Knowledge of the failure behavior of friction materials considering their intermediate principal stress is related to an understanding of situations where these materials might be used: for example, the stability of deep-seated boreholes and fault slip analysis. This study designed equipment for physically implementing true triaxial compression and used it to assess specimens of plaster, a friction material. The material's mechanical behaviors are discussed based on the results. The applicability of the 3D failure criteria are also reviewed. The tested specimens were molded cuboids of width, length, and height 52, 52, and 104 mm, respectively. A total of 24 true triaxial compression tests were performed under various combinations of 𝜎3 and 𝜎2 conditions. Conventional uniaxial and triaxial compression tests were employed to estimate the mechanical properties of the plaster for use as parameters for 3D failure criteria. Examining the stress-strain relations of the plaster materials showed that a large difference between the intermediate principal stress and the minimum principal stress indicated strong brittle behavior. The mechanical behavior of the plaster used here reflects the change of intermediate principal stress. Nonlinear multiple regression analysis on the test data in the principal space showed that the modified Wiebols-Cook failure criterion and the modified Lade failure criterion were the most suitable 3D failure criteria for the tested plaster.

In line with the modern era in which the safety of underground facilities and the use of underground information are increasingly emphasized, the state is pushing for more precise and accurate underground spatial information to be secured and utilized. Therefore, we need to pay more attention to subsurface geospatial data. In this paper, the goal of this paper is to enable field managers to quickly receive a tiled Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map with minimal information exchange. In addition, a transmission system for the Mobile Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map is established, and a TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)-based spatial information tiling transmission protocol dedicated to the on-site Integrated Underground Geospatial Information Map is developed.
As a new type of healthy public space, greenway users carry out leisure activities, exercise, sightseeing and necessary transportation in greenway. However, at present, there is little research on greenway users' evaluation and perception of greenway, and there is no comprehensive exploration of Greenway environment from a humanistic perspective. Combined with the research and actual situation of the existing representative greenways in Chinese cities, this paper refers to a large number of documents, applies the semantic difference method and multiple regression analysis method, analyzes the current situation of the Dongfengqu greenway, explores the influencing factors and impact evaluation of the greenway environment from the perspective of greenway users' perception, and puts forward suggestions on the optimization of the greenway environment in Zhengzhou from multiple levels. The main conclusion of this paper comes from the data conclusion obtained by semantic difference method, which is feasible in the resident evaluation of greenway use. The feedback results of post use evaluation can provide a reliable reference for the planning and design of similar greenways in the future.

In deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW), the natural barrier must physically support the disposal facility and delay the movement of radionuclides for at least hundreds of thousands of years. To evaluate the long-term geological evolution of the natural barriers, it is essential to analyze the long-term behavior of rock joints, including the frictional healing behavior. This study aimed to experimentally analyze the frictional healing behavior of rock joints under hydro-mechanical (H-M) conditions through the slide-hold-slide (SHS) test. The SHS tests were performed under mechanical and H-M conditions for joint specimens of different roughness. In the H-M conditions, the frictional healing rate tended to increase, which was more evident in the specimens with large roughness. In addition, it was confirmed that the effect of the hydro-mechanical conditions was more significant when the effective normal stress acting on the joint surface was small. These results are expected to be used as fundamental data to understand the frictional healing behavior of rock joints in the natural barriers.

