The Contact Resistance and Corrosion Properties of Carburized 316L Stainless Steel (침탄된 316L 스테인리스 강의 접촉저항 및 내식 특성)

  • Stainless steels (AISI 316L) are carburized by Inductively coupled plasma using $CH_4$ and Ar gas. The ${\gamma}_c$ phase(S-phase) is formed on the surface of stainless steel after carburizing process. The XRD peak of carburized samples is shifted to lower diffracting angle due to lattice expansion. Overall, the thickness of ${\gamma}_c$ phase showed a linear dependence with respect to increasing temperature due to the faster rate of diffusion of carbon. However, at temperatures above 500, the thickness data deviated from the linear trend. It is expected that the deviation was caused from atomic diffusion as well as other reactions that occurred at high temperatures. The interfacial contact resistance (ICR) and corrosion resistance are measured in a simulated proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) environment. The ICR value of the carburized samples decreased from 130 $m{\Omega}cm^2$ (AISI 316L) to about 20 $m{\Omega}cm^2$. The sample carburized at 200 showed the best corrosion current density (6 ${\mu}Acm^{-2}$).

Experimental Study on the Flexural Capacity of the U-Flanged Truss Hybrid Beam (U-플랜지 트러스 복합보의 휨 내력에 대한 실험 연구)

  • U-flanged truss beam is composed of u-shaped upper steel flange, lower steel plate of 8mm or more thickness, and connecting lattice bars welded on the upper and lower sides. The hybrid beam with U-flanged steel truss is made in the construction site through pouring the concrete, and designated as U-flanged truss hybrid beam. In this study the structural experiments on the 4 hybrid beams with the proposed basic shapes were performed, and the flexural capacities from the tests were compared with those from the theoretical approach. The failure modes of each specimen were quite similar. The peak load was reached with the ductile behavior after yielding, and the failure occurred through the concrete crushing. The considerable increasement of deformation was observed up to the concrete crushing. The composite action of concrete and steel member was considered to be reliable from the behavior of specimens. The flexural strength of hybrid beam has been evaluated exactly using the calculation method applied in the boubly reinforced concrete beam. The placement of additional rebars in the bottom instead of upper side is proposed for the efficient design of U-flanged truss hybrid beam.

The Study of Effectiveness of 3 Spot DR for the Whole Spine Radiography with Comparison of Phantom Distortions (3 Spot DR를 이용한 척추 전장 촬영 시 모형 왜곡도 비교를 통한 유용성 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to offer more accurate information in whole spine examination of 3 spot DR through the comparative study about image distortion as making the flat phantom and measuring horizontal, vertical ratio and cobb angle of the virtual. We produced $H(40cm){\times}V(116cm){\times}D(2.3cm)$ flat acrylic phantom with lattice type of lead plate. We took projection respectively 3 times, total 9 times in each equipments using manufactured phantom as changing OFD to 6, 12, 18 cm. We measured a horizontal and vertical length of lead lattice and calculated the ratio. As appointing arbitrary points in the phantom and we measured cobb angle. The results of horizontal, vertical ratio measured CR type 0.98~1.01, scan DR type 0.96~0.97 and 3 spot DR 0.99~1.01. Cobb angle measured $52.5{\sim}53.3^{\circ}$, $52.1{\sim}54.3^{\circ}$ and $52.8{\sim}53.2^{\circ}$. Finally we can say that 3 spot DR method is an accurate method without any distortion in whole spine radiography.

Addition effects of nanoscale NiO on microstructure and superconducting properties of MgB2

  • We have investigated the addition effect of NiO magnetic nanoparticles on crystal structure, microstructure as well as superconducting properties of $MgB_2$. NiO-added $MgB_2$ samples were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. The superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) of 37.91 K was obtained for pure $MgB_2$, and $T_c$ was found to decrease systematically on increasing the addition level of NiO. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that no substitution of Ni for Mg in the lattice of $MgB_2$ was occurred. The microstructural analysis shows that the pure $MgB_2$ sample consists of plate shape $MgB_2$ grains, and the grains get refined to smaller size with the addition of NiO nanoparticles. At 5 K, high values of critical current density ($J_c$) were obtained for small amount NiO-added $MgB_2$ samples as compared to pure sample. The enhancement in $J_c$ could be attributed to the refinement of $MgB_2$ grains which leads to high density of grain boundaries in NiO-added $MgB_2$ samples.

