
This research work has been carried out for finding J-integral in mode II of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminate plates based on the classical bar theory in dynamic conditions with consideration of the effect of inertia forces, eventually to lead to finding the dynamic inter-layer fracture toughness. Dynamic inter-layer fracture toughness was found by a self-made ENF(End Notched Flexure) experimental apparatus using Split Hopkinson's Bar(SHPB), and also observed the variation of the fracture toughness haying different resin contents and fiber arrangements of CFRP specimen([$0_3^{\circ}/90_3^{\circ}/0_6^{\circ}/90_3^{\circ}/0_3^{\circ}$], [$0_{20}^{\circ}$], [$0_5^{\circ}/90_{10}^{\circ}/0_5^{\circ}$]). As an experimental result, in either cases of quasi-static or dynamic load condition, the critical load and the inter-layer fracture toughness increased sharply depending on the increase of resin contents. Therefore, it could, be concluded that the effect by resin contents is the major factor determining the inter-layer fracture toughness in the CFRP laminate plates.
In this paper, the various uncertainties generated in an optical disk drive (ODD) and the robust servo designs considering the uncertainties are studied. First, the brief introduction an ODD and the servo error tolerance of it are discussed. Then, the classifications of uncertainty and the concept of relative stability are introduced. Considering the uncertainty of an ODD, two robust control approaches are applied: (i) mixed sensitivity approach in H$\infty$ control theory for unstructured uncertainty, (ii) QFT for structured uncertainty Finally, the designed controllers are realized by DSP, and these controllers are applied to a commercial DVD-ROM drive. From these experiments, we prove that the designed robust controllers have more good disturbance rejection performance and robustness when it is compared to the conventional lead-lag controller.