Shear wall is commonly used as a lateral force resisting system of concrete mid-rise and high-rise buildings, but it brings challenges in providing relatively large space throughout the building height. For this reason, the structure system where the upper structure with bearing, non-bearing and/or shear walls that sits on top of a transfer plate system supported by widely spaced columns at the lower stories is preferred in some regions, particularly in low to moderate seismic regions in Asia. A thick reinforced concrete (RC) plate has often been used as a transfer system, along with RC transfer girders; however, the RC plate becomes very thick for tall buildings. Applying the post-tensioning (PT) technique to RC plates can effectively reduce the thickness and reinforcement as an economical design method. Currently, a simplified model is used for numerical modeling of PT transfer plate, which does not consider the interaction of the plate and the upper structure. To observe the actual behavior of PT transfer plate under seismic loads, it is necessary to model whole parts of the structure and tendons to precisely include the interaction and the secondary effect of PT tendons in the results. This research evaluated the seismic behavior of shear wall-type residential buildings with PT transfer plates for the condition that PT tendons are included or excluded in the modeling. Three-dimensional finite element models were developed, which includes prestressing tendon elements, and response spectrum analyses were carried out to evaluate seismic forces. Two buildings with flat-shape and L-shape plans were considered, and design forces of shear walls and transfer columns for a system with and without PT tendons were compared. The results showed that, in some cases, excluding PT tendons from the model leads to an unrealistic estimation of the demands for shear walls sit on transfer plate and transfer columns due to excluding the secondary effect of PT tendons. Based on the results, generally, the secondary effect reduces shear force demand and axial-flexural demands of transfer columns but increases the shear force demand of shear walls. The results of this study suggested that, in addition to the effect of PT on the resistance of transfer plate, it is necessary to include PT tendons in the modeling to consider its effect on force demand.
As the intensity of urban underground space development increases, more and more tunnels are planned and constructed, and sometimes it is inevitable to encounter situations where tunnels have to underpass the river embankments. Most previous studies involved tunnels passing river embankments perpendicularly or with large intersection angle. In this study, a project case where two EPB shield tunnels with 8.82 m diameter run parallelly underneath a river embankment was reported. The parallel length is 380 m and tunnel were mainly buried in the moderate / slightly weathered clastic rock layer. The field monitoring result was presented and discussed. Three-dimensional back-analysis were then carried out to gain a better understanding the interaction mechanisms between shield tunnel and embankment and further to predict the ultimate settlement of embankment due to twin-tunnel excavation. Parametrical studies considering effect of tunnel face pressure, tail grouting pressure and volume loss were also conducted. The measured embankment settlement after the single tunnel excavation was 4.53 mm ~ 7.43 mm. Neither new crack on the pavement or cavity under the roadbed was observed. It is found that the more degree of weathering of the rock around the tunnel, the greater the embankment settlement and wider the settlement trough. Besides, the latter tunnel excavation might cause larger deformation than the former tunnel excavation if the mobilized plastic zone overlapped. With given geometry and stratigraphic condition in this study, the safety or serviceability of the river embankment would hardly be affected since the ultimate settlement of the embankment after the twin-tunnel excavation is within the allowable limit. Reasonable tunnel face pressure and tail grouting pressure can to some extent suppress the settlement of the embankment. The recommended tunnel face pressure and tail grouting pressure are 300 kPa and 550 kPa in this study, respectively. However, the volume loss plays the crucial role in the tunnel-embankment interaction. Controlling and compensating the tunneling induced volume loss is the most effective measure for river embankment protection. Additionally, reinforcing the embankment with cement mixing pile in advance is an alternative option in case the predicted settlement exceeds allowable limit.
The amount of hydrogen adsorbed in arrays of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) was studied as a function of nanotube diameter and distance between the nearest-neighbor nanotubes on square arrangements using a grand canonical Monte Carlo simulation. The influence of the geometry of a triangle array with the same diameters and distances was also studied. Hydrogen-carbon and hydrogen-hydrogen interactions were modeled with Lennard-Jones potentials for short range interactions and electrostatic interactions were added for hydrogen-hydrogen pairs to consider quantum contributions at low temperatures. At 194.5 K, Type I isotherms for large-diameter SWNTs and Type IV isotherms without hysteresis between adsorption and desorption processes for wider tube separations were observed. At 200 bars, the gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity of the SWNTs was reached or exceeded the US Department of Energy (DOE) target, but the volumetric capacity was about 70% of the DOE target. At 77 K, a two-step adsorption was observed, corresponding to a monolayer formation step followed by a condensation step. Hydrogen was adsorbed first to the inner surface of the nanotubes, then to the outer surface, intratubular space and the interstitial channels between the nanotube bundles. The simulation indicated that SWNTs of various diameters and distances in a wide range of configurations exceeded the DOE gravimetric and volumetric targets at under 1 bar.

The issue to be discussed is set as the relationship between urban fragmentation and urban heat phenomena. The fragmentation is recognized as a negative form that commonly occurs in the process of urbanization. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between urbanization entropy and heat phenomenon by looking at the five major cities in Korea. The employed methods are InVEST Urban Cooling Model and MSPA (Morphological Spatial Pattern Analysis) by using the meteological data for the July 2018. The major results are as follows; First, a low rank correlation(rho=-0.3) is found in the relation between entropy and Cooling Capacity Index (CCi). Second, a very high level of rank correlation is observed between entropy and Average Temperature(℃)(rho=0.9). The implications are that 1) a city with a large degree of sprawling development can have a negative effect on urban heat phenomena; 2) the composition of land use including dispersion and concentration in non-urbanized areas, which has the characteristics of open space, can affect the urban thermal environment. Due to the limited number of case studies, it is appropriate to understand that a possibility, not generalization, is observed between entropy and heat phenomena in urbanized areas.

Systematic risk management is necessary in grand scaled urban construction because of the existence of complicated and various risk factors. Problems of obstructions, adjacent structures, safety, environment, traffic and geotechnical properties need to be solved because urban construction is progressed in limited space not as general earthwork. Therefore the establishment of special risk management system is necessary to manage not only geotechnical properties but also social and cultural uncertainties. This research presents the technique analysis by the current state of risk management technique. Risk factors were noticed and the importance of each factor was estimated through survey. The systemically categorized database was established. Risk extraction module, matrix and score module were developed based on the database. Expected construction budget and time distribution can be computed by Monte Carlo analysis of probabilities and influences. Construction budgets and time distributions of before and after response can be compared and analyzed 80 the risks are manageable for entire whole construction time. This system will be the foundation of standardization and integration. Procurement, efficiency improvement, effective time and resource management are available through integrated management technique development and application. Conclusively decrease in cost and time is expected by systemization of project management.

Recently, serious parking problems are occurring due to the difficulty of securing sufficient parking space, and it may lead to other traffic or social problems. In order to solve the parking problem in areas and districts beyond a certain range, a study on-roads and off-street parking lots reflecting regional characteristics is necessary. Therefore, this study establishing a parking demand calculation model for use as a basic study in establishing on-road and off-road characteristics. In order to conduct the study, Dong-fu, Daegu Metropolitan City was divided into dongs, and parking facilities and parking demand were investigated. The survey time was divided into daytime and nighttime on weekdays, and the types of vehicles were divided into three types: passenger car, small trucks and buses, large trucks and buses. As explanatory variables for calculating parking demand, the total floor area of buildings for each of six purposes was used, including detached houses, apartment houses, neighborhood living facilities, cultural and assembly facilities, business facilities, and sales facilities. As a result of the correlation analysis, among the six explanatory variables, the total area of neighborhood living facilities showed a significant correlation with on- and off-street parking demand. A regression analysis model was constructed using the total area of neighborhood living facilities as an explanatory variable, and statistically significant results were obtained.
