Teeth and bones are highly mineralized tissues containing inorganic minerals such as calcium phosphate, and a growing number of evidences show that their mineral content is associated with many diseases. Although the quantification of mineral contents by micro-computed tomography(micro- CT) has been used in diagnosis and evaluation for treating bone diseases, its application for teeth diseases has not been well established. In this study, we attempted to estimate a usefulness of a high-resolution micro-CT in analysis of human teeth. The teeth were scanned by using the Skyscan 1172 micro-CT. In order to measure tooth mineral content, beam hardening effect of the machine was corrected with a radiopaque iodine-containing substance, iodoacetamide. Under the maximum resolution of $6.6{\mu}m$, X-ray densities in teeth and hydroxyapatite standards were obtained with Hounsfield unit (HU), and they were then converted to an absolute mineral concentration by a CT Analyzer software. In enamel layer of cusp area, the mean mineral concentration was about $2.14mg/mm^3$ and there was a constant mineral concentration gradient from the enamel surface to the dentinoenamel junction. In the dentin of middle 1/3 of tooth, the mean mineral concentration was approximately $1.27mg/mm^3$ and there was a constant mineral concentration gradient from the outer of root to the pulp side, ranging from 1.3 to $1.06mg/mm^3$. In decay region of dentin, the mineral content was gradually decreased from the intact inner side to the decayed surface. These results suggest that high-resolution micro-CT can be as a useful tool for non-invasive measurement of mineral concentration in teeth.
The earliest reports of the use of electrical energy to directly stimulate bone healing seem to be in 1853 from England, the techniques involved the introduction of direct current into the non-united fracture site percutaneously via metallic needles, with subsequent healing of the defect. One endpoint of the periodontal therapy is to generate structure lost by periodontal diseases. Several procedural advances may support regeneration of attachment, however, regeneration of alveolar bone does not occur consistently. Therefore, factors which stimulate bone repair are areas for research in periodontal reconstructive therapy. Effects of cytokines or growth factors on bone repair are examples of such areas. Another one is electrical current which occurs in bone naturally, so that such bone may be particularly susceptible to electrical therapy. The purposes of this study were to observe the effects of electrical stimulation on the normal periodontium, to determine whether the electricity is the useful means for periodontal regeneration or not. Forty rats weighted about 100 gram were used and divided into 4 groups, the first group, there was no electrical stimulation with the connection of electrodes only. In the second group, there was stimulated by the 10 mA during 10 minutes per a day, in the third group was stimulated by the 25 mA , and the fourth by the 50 mA. At 3, 5, 10 and 15 days post-appliance , two rats in each group were serially sacrificed. and the maxillae and the mandible processed to paraffin, and the specimens were prepared with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for the light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows : 1. There was the distinct reversal line on the lingual alveolar crest, whereas a little changes in the labial alveolarcrest to the duration and amount of currents. 2. In 50 mA group, the cells were highly concentrated at the apex of anterior teeth, and was observed the necrotic tissue. In posterior root apex, the hypercementosis was appeared, and newly formed cementum layer has been increased continuously with the time. 3. The periodontal ligament fiber and Sharpey's fiber were arranged in order, and the bone trabeculae were increased as the experiment proceeded by, relatively the bone marrows were decreased. 4. In the pulp tissue, the blood vessels were increased with blood congestion in the experimetal specimens remarkably, and the dentinal tubules were obstructed . 5. The osteoblasts in alveolar bone proper had been showed highly activity, and also observed the formation of bone trabeculea. In the conclusion, it was suggested that the electrical stimulation has influence on the periodontium and the pulp tissue. However, there might be the injurious effects.

Canopy structure conductances of a Norway spruce forest in the Solling Hills(Central Germany) and Central Forest Biosphere Reserve(320km to the north-west from Moscow) were derived from LE(latent heat flux) and H(sensible heat flux) fluxes measured(by Eddy correlation technique and energy balance method) and modelled(by one dimensional non-steady-state) SVAT(soil-vegetation-atmosphere-transfer) model(SLODSVAT) using a rearranged Penman-Monteith equation("Big-leaf" approximation) during June 1996. They were compared with canopy stomatal conductances estimated by consecutive intergrating the stomatal conductance of individual needles over the whole canopy("bottom-up" approach) using SLODSVAT model. The result indicate a significant difference between the canopy surface conductances derived from measured and modelled fluxes("top-down" approach) and the stomatal conductances modelled by the SLODSVAT("bottom-up" approach). This difference was influenced by some nonphysiological factors within the forest canopy(e.g. aerodynamic and boundary layer resistances, radiation budget, evapotranspiration from the forest understorey). In general, canopy surface conductances derived from measured and modelled fluxes exceeded canopy stomatal conductance during the whole modelled period, The contribution of the understorey's evapotranspiration to the total forest evapotranspiration was small (up to 5-9% of the total LE flux) and was not depended on total radiation balance of forest canopy. Ignoring contribution of the understorey's evapotranspiration resulted in an overestimation of the canopy surface conductance for a spruce forest up to 2mm/s(about 10-15%).
