  • Transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) are attracting considerable attention as an important component for emerging optoelectronic applications such as liquid crystal displays, touch panels, and solar cells owing to their attractive combination of low resistivity (<$10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$) and high transparency (>80%) in the visible region. The solution-based process has unique properties of an easy fabrication procedure, scalability, and low cost compared to the conventional vacuum-based process and may prove to be a useful process for fabricating TCEs for future optoelectronic applications demanding large scale and flexibility. In this paper, we focus on the introduction of a solution-based process for TCEs. In addition, we consider the powder materials used to fabricate solution-based TCEs and strategies to improve their transparent conducting properties.

  • The effect of solution agitation on the copper electroless deposition process of ULSI (ultra large scale integration) interconnections was investigated by using physical, electrochemical and electrical techniques. It was found that proper solution agitation was effective to obtain superconformal copper configuration within the trenches of $130{\sim}80nm$ width. The transition of open potential during electroless deposition process showed that solution agitation induced compact structure of copper deposits by suppressing mass transfer of cuprous ions toward substrate. Also, the specific resistivity of copper layers was lowered by increasing agitation speed, which made the deposited copper particles smaller. Considering both copper deposit configuration and electric property, around 500 rpm of solution agitation was the most suitable for the homogeneous electroless copper filling within the ultra-fine patterns.

  • The advanced driver assistant system (ADAS) requires the collection of a large amount of information including road conditions, environment, vehicle status, condition of the driver, and other useful data. In this regard, large-scale sensor networks can be an appropriate solution since they have been designed for this purpose. Recent advances in sensor network technology have enabled the management and monitoring of large-scale tasks such as the monitoring of road surface temperature on a highway. In this paper, we consider the estimation and fusion problems of the large-scale sensor networks used in the ADAS. Hierarchical fusion architecture is proposed for an arbitrary topology of the large-scale sensor network. A robust cluster estimator is proposed to achieve robustness of the network against outliers or failure of sensors. Lastly, a robust hierarchical data fusion scheme is proposed for the communication channel between the clusters and fusion center, considering the non-Gaussian channel noise, which is typical in communication systems.

  • In this study the investigation of large deflections subject in compliant mechanisms is presented using homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The main purpose is to propose a convenient method of solution for the large deflection problem in compliant mechanisms in order to overcome the difficulty and complexity of conventional methods, as well as for the purpose of mathematical modeling and optimization. For simplicity, a cantilever beam of linear elastic material under horizontal, vertical and bending moment end point load is considered. The results show that the applied method is very accurate and capable for cantilever beams and can be used for a large category of practical problems for the aim of optimization. Also the consequence of effective parameters on the large deflection is analyzed and presented.

  • Protection of solar cell surface is important to prevent from dust, pollen, sand, etc. Therefore, development of large area antifouling film is urgent for high performance of solar cells. The surface of silica spheres was modified to fabricate large area antifouling film. The surface of monodisperse silica spheres has been modified with 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate (TMSPM) to fabricate large area photonic crystal. Although the surface modification of silica spheres with TMSPM has been failed for the base catalyst, the second trial using acid catalyst showed the following results. The FTIR absorption peak at $1721cm^{-1}$ representing C=O stretching vibration indicates that the TMSPM was attached on the surface of silica spheres. The methanol solution comprised of the surface modified silica spheres (average diameter of 380 nm) and a photoinitiator was poured in the patterned silicon wafer with the dimension of 10 cm x 10 cm and irradiated UV-light during the self-assembly process. The result showed large area crack and defect free nanostructures.

  • The formation behavior of a passive state film on the surface of STS304 in electrolytic solution was analyzed to determine its metallic ion composition. The properties of passive state films vary depending on the Fe and Cr ions in the electrolytic solution. It was observed that the passive state film surface became flat and glossy as the concentration of Fe and Cr ions in the electrolytic solution increased. The corrosion resistance property of the passive state film was proportional to the amount of Fe and Cr in the electrolytic solution. An initial passive state film with high Fe concentration was formed on the surface of STS304 during early electrolytic polishing. Osmotic pressure of Fe ions occurs between the passive state film and electrolytic solution due to the Fe ion concentration gradient. The Fe in the passive state film is dissolved into the electrolyte, and Cr fills up the Fe ion vacancies. As a result, a good corrosion-resistant floating film was formed. The more Fe ions in the electrolytic solution, the faster the film is formed, and as a result, a flat passive state film containing a large amount of Cr can be formed.

  • The paper presents a numerical solution to the problem of a hot rigid indenter sliding over a thermoelastic Winkler foundation with a thermal contact resistance at constant speed. It is shown analytically that no steady-state solution can exist for sufficiently high temperature or sufficiently small normal load or speed, regardless of the thermal contact resistance. However the steady state solution may exist in the same situation if the thermal contact resistance is considered. This means that the effect of the large values of temperature difference and small value of force or velocity which occur at no steady state can be lessened due to the thermal contact resistance. When there is no steady state, the predicted transient behavior involves regions of transient stationary contact interspersed with regions of separation regardless of the thermal contact resistance. Initially, the system typically exhibits a small number of relatively large contact and separation regions, but after the initial transient, the trailing edge of the contact area is only established and the leading edge loses contact, reducing the total extent of contact considerably. As time progresses, larger and larger numbers of small contact areas are established, unlit eventually the accuracy of the algorithm is limited by the discretization used.

  • This paper proposes an improved tabu search method for subset selection in multiple linear regression models. Variable selection is a vital combinatorial optimization problem in multivariate statistics. The selection of the optimal subset of variables is necessary in order to reliably construct a multiple linear regression model. Its applications widely range from machine learning, timeseries prediction, and multi-class classification to noise detection. Since this problem has NP-complete nature, it becomes more difficult to find the optimal solution as the number of variables increases. Two typical metaheuristic methods have been developed to tackle the problem: the tabu search algorithm and hybrid genetic and simulated annealing algorithm. However, these two methods have shortcomings. The tabu search method requires a large amount of computing time, and the hybrid algorithm produces a less accurate solution. To overcome the shortcomings of these methods, we propose an improved tabu search algorithm to reduce moves of the neighborhood and to adopt an effective move search strategy. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, comparative studies are performed on small literature data sets and on large simulation data sets. Computational results show that the proposed method outperforms two metaheuristic methods in terms of the computing time and solution quality.
