For an electromagnetic suspension (EMS)-type urban Maglev train using U-shaped electromagnets, both the vertical and the lateral air gaps for levitation are maintained only by the electromagnet. The train can run over curved rails without active lateral air gap control because the U-shaped electromagnet simultaneously produces both a levitation force and a guidance force, which is dependent on the levitation force. Owing to the passive control of the lateral air gap, the lateral vibration could exceed the limits of the lateral air gap and acceleration. In this study, dynamic analysis of a Maglev train is carried out, and the effectiveness of a lateral damper for vibration reduction is investigated. To more accurately predict the lateral vibration, a Maglev vehicle multibody model including air-sparing, guideway irregularities, electromagnets, and their controls is developed.

One of the most important missons that are imposed on merchant ship at sea is to accomplish the safe transportation of cargo loaded. Recently, a study on the seakeeping performance has been carried out on the development of evaluation system related to the synthetic safety of a ship at sea. The seakeeping performance is the ship's ability sailing at, and executing its misson against adverse environmental factors successfully and safely. Until now, however, there has not been any method of quantitative evaluation on the dynamic safety of the ship's cargo loaded. In this regards, this paper has introduced the evaluation method of dynamic safety of the ship's cargo. In order to evaluate the dynamic safety of cargo, the vertical and lateral acceleration which causes the collapse, racking and local structure failure of cargo was adopted as the evaluation factors in the ship's motions. The response amplitude of ship's motions in regular waves is manipulated by NSM (New Strip Method) on a given 2,700 TEU full container vessel under the wind forces of 7, 8 and 9 Beaufort scale. Each response of ship's motions induced by NSM was applied to short-crested irregular waves for stochastic process on evaluation factors and then vertical and lateral acceleration of each cargo was compared with significant amplitude of each acceleration. A representative dangerous factor was determined by comparing permissible values of stacking and racking forces occurred typically to the vertical and transverse directions with the container strength required on ISO 1496 at the positions of forecastle, poop and ship's midship respectively. Through the occurrence probability of the determined factor by Rayleigh's probability density function, the dangerousness which limits loads on container's side wall as an evaluation was applied in judging of the danger of the ship's cargo loaded.
One of the important causes of building and infrastructure failure, such as bridges on pile foundations, is the placement of the piles in liquefiable soil that can become unstable under seismic loads. Therefore, the overarching aim of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of a soil-pile system in liquefiable soil using three-dimensional numerical FEM analysis, including soil-pile interaction. Effective parameters on concrete pile response, involving the pile diameter, pile length, soil type, and base acceleration, were considered in the framework of finite element non-linear dynamic analysis. The constitutive model of soil was considered as elasto-plastic kinematic-isotropic hardening. First, the finite element model was verified by comparing the variations on the pile response with the measured data from the centrifuge tests, and there was a strong agreement between the numerical and experimental results. Totally 64 non-linear time-history analyses were conducted, and the responses were investigated in terms of the lateral displacement of the pile, the effect of the base acceleration in the pile behavior, the bending moment distribution in the pile body, and the pore pressure. The numerical analysis results demonstrated that the relationship between the pile lateral displacement and the maximum base acceleration is non-linear. Furthermore, increasing the pile diameter results in an increase in the passive pressure of the soil. Also, piles with small and big diameters are subjected to yielding under bending and shear states, respectively. It is concluded that an effective stress-based ground response analysis should be conducted when there is a liquefaction condition in order to determine the maximum bending moment and shear force generated within the pile.
This paper presents a novel z-axis accelerometer with perfectly aligned vertical combs fabricated using the extended sacrificial bulk micromachining (extended SBM) process. The z-axis accelerometer is fabricated using only one (111) SOI wafer and two photo masks without wafer bonding or CMP processes as used by other research efforts that involve vertical combs. In our process, there is no misalignment in lateral gap between the upper and lower comb electrodes, because all critical dimensions including lateral gaps are defined using only one mask. The fabricated accelerometer has the structure thickness of $30{\mu}m$, the vertical offset of $12{\mu}m$, and lateral gap between electrodes of $4{\mu}m$. Torsional springs and asymmetric proof mass produce a vertical displacement when an external z-axis acceleration is applied, and capacitance change due to the vertical displacement of the comb is detected by charge-to-voltage converter. The signal-to-noise ratio of the modulated and demodulated output signal is 80 dB and 76.5 dB, respectively. The noise equivalent input acceleration resolution of the modulated and demodulated output signal is calculated to be $500{\mu}g$ and $748{\mu}g$. The scale factor and linearity of the accelerometer are measured to be 1.1 mV/g and 1.18% FSO, respectively.