A three layered neural network model was developed using back propagation algorithm to estimate the UU undrained shear strength of Korean soft soil based on the database of actual undrained shear strengths and piezocone measurements compiled from 8 sites over the Korea. The developed model was validated by comparing model predictions with measured values about new piezocone data, which were not previously employed during development of model. Performance of the neural network model was also compared with conventional empirical methods. It was found that the number of neuron in hidden layer is different for the different combination of transfer functions of neural network models. However, all piezocone neural network models are successful in inferring a complex relationship between piezocone measurements and the undrained shear strength of Korean soft soils, which give relatively high coefficients of determination ranging from 0.69 to 0.72. Since neural network model has been generalized by self-learning from database of piezocone measurements and undrained shear strength over the various sites, the developed neural network models give more precise and generally reliable undrained shear strengths than empirical approaches which still need site specific calibration.

In this paper,we propose applicable methodology using simple scenarios for the architecture and its procedure of sibnalling at the NNI for B-ISDN in Korea.By the recent technologies, the flexible and intergrated networks of the future are designed, and the infrastructure hardware and software of those networks are sdsigned based on the modular concepts. Also the ATM-based B-ISDN must be able to support the broadband transmission function for providing various services with diverse bandwidths such as multimedia serivce and the function for controlling services and bandwidth is necessaty.Currently, the trquirements at the NNI for B-ISDN in korea atr based on the network mode connection type which is connection setup strucuture. They must show the upper/lower layer conformance to have the flexibility in new services and guarantee the interoperability between the network functions. But,network functions and protocol specifications described in this paper are limity to the first stage target system in korea. Therefore,we present the modular architecture which is corresponding to the B-ISUP of HAN/B-ISDN with those characteristics.Currently applicable architecture and procedure for B-ISUP and the functions of expandable modular architecture are also proposed.
GIS has been regarded as one of important tools or methodologies for various geoscience applications. Recently, spatial data integration schemes for site-specific or field-specific thematic mapping are newly developed and utilized. However, these kinds of approaches are somewhat insufficient quantitative assessment of integrated layers towards known targets in-detailed . Moreover, GIS analysis scheme is rarely extended to scientific approaches. In this study, simple approach of Multi-Buffer Zone Analysis , related to GIS analystical aspect, is addressed and an actual application for predicting or favorable mapping of mineral occurrences, one of GIS-based geoscientific approaches, is performed, As for geo-processing in GIS itself, this scheme can be regarded as extension or adaptiation of cell-based buffering or proximity analysis to geoscientific data interpretation. This study is based on rationale that surface geological pattern around primitives such as a point, a line, or a polygon in GIS, representing significant geological features, can be efficiently utilized to delineate complex geological behaviors or events, especially handling multiple dta sets originated from multiple sources such as airborne geophysical/radiometric exploration, field survey, and even a classified image of remote sensing. Conclusively, this methodology associated wit GIS is though to be helpful to analyze the spatial pattern of multiple data, pointing given sources, and is expected to effectively utilize for exploratory analysis of cell-based resultant layer integrated with complex or different data sources.
Mechanical properties and their adhesion behavior with zinc- and brass-plated steel cords of natural rubber/acrylonitrile-butadiene blend compounds were investigated as a function of blend ratio. The Mooney viscosity and stress relaxation time were found to be lowered with increasing NBR content. Tensile modulus generally increased with increasing NBR content. Tensile stress at break stayed constant up to about 40 phr and showed minimum at $50{\sim}60 phr$, and thereafter increased with increasing NBR content. Strain at break decreased linearly below 50 phr, and above the level it showed nearly constant value. Based on the abrupt drops in elastic modulus and tan ${\delta}$ peak, the glass transition temperature of NR and NBR were found to be -55 and $-10^{\circ}C$, respectively. In the case of NR/NBR blend compounds, two distinct transition points were observed and each transition position was not affected by NBR level indicating an incompatible nature of NR/NBR blend system. The pullout force and rubber coverage decreased to the level of about 40% to that of pure m compound, when the 50 phr of NR was replaced by NBR. However, the pure NBR compound showed the comparable adhesion performance with NR(${\sim}90%$). The sulfur concentration was found to become lower with the increased NBR content at the adhesion interface based on the Auger spectrometer results, representing a lack of adhesion layer formation, and this was explained for a possible cause of low adhesion performance with adding NBR.

