In this study, the lateral loading test was performed to analyze structural performance of multi-span plastic greenhouse through full-scale experiment and numerical analysis. In order to analyze the lateral stiffness and stress, we installed 9 displacement sensors and 19 strain gauge sensors on the specimen, respectively, and load of l mm per minute was applied until the specimen failure. In the comparison between the full-scale experiment and the structural analysis results of a multi-span greenhouse with venlo-type roof according to bracing installation, there was a large difference in the lateral stiffness of the structure. By installing a brace system, the lateral stiffness measured near the side elevation of the specimen increased by up 44%. As the bracing joint used in the field did not secure sufficient rigidity, the external force could not be transmitted to the entire structure properly. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a bracing construction method and design standards in order for a greenhouse to which bracing applied to have sufficient performance.

For the analysis of vertical vibrations of a ship's hull, the Timoshenko beam analogy is accepted up to seven or eight-node modes provided that the system parameters are properly calculated. As to the shear coefficient, it has been a common practice to apply the strain energy method or the projected area method. The theoretical objection to the former is that it ignores lateral contraction due to Poisson's ratio, and the latter is of extreme simplifications. Recently, Cowper's and Stephen's shear coefficient formulas have drawn ship vibration analysts' attentions because these formulas, derivation of which are based on an integrations of the equations of three-dimensional elasticity, take Poisson's ratio into account. Providing computer programs for calculation of the shear coefficient of ship sections modeled as thin-walked multicell sections by each of the forementioned methods, the authors calculated natural vibration characteristics of a bulk carrier and of a container ship by the transfer matrix method using shear coefficients obtained by each of the methods, and discussed the results in comparision. The major conclusions resulted from this investigation are as follows: (1) The shear coefficients taking account of the effects of Poisson's ratio, Cowper's $K_c$ and Stephen's $K_s$, result in higher values of about 10% in maximum as compared with the shear coefficient $K_o$ based on the conventional strain energy methods; (a) $K_c/K_o{\cong}1.05\;and\;K_s/K_o{\cong}1.10$ for ships having single skin side-shell such as a bulk carrier. (b) $K_c/K_o{\cong}1.02\;and\;K_s/K_o{\cong}1.05$ for ships having longitudinally through bulkheads and/or double side-shells in the portion of the cargo hod such as a container carrier. (2) The distributions of the effective shear area along the ship's hull based on each of $K_o,\;K_c\;and\;K_s$ are similar each another except the both end portions. (3) Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the hull based on each of $K_c\;and\;K_s$ are of small differences as compared each other. (4) In cases of using $K_c\;or\;K_s$ in ship vibration analysis, it is also desirable to have the bending rigidity be corrected according to the effective breadth concept. And then, natural frequencies and mode shapes calculated with the bending rigidity corrected in the above and with each of $K_o,\;K_c\;and\;K_s$ result in small differences as compared each another. (5) Referring to those mentioned in the above (3) and (4) and to the full-scale experimental results reported by Asmussen et al.[17], and considering laboursome to prepare the computer input data, the following suggestions can safely be made; (a) Use of $K_o$ in ship vibration analysis is appropriate in practical senses. (b) Use of $K_c$ is appropriate even for detailed vibration analysis of a ship's hull. (6) The effective shear area based on the projected area method is acceptable for the two-node mode.
This study aims at the development of computer Program for the deformation analysis of soft clay layers, and using this computer program, study the constraint effect of deformation- heaving, lateral displacement-of the soft clay layers reinforced with sheet pile at the tip of banking or improvement of soft clay layer up to hard strata, under intact state (natural) and the state of vertical drain respectively. For this study, Biot's consolidation theories and modified Cam-clay theory for constitutive equation for FEMI were selected and coupled governing equation, and christian-Boehmer's technique was applied to solve the coupled relationship. The following results are obtained. 1. Sheet pile or improvement of soft clay layer to the hard strata work well against the settlement of neighboring ground. B. In view of restriction of heaving or lateral displacement, sheet pile is not supposed to be of use. 3. Sheet pile is of effect only when vertical drain is constructed for acceleration of consolidation and load increases gradually. B. The larger the rigidity of improvement of layer to hard strata is, the less settlement occurs.
