  • Exchange coupling of Co/NiMn bilayers fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering method was studied. We investigated the variation of exchange coupling field (H$\sub$ex/) for different annealing temperature and time. The maximum exchange coupling field was obtained after 13hr annealing at 300 $^{\circ}C$. With respect to deposition sequence, it was demonstrated that NiMn-top bilayers had higher exchange coupling field than NiMn-bottom bilayers. Ta capping layer was shown to be essential in achieving exchange coupling and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) proved that uncapped NiMn/Co bilayers did not have exchange coupling because of oxygen incorporation into film. We also observed the effect of Ta underlayer on exchange coupling. It was found that Ta underlayer had better not be used for attaining higher exchange coupling. XRD analysis showed that Ta underlayer helped bilayers develop texture, but it was not essential to exchange coupling of Co/NiMn bilayers, which is in contrast to NiFe/NiMn system. Furthermore, the NiMn and Co thickness dependence of exchange coupling has been investigated. The exchange coupling strength reached the maximum above 200 ${\AA}$ NiMn thickness and had inversely proportional relation with Co thickness.

  • LSIV (Large Scale Image Velcocimetry) Is one of the image-based velocity measurement techniques. Since it measures surface velocities, it gives simple and inexpensive way to measure velocity, compared to other methods. Because of these advantages, there have been many studies to apply LSIV to the river discharge measurement in the field. Measuring the discharge by using LSIV requires a method which converts a surface velocity to a mean velocity In the present study, experiments and analysis of vortical velocity profile of open-channel flow in various conditions were performed to develop methods which estimate a mean velocity from a surface velocity. The result of this experiment reveals that velocity-dip phenomena occur at free-surface layer in open channel flow and Froude number affects more than bed roughness does. Two methods for estimating the mean velocity were proposed. One is to correct the wake law's profiles by using the difference of surface velocity from the mean velocity, and the other is to use the ratio of mean and surface velocities. The result of applying these methods in an experiment shows that they are quite accurate having an error of approximately $6\%$ only.

  • Since the presence of the chemical impurities and defect at surfaces and interfaces greatly influence the properties of various semiconductor devices, an unambiguous chemical characterization of the metal and semiconductor surfaces become more important in the view of the miniaturization of the devices toward nano scale. Among the various conventional surface characterization tools, Electron-induced Auger Electron Spectroscopy (EAES), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Secondary Electron Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) are being used for the identification of the surface chemical impurities. Recently, a novel surface characterizaion technique, Positron-annihilation induced Auger Electron Spectroscopy (PAES) is introduced to provide a unique method for the analysis of the elemental composition of the top-most atomic layer. In PAES, monoenergetic positron of a few eV are implanted to the surface under study and these positrons become thermalized near the surface. A fraction of the thermalized positron trapped at the surface state annihilate with the neighboring core-level electrons, creating core-hole excitations, which initiate the Auger process with the emission of Auger electrons almost simultaneously with the emission of annihilating gamma-rays. The energy of electrons is generally determined by employing ExB energy selector, which shows a poor resolution of $6{\sim}10eV$. In this paper, time-of-flight system is employed to measure the electrons energy with an enhanced energy resolution. The experimental result is compared with simulation results in the case of both linear (with retarding tube) and reflected TOF systems.

  • Raspberries are a good resource of polyphenols and have a powerful antioxidant activity, but shelf life for raspberries is short which brings a lot of economic losses. In this study, we try to use cool-air ($20{\sim}40^{\circ}C$) or hot-air ($60{\sim}100^{\circ}C$) to produce semi-dried raspberries with extended shelf life, and to determine the best method for improving fruit quality by minimizing nutrient losses during drying processes. The effects of process variables (drying temperature and processing time) on the quality of final dried raspberries were investigated. Response surface methodology was employed to establish statistical models for simulating the drying processes, and the moisture residue content and the loss ratios of total phenolic content (TPC), vitamin C (VC), and ellagic acid (EA) that result from the drying processes of raspberries using either hot or cool-air were predicted. Superimposed contour plots have been successfully used in the determination of the optimum zone within the experimental region. Optimal conditions determined for achieving minimal losses of TPC, VC, and EA, and a final moisture residue of 45% using the hot-air drying process were a drying temperature of $65.75^{\circ}C$ and a processing time of 4.3 hr. While for the cool-air process, the optimal conditions predicted were $21.3^{\circ}C$ and 28.2 hr. Successful application of response surface methodology provided scientific reference for optimal conditions of semi-drying raspberries, minimizing nutrient losses and improving product quality.

  • To develop soybean cake as a functional food material, the anti-oxidative and cytotoxic activities against human colon cancer cells of crude saponins isolated from 70% (v/v) ethanol extracts of cake were investigated. The Diaion HP-20 adsorption method was used for isolation of crude saponins, which were then eluted with 100% ethanol. The non-saponin fraction was removed by elution with $H_2O$ and 20% (v/v) ethanol. The results of thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis confirmed that crude saponins were present in the 100% ethanol extract of soybean cake. The hydrogen-donating properties of saponins were more than 60% at a concentration of $1,000\;{\mu}g/mL$. malondialdehyde(MDA) production was $1,200\;{\mu}mol\;MDA/g$ in mouse liver homogenate treated with crude saponins at the concentration of $1,000\;{\mu}g/mL$. This value was lower than that of the control, which was $3,700\;{\mu}mol\;MDA/g$. Saponins inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Saponins also resulted in a decrease in the proportion of cells in the G1 phase of the cell cycle, whereas the cell proportion in G2/M phase was increased with $1,000\;{\mu}g/mL$ saponins. Thus, we conclude that saponins may induce G2/M cell cycle arrest.