A Study on the Characteristic of High Tc Oxide Superconductor, Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O System (Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O계 산화물 고온초전도체의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The formation of high $T_c$ phase is very sluggish and c parameter of unit cell of high $T_c$ phase is about $37{\AA}$. High $T_c$ oxide superconductor with a $T_c$ above 100 K has been successfully prepared by solid state reaction method in BiSrCaCuO system by Pb adding. The microstructure related to the formation of the high $T_c$ phase has been investigated. As compared with YBCO compound, the formation reaction of the high $T_c$ requires long time heat treatment. It is due to the transformation from the low $T_c$ phase to high $T_c$ phase. The sintering just below the melting point of the calcined powder mixture is effective on the formation of the high $T_c$ phase in Pb-added BiSrCaCuO system. The growth of the high $T_c$ superconducting phase has a thin plate shape, which is characterized by the c parameter of $37{\AA}$. The formation of the high $T_c$ phases is delayed by the excessive addition of Pb. The lattice parameter(c) of the unit cell (both the low and high $T_c$ phases) is increased with increase of Pb.

Growth of CdS thin film using hot wall epitaxy method and their photoconductive characteristics (HWE 방법에 의한 CdS 박막의 성장과 광전도 특성)

  • The CdS thin films are grown on quartz plate by hot wall epitaxy. The source and substrate temperature is $590^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ respectively, and thickness of the film is $2.5\;\mu\textrm{m}$. Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction patterns for the CdS thin film, it was found hexagonal structure whose lattice constant a and c were $4.137\;{\AA}$ and $6.713\;{\AA}$, respectively. Hall effect on this sample was measured by the method of van der Pauw and studied on cattirer density and mobility depending on temperature. From hall data, the mobility was likely to be decreased by piezoelectric scattering in the temperature range 30 K to 200 K and by polar optical scattering in the temperature range 200 K to 293 K. In order to explore the applicability as a photoconductive cell we measured the sensitivity ($\gamma$), the ratio of photocurrent to darkcurrent (pc/dc), maximum allowable power dissipation (MAPD), spectral response and response time. The results indicated that for the samples annealed in Cu vapor the photoconductive characteristics are the best. Then we obtained the sensitivity of 0.99, the value of pc/dc of $9.42{\times}10^{6}$, the MAPD of 318 mW, and the rise and decay time of 10 ms and 9 ms, respectively.

Preparation and Properties of the X-ray Storage Phosphors BaFBr1-xIx:Eu2+, Na+ (X-선 저장 BaFBr1-xIx:Eu2+, Na+ 형광체의 제조 및 특성)

  • The forming conditions of X-ray storage phosrhors $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$, $Na^+$ have been investigated, and measured the PSL emission spectra and its intensity, fading characteristics and does dependence of the prepared phosphors. These characteristics were compared with those of commercial image plate (ST-III) obtained from Fuji Photo Film Co. The optimal preparing conditions of $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$, $Na^+$ Phosphor were 0.5 mol% of $EuF_3$, 4.0 mol% of NaF and composition ratio x=0.3, and the sintering temperature were $950^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$ atmosphere. When the composition ratio x was equal to 0, the spectral range of the luminescence of $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$, $Na^+$ phosphor was $365{\sim}420\;nm$, and its maximum luminescence intensity appeared at 390 nm. When composition ratio x was not equal to 0, the wavelength ranges and peak of the spectra were shifted to the longer wavelength with the growth of composition ratio x. A good linearity was shown between the PSL intensity and X-ray irradiation dose. The phosphor sample with x=0.3 exhibited better fading characteristics than that of other $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor samples, and the fading characteristics of the PSL intensity at room temperature were shown poorer with increasing $I^-$ ion concentration. The lattice constant of the phosphor becomes larger with increasing the $I^-$ ion concentration.