Cross-beam in the existing temporary bridge system is usually installed to prevent the lateral-torsional buckling of girders and to promote the construction efficiency. However, most of this cross-beams are connected to the girder web by bolts, and therefore, gravitational load resisting capacity of the cross-beams are negligibly small. In recent years, new temporary bridge system, in which the cross-beams and girders are connected to resist the external loads as a unit, was developed. In this paper, we present the experimental and analytical study results pertaining to the structural behavior and load carrying capacity of new temporary bridge system. From the results of study, it was found that the continuous cross-beam increased the flexural rigidity and reduced the maximum flexural stress in the girder. In addition, it was also found that the new temporary bridge system developed is more appropriate for the application in the long-span temporary bridge.
The use of high-strength steels in construction of highrise and mega building structures can bring about many technological advantages from fabrication to erection. However, key design criteria such as local and lateral stability in current steel design specifications were developed based on tests of ordinary steels which have stress-strain characteristics very different from that of high strength steels. A series of tests on 800 MPa tensile strength steel (HSA800) members are summarized in this paper which were conducted to investigate the appropriateness of extrapolating current ordinary-steel based design criteria to high strength steels. 800 MPa I-shape beam specimens designed according to flange local buckling (FLB) criteria of the AISC Specification developed a sufficient strength for elastic design and a marginal rotation capacity for plastic design. It is shown that, without introducing distinct and significant yield plateau to the stress-strain property of high-strength steel, it is inherently difficult to achieve a high rotation capacity even if all the current stability limits are met. 800 MPa I-shape beam specimens with both low and high warping rigidity exhibited sufficient lateral torsional buckling (LTB) strength. HSA800 short-column specimens with various edge restraint exhibited sufficient local buckling strength under uniform compression and generally outperformed ordinary steel specimens. The experimental P-M strength was much higher than the AISC nominal P-M strength. The measured residual stresses indicated that the impact of residual stress on inelastic buckling of high-strength steel is less. Cyclic seismic test results showed that HSA800 members have the potential to be used as non-ductile members or members with limited ductility demand in seismic load resisting systems. Finally, recent applications of 800 MPa high strength steel to highrise and mega building structures in Korea are briefly presented.

This paper dealt with FEM analysis of foundation improved with pack drain. The theory on pack drain was scrutinized and observed values in the field were compared with numerical results. Work site of Kwangyang container pier was selected as a ease study in which measurement of settlement and pore water pressure was accurately carried out. Biot's consolidation equation was selected as governing One, coupled with modified Camclay model as constitutive one. Christian and Boehmer's numerical technique was adopted. Behavior of foundation with pack drain is not simple but very complicated. Discontinuity resulted from rigidity difference between adjacent materials, smear effect and complicated boundary conditions should be considered in the behavior analysis of foundation behavior. The results of numerical analysis were influenced by smear zone. In relevant to this effect, finite element analysis was carried out using the reduced horizontal coefficient of permeability in the smear zone; The numerical results were compared with observed values in surface settlement. including pore water pressure. However only lateral di5plaoement by numerical ana1Ysis was shown since its measurement was not performed in the field. The predication of settlement to be developed later can be effectively employed for the obtimization of construction. The predication of residual settlement using the data measured in the field was made by Hoshino, Asaoka and hyperbolic method. Among them, the hyperbolic method proved best one. Settlements accorded well between numsrical and observed values while pore pressure showed a slight difference. Lateral displacement showed largest values at constant distance from ground surface. The validation of foundation analysis improved with pack drain by computer program employed in this study selecting modified Cam-clay model was satisfactorily secured.