In this work, an independent-load friction wedge model was developed using the ADAMS/View program to predict the performance of a freight vehicle with a bogie employing a 3-piece friction wedge. The friction wedge model can generate friction according to lateral and vertical directions of the bolster. The developed friction wedge model was applied to the ADAMS/Rail vehicle model, and results of the dynamic analysis showed a critical speed of 210km/h. In the linear safety analysis, it was confirmed that the lateral and vertical limit of acceleration of the vehicle were satisfied based on UIC518. In the 300R curve line, the application speed was 70km/h, which was satisfied with the limit acceleration of the car-body and bogie based on UIC518. Also, the developed model satisfied the wheel loading, lateral force and derailment coefficient of "The Regulations on Safety Standards for Railway Vehicles"
Recently, various problems have arisen due to the popularization and aging of urban railway transit, which is the key transportation of large cities. In this study, the vibrational accelerations for the Daegu Metropolitan City Urban Railway(Line 1) were measured and evaluated using the smartphone built-in acceleration sensor and the approved application. For this purpose, the three axes running accelerations were measured according to the domestic standard (KS R 9160), and the acceleration data along the 32 stations (3 directions) were analyzed and compared. In addition, the increasing of acceleration values caused by the change of vibrational environment was monitored along the main stations between the time in 1997 and 2017. It was found that there are considerable increase of lateral and vertical directional accelerations due to the aging of railway facility environment for the last 20 years. The results of this study have valuable means for evaluating the ride quality of urban railway and the vibration influence on surrounding structures.

Through the multibody dynamic simulation, the analysis model of the modalohr freight car of the DMT freight car was developed. By using the developed analysis model, the running dynamic characteristics was inquired through the dynamic analysis about the modalohr freight car. As the running speed and the primary suspension were increased, the lateral and vertical vibration accelerations of the car-body and the bogie were also increased. In case of the lateral vibration acceleration of the car-body, however, review should be considered since it can be influenced by the nonlinear characteristic of the primary suspension. The lateral and vertical vibration of the car-body were generated at the frequency of $2{\sim}3\;Hz$ and $7{\sim}8\;Hz$. And the lateral and vertical vibration of the bogie were generated at the frequency of $25{\sim}35\;Hz$ at the low speed section, $40{\sim}50\;Hz$ at the high speed section.
In this paper, a x/y-axis accelerometer is fabricated, using the SBM process on a <111> SOI wafer. This fabrication method solves the problem of the footing phenomenon in the conventional SOI process for improved manufacturability and performance. The roughened lower parts as well as the loose silicon fragments due to the footing phenomenon are removed by the alkaline lateral etching step of the SBM process. The fabricated accelerometer has a demodulated signal-to-noise ratio of 92 dB, when 40Hz, 5 g input acceleration is applied. The noise equivalent input acceleration resolution and bandwidth are $125.59\;{\mu}g$ and over 100 Hz, respectively. The acceleration random walk is $12.5\;{\mu}g/\sqrt{Hz}$. The output linearity is measured to be 1.2 % FSO(Full Scale Output) at 40 Hz, and the input range is over ${\pm}\;10g$.
Korean High Speed Train (KHST) designed to operate at 350km/h has been tested on high speed line in JungBu site since it was developed in 2002. The dynamic performances of railway vehicle are generally stability, safety and ride comfort. The stability performance of KHST was proved that it is stable at 400Km/h through Roller Rig test. The safety and ride comfort need to be predicted the capability of it at 350km/h by the on-line test because KHST is testing at 300km/h up to now. Therefor, in this paper, the safety and ride comfort at 350km/h are predicted the performance using the acceleration results at 300kw/h and these results show that the KHST's dynamic performances are very good. Also, it illustrate the two cases occurred the abnormal vibration of KHST during some on-line tests. The first case is that the variation of vertical acceleration of wheel is analyzed when an abrasion occur on wheel. The second case is that the lateral acceleration of wheel, bogie and body are analyzed when the KHST is unstable at high speed. The occurrences of these special phenomena were due to the some faults of the suspension and braking systems and the faults were improved. In present, it is testing with safety.
Cantilever sheet pile walls are subjected to surcharge loading located on the backfill soil and at different distances from the top of the wall. The response of cantilever sheet pile walls to surcharge loadings at varying distances under seismic conditions is scarce in literature. In the present study, the influence of uniform surcharge load on cantilever sheet pile wall at varying distances from the top of the wall under seismic conditions are analyzed using finite difference based computer program. The results of the numerical analysis are presented in non-dimensional form like variation of bending moment and horizontal earth pressure along the depth of the sheet pile walls. The numerical analysis has been conducted at different magnitudes of horizontal seismic acceleration coefficient and vertical seismic acceleration coefficients by varying the magnitude and position of uniform surcharge from the top of the wall for different embedded depths and types of soil. The parametric study is conducted with different embedded depth of sheet pile walls, magnitude of surcharge on the top of the wall and at a distance from the top of the wall for different angles of internal friction. It is observed that the maximum bending moment increases and more mobilization of earth pressure takes place with increase in horizontal seismic acceleration coefficients, magnitude of uniform surcharge, embedded depth and decrease in the distance of surcharge from the top of the wall in loose sand.
