  • Reverse Engineering is to find CAD model through measured data of a physical model which is not available in CAD model. The measured data are obtained from measuring with Coordinate Measuring Machine or Laser Scanner. This paper introduces efficient methods of reconstruction through the applicating process of the Reverse Engineering with technical surfaces.

  • The problem of the conflict between eye convergence and accommodation can be induced at Stereoscopic or multi-view 3D display system using binocular disparity. A multi-focus 3D display system was developed, which can solve the problem. LEDs are used instead of galvano scanner and laser to avoid mechanical moving part at the 3D display system.

  • Recently, the high speed rotation and accuracy is needed in the field of electro-optic devices. But it is difficult for ball bearing to satisfy such conditions. So, we have developed the hemispherical type aerodynamic bearing for LSU(Laser Scanning Unit) motor. The hemispherical type aerodynamic bearing is able to support radial and axial load simultaneously. In this research, We have developed mass production method and tested the perromance of aerodynamic bearing in comparision with ball bearing at the speed of 23,000rpm. In the result, we proved that the properties of aerodynamic bearing is better than ball bearing's.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the accuracy of laser-scanned models and 3-dimensional(3D) rendered cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) compared to the gold standard (plaster casts) for linear measurements on dental arches. Materials and Methods: CBCT scans and plaster models from 30 patients were retrieved. Plaster models were scanned by an Emerald laser scanner (Planmeca, Helsinki, Finland). Sixteen different measurements, encompassing the mesiodistal width of teeth and both arches' length and width, were calculated using various landmarks. Linear measurements were made on laser-scanned models using Autodesk Meshmixer software v. 3.0 (Autodesk, Mill Valley, CA, USA), on 3D-rendered CBCT models using OnDemand 3D v. 1.0 (Cybermed, Seoul, Korea) and on plaster casts by a digital caliper. Descriptive statistics, the paired t-test, and intra- and inter-class correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. Results: There were statistically significant differences between some measurements on plaster casts and laser-scanned or 3D-rendered CBCT models (P<0.05). Molar mesiodistal width and mandibular anterior arch width deviated significantly different from the gold standard in both methods. The largest mean differences of laser-scanned and 3D-rendered CBCT models compared to the gold standard were 0.12±0.23 mm and 0.42±0.53 mm, respectively. Most of the mean differences were not clinically significant. The intra- and inter-class correlation results were acceptable for all measurements(>0.830) and between observers(>0.801). Conclusion: The 3D-rendered CBCT images and laser-scanned models were useful and accurate alternatives to conventional plaster models. They could be used for clinical purposes in orthodontics and prostheses.

  • The advent of high-performance terrestrial laser scanners has made it possible to capture dense point-clouds of engineering facilities. 3D shape acquisition from engineering facilities is useful for supporting maintenance and repair tasks. In this paper, we discuss methods to reconstruct box shapes and polygonal prisms from large-scale point-clouds. Since many faces may be partly occluded by other objects in engineering plants, we estimate possible box shapes and polygonal prisms and verify their compatibility with measured point-clouds. We evaluate our method using actual point-clouds of engineering plants.

  • This paper presents a sensor model design based on Monte Carlo Localization method. First, we define the measurement error of each sample using a map matching method by 2-D laser scanners and a pre-constructed grid-map of the environment. Second, samples are assigned probabilities due to matching errors from the gaussian probability density function considered of the sample's convergence. Simulation using real environment data shows good localization results by the designed sensor model.

  • LiDAR systems are usually incorporated a laser scanner and GPS/INS modules with a digital aerial camera. LiDAR point clouds and digital aerial images acquired by the systems provide complementary spatial information on the ground. In addition, some of laser scanners provide intensity, radiometric information on the surface of the earth. Since the intensity is unnecessary of registration and provides the radiometric information at a certain wavelength on the location of LiDAR point, it can be a valuable ancillary information but it does not deliver sufficient radiometric information compared with digital images. This study utilize the LiDAR points as ground control points (GCPs) to adjust exterior orientations(EOs) of the stereo images. It is difficult to find exact point of LiDAR corresponding to conjugate points in stereo images, but this study used intensity of LiDAR as an ancillary data to find the GCPs. The LiDAR points were successfully used to adjust EOs of stereo aerial images, therefore, successfully provided the prerequisite for the precise registration of the two data sets from the LiDAR systems.