Offshore wind turbines are considered as a fundamental part to develop substantial, alternative energy sources. In this highly flexible structures, monopiles are usually used as support foundations. Since the monopiles are large diameter (3.5 to 7 m) deep foundations, they result in extremely stiff short monopiles where the slenderness (length to diameter) may range between 5 and 10. Consequently, their elastic deformation patterns under lateral loading differ from those of small diameter monopiles usually employed for supporting structures in offshore oil and gas industry. For this reason, design recommendations (API and DNV) are not appropriate for designing foundations for offshore wind turbine structures as they have been established on the basis of full-scale load tests on long, slender and flexible piles. Furthermore, as these facilities are very sensitive to rotations and dynamic changes in the soil-pile system, the accurate prediction of monopile head displacement and rotation constitutes a design criterion of paramount importance. In this paper, the Fourier Series Aided Finite Element Method (FSAFEM) is employed for the determination of static impedance functions of monopiles for OWT subjected to horizontal force and/or to an overturning moment, where a non-homogeneous soil profile has been considered. On the basis of an extensive parametric study, and in order to address the problem of head stiffness of short monopiles, approximate analytical formulae are obtained for lateral stiffness $K_L$, rotational stiffness $K_R$ and cross coupling stiffness $K_{LR}$ for both rough and smooth interfaces. Theses expressions which depend only on the values of the monopile slenderness $L/D_p$ rather than the relative soil/monopile rigidity $E_p/E_s$ usually found in the offshore platforms designing codes (DNV code for example) have been incorporated in the expressions of the OWT natural frequency of four wind farm sites. Excellent agreement has been found between the computed and the measured natural frequencies.
The purpose of this study was to analyze of obstacle gait using spatio-temporal and foot pressure variables in children with autism. Fifteen children with autism and fifteen age-matched controls participated in the study. Spatio-temporal and foot pressure variables was investigated using GAITRite pressure sensor system. Each footprint was divided into 12 equal trapezoids and after that the hindfoot, midfoot and forefoot analysis was developed. Independent t-test was applied to compare the gait variables between the groups. The results showed that the autism group were significantly decreased in velocity, cadence, cycle and swing time compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased in step width and toe out angle compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased at midfoot and forefoot of lateral part of footprint and forefoot of medial part of footprint in the peak time compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased at midfoot and hindfoot in $P^*t$, at midfoot in active area, and at hindfoot in peak pressure compared to the control group. In conclusion, the children with autism showed abnormal obstacle gait characteristics due to muscle hypotonia, muscle rigidity, akinesia, bradykinesia and postural control impairments.

In this paper, the comparisons between field measurments and numerical results ware performed for the settlements, lateral displacement in Jinwol interchange works on the Honam express way whose site was improved by sand drain for the constructions of over bridges, piers and abutments. The computer program was developed by coupling Biot's equation with Sekiguchi's elasto-viscoplastic model under plane strain conditions. Steel pipe piles for piers were replaced into the equivalent steel sheet pile wall. The characteristics of behavior for both the soil foundations and the sheet piles wall were investigated with the variation of axial force on the wall, rigidity of the wall, supported condition of sheet pile into hard strata and the location of anchored point.
Cantilever retaining wall movements generally depend on the intensity and duration of ground motion, the response of the soil underlying the wall, the response of the backfill, the structural rigidity, and soil-structure interaction (SSI). This paper investigates the effect of material properties on seismic response of backfill-cantilever retaining wall-soil/foundation interaction system considering SSI. The material properties varied include the modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, and mass density of the wall material. A series of nonlinear time history analyses with variation of material properties of the cantilever retaining wall are carried out by using the suggested finite element model (FEM). The backfill and foundation soil are modelled as an elastoplastic medium obeying the Drucker-Prager yield criterion, and the backfill-wall interface behavior is taken into consideration by using interface elements between the wall and soil to allow for de-bonding. The viscous boundary model is used in three dimensions to consider radiational effect of the seismic waves through the soil medium. In the seismic analyses, North-South component of the ground motion recorded during August 17, 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake in Yarimca station is used. Dynamic equations of motions are solved by using Newmark's direct step-by-step integration method. The response quantities incorporate the lateral displacements of the wall relative to the moving base and the stresses in the wall in all directions. The results show that while the modulus of elasticity has a considerable effect on seismic behavior of cantilever retaining wall, the Poisson's ratio and mass density of the wall material have negligible effects on seismic response.