  • A simple and sensitive HPLC-MS method for quantitation of 10${\alpha}$-methoxy-9,10-dihydrolysergol (MDL), the main metabolite of nicergoline, in human plasma was developed and the bioavailability parameters of MDL was assessed in Korean healthy male volunteers. Clomipramine was used as an internal standard. MDL and internal standard in plasma sample were extracted using ethyl acetate. A centrifuged upper layer was then evaporated and reconstituted with mobile phase of 10 mM ammonium acetate-acetonitrile (10 : 90, v/v). The reconstituted samples were injected into a Zorbax SB-C8 column (2.1${\times}$150 mm,5 ${\mu}$m) at a flow-rate of 0.3 ml/min. Using MS with selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode, MDL and clomipramine were detected without severe interference from human plasma matrix. MDL produced a protonated molecular ion ([M+H]$^+$) at m/z 287. Internal standard produced a protonated molecular ion ([M+H]$^+$) at m/z 315. A linear relationship for MDL was found in the range of 2.5${\sim}$100 ng/ml. The lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ) was 2.5 ng/ml with acceptable precision and accuracy. The intra- and inter-day validation for all coefficients of variation (R.S.D.%) were found less than 15%. Main pharmacokinetic parameters of 30 mg of nicergoline were revealed as follows: AUC$_t$ 321.1${\pm}$64.5 ng${\cdot}$hr/ml, C$_{max}$, 51.2${\pm}$25.3 ng/ml, T$_{max}$ 3.6${\pm}$1.5 hr, K$_{el}$ 0.12${\pm}$0.07 hr$^{-1}$ and t$_{1/2}$ 7.6${\pm}$3.4 hr. Inter subject variations and race differences were shown in comparison with the published data in the literature.

  • The free phenolic acid fraction of the chloroform extract from 75% ethanol extract of Rhus verniciflua STOKES (RCF) showed stronger antioxidative activity than BHT, BHA and ${\delta}-tocopherol$ at the same concentration. RCF components were isolated and identified by silica gel column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, mass spectrometer and $^1H-NMR\;and\;^{13}C-NMR$. The antioxidative activity was confirmed by electron donating activity, Rancimat method and thiobarbituric acid test in liposome system. RCF-11 could be further separated into three fractions. The antioxidative active compounds were purified and identified as gallic acid, butin and butein. The RCF-13 was purified and identified as sulfuretin.

  • Impedancemetric $NO_x$ (NO and $NO_2$) gas sensors were designed with a stacked-layer structure and fabricated using $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3$ (x = 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1) as the receptor material and $Li_{1.3}Al_{0.3}Ti_{1.7}(PO_4)_3$ plates as the solid-electrolyte transducer material. The $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3$ layers were prepared with a polymeric precursor method that used ethylene glycol as the solvent, acetyl acetone as the chelating agent, and polyvinylpyrrolidone as the polymer additive. The effects of the Co concentration on the structural, morphological, and $NO_x$ sensing properties of the $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3$ powders were investigated with powder X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and its response to 20~250 ppm of $NO_x$ at $400^{\circ}C$ (for 1 kHz and 0.5 V), respectively. When the as-prepared precursors were calcined at $700^{\circ}C$, only a single phase was detected, which corresponded to a perovskite-type structure. The XRD results showed that as the Co concentration of the $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3$powders increased, the crystal structure was transformed from an orthorhombic phase to a rhombohedral phase. Moreover, the $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3$ powders with $0{\leq}x<0.8$ had a rhombohedral symmetry. The size of the particles in the $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3$powders increased from 0.1 to $0.5{\mu}m$ as the Co concentration increased. The sensing performance of the stack-structured $LaCr_xCo_{1-x}O_3/Li_{1.3}Al_{0.3}Ti_{1.7}(PO_4)_3$ sensors was found to divide the impedance component between the resistance and capacitance. The response of these sensors to NO gas was more sensitive than that to $NO_2$ gas. Compared to other impedancemetric sensors, the $LaCr_{0.8}Co_{0.2}O_3/Li_{1.3}Al_{0.3}Ti_{1.7}(PO_4)_3$ sensor exhibited good reversibility and reliable sensingresponse properties for $NO_x$ gases.

  • The necessity of predicting the spatial information of the site-specific seismic response, which is essential information for the comprehensive earthquake disaster countermeasures, is increasing for the mid-west urban areas where the earthquake-induced damages can be increased due to frequent occurrence of mid-scale earthquake such as 2016 Gyeongju Earthquake and 2017 Pohang Earthquake. Especially, researches on strategic securing of site survey datasets and understanding the site-specific site response characteristics were conducted for Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. In this study, a GIS-based framework for site-specific assessment of site response and induced vulnerable area in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea was proposed. Geo-Data based on GIS platform was constructed for regional estimation of geotechnical characteristics by collecting borehole and land coverage datasets. And the geo-spatial grid information was developed for deriving spatial distribution of geotechnical layer and site response parameters based on the optimization of the geostatistical interpolation method. Accordingly, base information for Improving earthquake preparedness measures was derived as seismic zonation map with administrative sub-units considering the quantitative site effect of Gyeonggi-do.
