Acoustic emission(AE) is low-energy seismic event associated with a sudden inelastic deformation such as the sudden movement of existing fractures, the generation of new fractures or the propagation of fractures. These events rapidly increase before major failure and happen within a given rock volume and radiate detectable seismic waves. Rock slopes are usually large in scale and there are many discontinuities in rock mass. AE waves are strongly attenuated when they propagate through joints. Thus we should resolve the attenuation problem to monitor large volume. In this study, we developed waveguide which is composed of two different materials, cement mortar and stainless steel rod. And several laboratory tests on developed waveguide are performed to obtain generalized AE parameters to predict the failure stage in rock slope. Comparing field data with experimental data in laboratory tests, failure stage of rock slope can be evaluated. To verify and optimize the developed monitoring method, we are now carrying out the field application at a rock slope.

So far the Limit Equilibrium Method has been widely used by way of 2-D slope stability analysis for the evaluation of land slides and slope failures. However recently the evaluation of 3-D slope stability analysis has been comparatively possible owing to the developments of obtaining the terrain data and geological data and of 3-D slope stability analysis softwares. In Japan the evaluation of the 3-D slope stability analysis has been necessary for the stability analysis of the tunnel mouth. In this study we inspected the economic effects introducing the 3-D slope stability analysis for larger scale landslides and slope failures. In case of 3-D slope stability analysis of landslides we acquired the results that we reduce the cost of the countermeasure work of pile work by 40% comparing the 2-D slope stability analysis. Moreover in case of the stability analysis of slope failures we figured out the results that we reduce the cost of the countermeasure work of anchor works by 20%. Furthermore we proved that 3-D slope stability analysis is effective for the stability analysis of tunnel mouths around the sides of landslides and large scale embankment which we could have not evaluated by conventional 2-D section stability analysis.

This study is an experimental research for the dispersion behavior and impact characteristics of debris flow according to change of slope. Large scale experimental setup for the debris flow was established to simulate the artificial rainfall and control the ground slope. Parameters such as materials of debris flow, slope, and length of slope were used for the experiments. After the experiments, it was found that the speed of ground material components was increased about 28~47%. It was found that speed can be increased by increasing the particle size. Furthermore, maximum/final loads for ground material components were increased 89% for the coarse aggregate and 68% for the fine aggregate comparing with sand.

The bench of cut-slope is necessary to stabilizing. But it is possible to be a weak zone in slope. When a small scale failure is occurred in a bench, it influence a large scale failure of slope. So when it is found out any unstable factor, weathering of rock, a direction of joint in a bench, if the bench is reinforced suitably, the holly failure is prevented in cut-slope

Purpose : This study was conducted among 195 adults in their 20s. To analyze the impact of the slope types of the scapulae on the plantar surface of the foot, the average pressure (AP), the maximum pressure (MP), the average of local distribution values, and the average movement of the center of pressure (COP) of the different slope types of the scapulae were compared. Method : The anterior-posterior slopes of the scapulae were measured by comparing the slopes of the left and right sides of the scapulae based on the differences in the height and the slope of the coracoid process and the angulus inferior scapulae. Those whose left side of the scapulae had an anterior slope were categorized as type 1, and those whose right side of the scapulae had an anterior slope, as type 2. The average plantar pressure, the center of plantar pressure, the maximum plantar pressure, and local distribution values were analyzed using a plantar pressure analyzer of the FSA. Result : In terms of the AP of the left and right feet, there was no statistically significant difference both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet. The comparison results of the MP and the average of local distribution values of the two slope types of the scapulae showed that there was no statistically significant difference on the X-axis both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet, but that there was a large statistically significant difference on the Y-axis both in types 1 and 2. That is, the MP of the right foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of the right anterior slope type, and the MP of the left foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of right anterior slope type. Conclusion : This study can be used as fundamental data to predict differences in the location and size of the COP and changes in plantar pressure distribution depending on the slope types of the scapulae, and control the distribution for therapeutic purposes.
Slope disaster is one of the repeated occurring geological disasters in rainy season resulting in about 23 human losses in Korea every year. The slope disaster, however, mainly depends on the spatial and climate properties. such as geology, geomorphology, and heavy rainfall, and, hence, the prediction or hazard analysis of the slope disaster is a difficult task. Therefore, GIS and various statistical methods are implemented for slope disaster analysis. In particular, GIS technique is widely used for the analysis because it effectively handles large amount of spatial data. The GIS technique. however, only considers the statistics between slope disaster occurrence and related factors, not the mechanism. Accordingly. an infinite slope model that mechanically considers the balance of forces applied to the slope is suggested here with GIS for slope disaster analysis. According to the research results, the infinite slope model has a possibility that can be utilized for landslide prediction and hazard evaluation since 87.5% of landslide occurrence areas have been predicted by this technique.

Forest fire is expanded to large-scale forest fire based on topographic characteristics, particularly slope. This report addresses the currently available methods of calculation slope angle from a digital elevation model and develops a new method that circumvents a number of the shortcomings associated with other algorithms. The results of the comparison of five different slope angle calculation algorithms show that maximum uphill slope angle calculation is the proper method for the purpose of predicting forest fire hazard.

In case of the national roads which is opened in the past, there are carried out the expansion and improvement for enlargement of the traffic demand by industrial development and safety road operation to narrow of road width and serious change of the road alignment with effect of topography and graphical features of a mountain. A protection method using vegetation in the cut-slope has been constructed for harmony of ambient environment after cutting the slope recently. But it requires a study because the surface lose and the failure have been occurred in the large cut-slope which is covered by vegetation. In this study it was presented a countermeasure and examined a stability of contained uncertainty in the cut-slope according to the failure example of the cut-slope which is covered by vegetation. The additional research will be necessary against the development of the investigation technique which executes the stability investigation of the cut-slope which is covered by vegetation.
Earthquake motion is one of the most significant influence factors on the slope stability. In this paper, an effective stress analysis with the elasto-plastic model was carried out to investigate the behavior of the slope stability subjected to the successive two strong earthquake motions, fore and main shock. The major influence of fore shock to the slope stability was considered as the existence of the residual excess pore water pressure. The paper presents the influence of the existence of the fore shock to slope stability using the numerical analyses. In conclusion, the excess pore pressure by the fore shock was not dissipated during the 7hrs of consolidation. By this residual excess pore water pressure, the factor of safety at the sliding face showed the minimum values, and the deformations of slope was large when compared with the case that considered the main shock only. Furthermore, the minimum of the factor of safety came out after the end of the earthquake motion.

The pattern of domestic slope construction has been steadily changed from the simpled and small-scale to the large-scale and complicated one, frequently near the existing structures, as the density of population and the traffic increases. In some cases, the slopes become steeper and larger due to the road improvement and construction. For the rock slope, the existence of discontinuity cannot be disregarded and acts as an important factor on the slope stability. Most of the existing methods for stabilizing the slope were focused on reducing the slope angle. Under the specific geographic condition, it is necessary to concentrate more efforts on the research and development of supporting system for the slope stability. As a supporting system, it is often very advantageous to use the FRP pipe grouting method that is similar to the existing soil nailing method or the rock bolting method but uses the high strength FRP pipe as a principal reinforcement in place of steel bar. Through the FRP pipe, the grout material can be injected into the rock mass to improve its shear strength to the required value. .In this study, the characteristics of FRP are investigated by the laboratory tests and the field tests. And, the practical aspects of FRP method are reviewed and analyzed.
