  • The theoretical basis and the main results of a design procedure, which attempts to provide the optimal layout of ordinary reinforcement in prestressed concrete beams, subjected to bending moment and shear force are presented. The difficulties encountered in simulating the actual behaviour of prestressed concrete beam in presence of coupled forces bending moment - shear force are discussed; particular emphasis is put on plastic models and stress fields approaches. A unified model for reinforced and prestressed concrete beams under axial force - bending moment - shear force interaction is provided. This analytical model is validated against both experimental results collected in literature and nonlinear numerical analyses. Finally, for illustrating the applicability of the proposed procedure, an example of design for a full-scale prestressed concrete beam is shown.

  • In this paper, we implement the multimedia dynamic authoring system based on causality model. we define two specifications which support user to specify intuitively and naturally what he/she wants, The temporal specification describes causal-based temporal relationships between presentation objects, and the spatial specification describes relative layout structure among objects on the screen. Using the specifications, the system processes for multimedia documentation are one-dimensional string list, relational trees, such as temporal. spatial, and annotated composition tree generation phases.

  • Quantitative accuracy assessment of a SPOT DEM (Digital Elevation Model) generated by a fully automatic software is performed along the 90km long coast around Donghae city. The theoretical requirement on the layout of the CPS (Global Positioning System) check points is derived: the Nyquist sampling. Since in practice the Nyquist frequency of a terrain is difficult to determine, the relaxed requirements are introduced and 31 check points are collected accordingly. Accuracy of the SPOT DEM is calculated to be 8.9, 11.5 and 12.0m r.m.s. in latitudinal, longitudinal and elevation directions. The bias is distinguishable from zero only for elevation and is 2.2m. The simple comparison with the world's leading commercial softwares reveals the similar accuracy level.

  • In this study, a diamond-based neutron scatter camera (DNSC) was developed for neutron spectroscopy in high flux environments. The DNSC was evaluated experimentally and through simulations. It was simulated using several Monte Carlo codes in a two-array layout. The two-array model included two diamond detectors. The simulation reconstructed the spectra of 252Cf and 239Pu-Be neutron sources with high accuracy (~93%). The two-diamond array system was experimentally evaluated, demonstrating the neutron spectroscopy capabilities of the DNSC. The reconstructed spectrum of the 239Pu-Be source manifested the characteristic peaks of the source. The advantage of a DNSC over a NSC is its ability to define any neutron double-scattering events without the need to absorb incident neutrons in the second detector, and atomic recoil energy information is not needed to determine the incident neutron energy.

  • This paper describes the CIREX(CIRcuit EXtractor), an automated CMOS circuit extraction program which provides SPICE2 input file by computing circuit connectivity and transistor dimensions from the CIF file. The CIREX also computes parasitic capacitance and resistance which makes it a valuable tool for timing analysis and detailed circuit simulation. A lattice model is used to calculate the interconnection resistances and substrate capacitances which can be replaced, as an option, by a node model for the worst case timing analysis of the circuit.

  • A user - oriented computer model to aid designing forest road is developed to release the burden by increasing efficiency of time - consuming and laborious road design works. In this paper, the structures and functions of the model are discussed. The model consists of functional modules : 1)input module to treat survey data and design criteria ; 2)road design module to generate preliminary road layout, horizontal and vertical curvatures and curve widening ; 3)earthwork analysis module to determine the economic mass movement ; 4)report writer module to produce hard copies of engineering drawings for plan views, cross - sections and profiles, earthwork calculation sheets and mass movement diagrams. In addition, the report writer also provides the information on earthwork disturbance along the cut and - fill slopes. The modules are designed to be fully - integrated to enable the users to perform engineering analyses and evaluate design alternatives in a series of road - design procedures.

  • The suspension thyristor valve can generate tremendous vertical acceleration responses in layers and large tension forces in hangers. A shaking table test of a scaled-down model of thyristor valves suspended on a hall building is performed to qualify the risk of vertical uplift of two representative types of valves, the chain valve and the rigid valve. Besides, an analytical model is established to investigate the source of the slackening of hangers. The test results show that the valves frequently experience a large vertical acceleration response. The soft spring joint can significantly reduce acceleration, but is still unable to prevent vertical uplift of the chain valve. The analytical model shows a stiffer roof and inter-story connection both contribute to a higher risk of vertical uplift for a rigid valve. In addition, the planar eccentricity and short hangers, which result in torsional motion of the valve, increase the possibility of vertical uplift for a chain valve. Therefore, spring joints with additional viscous dampers and symmetric layout in each layer are recommended for the rigid and chain valve, respectively, to prevent the uplift of valves.

  • Cell Capacity and cell layout are strongly dependent on the up-link interference caused by out-of-cell mobiles. Accurate prediction of the propagation path loss from out-of-cell mobiles is essential to achieve system designs that minimize the infrastructure required for a given quality of service (QOS). Less accurate predictions can be expected to yield designs requiring the use of a greater number of base stations. In order to quantify the dependence of infrastructure on prediction accuracy, this paper considers the cellular systems, LOS (line of sight) cells along a road or highway.

  • The crosstalk effects that can be observed in the very dee submicron semiconductor chips are due to the coupling capacitances between interconnect lines. The accuracy of the full-chip timing analysis is determined by the accuracy of the estimated propagation delays of cells and interconnects within the chip. This paper presents a CMOS cell driver model and delay calculation algerian capturing the crosstalk effects due to the coupling capacitances. The proposed model and algorithm were implemented in a delay calculation program and used to estimate the propagation delays of the benchmark circuits extracted from a chip layout. We observed that the average discrepancy from HSPICE simulation results is within $1\%$ for the circuits with a victim affected by $0\~10$ aggressors.

  • RCCS is a passive safety-related system that removes the decay heat of VHTR when normal decay heat removal systems are in failure. Understanding thermo-hydraulics of RCCS is important to design a safer VHTR. RCCS consists of 292 cooling panels, which are placed in the reactor cavity. The layout of RCCS gives an idea that, for CFD simulations, cooling panels can be assumed to be one annulus tube. This assumption can reduce significantly the computational time, especially for the unsteady simulation. To simulate RCCS in an axisymmetric manner, three models were suggested and compared. Each model has (1) the same outer radius, (2) the same cross-sectional area (3) the same pressure drop, respectively, as the RCCS cooling panels. The steady-state simulation was conducted with these three models and the DO radiation model. It is found that over 90% of the heat from the outer wall of the reactor pressure vessel is transported to the RCCS by radiative heat transfer. The simulation with the third model, which has the same pressure drop as the design, estimates the closest wall temperature profiles to a thermo-hydraulic code, GAMMA+, result.