Because grain boundaries in polycrystalline silicon act as potential barriers and recombination centers for the photo-generated charge carriers, these defects degrade conversion effiency of solar cell. To reduce these effects of grain boundaries, we investigated various influencing factors such as thermal treatment, various grid pattern, selective wet etching for grain boundaries, buried contact metallization along grain boundaries, grid on metallic thin film. Pretreatment above $900^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere, gettering by $POCl_3$ and Al treatment for back surface field contributed to obtain a high quality poly-Si. To prevent carrier losses at the grain boundaries, we carried out surface treatment using Schimmel etchant. This etchant delineated grain boundaries of $10{\mu}m$ depth as well as surface texturing effect. A metal AI diffusion into grain boundaries on rear side reduced back surface recombination effects at grain boundaries. A combination of fine grid with finger spacing of 0.4mm and buried electrode along grain boundaries improved short circuit current density of solar cell. A ultra-thin Chromium layer of 20nm with transmittance of 80% reduced series resistance. This paper focused on the grain boundary effect for terrestrial applications of solar cells with low cost, large area, and high efficiency.
In order to determine the factors related to site quality, 13 areas of Larch growing in the Kwangung and its vicinity forest as sample plots, were examined. Sample plots included various site classes as well as age classes. Three were divided into two groups (major and minor trees). Average height of dominant trees was determined through messurement of 5 to 6 dominant tree in each sample plots. Average height of dominant 30 year-old trees was the basis for site index. A Standard Yield Table for the larch produced in Kwangnung forest was made by various data, which included age class 5, ranging from 10 to 45 years. The relationship of the height of the trees, the site conditions, and ground vegetation are investigated in this paper. The site indexes of 40 forest class age in 28-B and 28-G forest classes of the larch associations for ground vegetation had comparatively rarge differences due to the sampled areas. The relation of the direction of forest communities to the height and the diameter of the tree shwoed that its communiteis of northest and northwest parts appeared higher valueof the height and the diameter. The diameter and the height of trees were closely realted to each other. The samller the occupied area per tree and the smaller the average distance among trees, the more density was increased. The larger the density was the lower height of the trees. In the ground vegetation of the larch communities, there seems to be a definite correlation between the height of trees and the occupied area per tree or the average distance among the trees. The height of trees and site index of two larch communities were as follow: 28-B forest class site index 20.8, height 24.0m, 28-G forest class site index 18.4, height 20.9m. The ground layer was analyzed by the method of Quadrat(20/20sq. cm) with an interval of 1M. It set up 40 Quadrats of the larch communiteis. The community structure of the ground vegetation of two larch was analyzed, and important value was calculated and then evaluated. The ground vegetation under the larch had developed Burmannii Beauv stratal society below the 28-B and 28-G the forest class. Accordingly, the first important value of Burmannii Beauv was found in two ground vegetation below the larch. Therefore, this species could be quantitatively considered as the forest indicator species. Common species of each community appeared 18 species out of 34 species in the ground vegetation under two larch communities. The ground vegetation of the 28-B forest class showed more than that of the 28-G forest class. the similarity of the ground vegetation was measrued by the Frequency Index Community Coefficient. The differences between the associations were lcearly manifested by the ground vegetation tested by Gleason's Frequency Index of Community Coefficient for the analysis of each stratal society of all associations. According to F.I.C.C. the ground vegetation under two larch(28-B and 28-G) forest classes showed higher value. An investigation into the relationship of physical and chemical properties of soil and site was considered the next step to be taken in the study of the larch site classification.

Gangliosides are widely distributed in mammalian cells and play important roles in various functions such as cell differentiation and growth control. In addition, diabetes and obesity cause abnormal development of reproductive processes in a variety of species. However, the mechanisms underlying these effects, and how they are related, are not fully understood. This study examined whether the differential expression of gangliosides is implicated in the abnormal follicular development and uterine architecture of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced and db/db diabetic mice. Based upon the mobility on high-performance thin-layer chromatography, mouse ovary consisted of at least five different ganglioside components, mainly gangliosides GM3, GM1, GD1a and GT1b, and diabetic ovary exhibited a significant reduction in ganglioside expression with apparent changes in the major gangliosides. A prominent immunofluorescence microscopy showed a dramatic loss of ganglioside GD1a expression in the primary, secondary and Graafian follicles of STZ-induced and db/db diabetic mice. A significant decrease in ganglioside GD3 expression was also observed in the ovary of db/db mice. In the uterus of STZ-induced diabetic mice, expression of gangliosides GD1a and GT1b was obviously reduced, but gangliosides GM1, GM2 and GD3 expression was increased. In contrast, the uterus of db/db mice showed a significant increase in gangliosides GM1, GD1a and GD3 expression. Taken together, a complex pattern of ganglioside expression was seen in the ovary and uterus of normoglycemic ICR and $db/^+$ mice, and the correspoding tissues in diabetic mice are characterized by appreciable changes of the major ganglioside expression. These results suggest that alterations in ganglioside expression caused by diabetes mellitus may be implicated in abnormal ovarian development and uterine structure.
