  • The static test was performed to verify the effect of the joint in the UHPC bridge deck slab and the minimum lap-spliced length was presented. A total of six test members was fabricated to estimate the static behavior of the steam curing UHPC bridge deck slab joint by the four points bending test method. The lap-spliced joint type was expected to be not only simple but also efficient in UHPC structure because of the high bond stress of UHPC. Test results show that the decrease of maximum flexural strength was about 30% and the minimum lap-spliced length which behaved similar to the continued reinforcement in strength and ductility was 150 mm.

  • This paper focuses on a development of strut-and-tie model (STM) to predict the capacity of an improved longitudinal joint for decked bulb-tee bridge systems. Nine reinforced concrete beam/slab specimens anchored by spliced headed bars with different details were tested. Test results were evaluated and compared with an anticipation of the validated STM. The proposed STM provides a lower bound of the ultimate capacity of the joint zone. It shows that the lap length of headed bars has a significant effect on structural behaviors of the improved joint. To develop a full strength joint, the range of the lap length can be determined by the strength and compatibility requirement. Design recommendations to spliced headed bars, concrete strength, as well as lacer bars in the joint zone are proposed for developing a full strength joint.

  • This research reviewed the joint and duration characteristics depending on the surface treatment condition and lap spliced length in the PET film jointing method using the high hardness liquid material. As a result, the corona discharge treatment was improved to the contact angle, joint tensile strength, and joint peel resistance compared to non-treatment. Particularly, a surface treatment E (Corona discharge + Primer + PU bond + Polyester fabric) turned out to the best, and especially when the lap spliced length is longer than 15mm, stable joint performance was secured under the long term deterioration treatment of 16 weeks. Thus, the joint is considered to be applicable as the water-proof material.

  • In this study, new moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column joint is proposed for moderate seismic regions. It has the connection reinforcing bars, penetrated the joint and lap-spliced with the bottom bars of precast U-beam. To evaluate the performance for noncontact lapped splice, analytical works were conducted. Major variables for FEM analysis are the length of lap, the diameter of connection reinforcing bars, and the distance between lapped bars. The results of this study show thar the these variables has much influence on strength and deformation of lapped joint.

  • Lap splice in plastic hinge region is inevitable because of due to constructional joint between footing and column. R/C Circular columns with lap-splice in plastic hinge region are widely used in Korean highway bridges. In addition, these columns which constructed before the seismic design code have a number of structural deficiencies. It is, however, believed that there are not many experimental research works for nonlinear behavior of these columns subjected to earthquake motions. The object of this research is to evaluate the seismic performance of existing circular reinforced concrete bridge piers by the Quasi-static test. Existing reinforced concrete bridge piers were moderate seismically designed in accordance with the conventional provisions of Korea Highway Design Specification. This study has been performed to verify the effect of lap spliced longitudinal steel, confinement steel type and confinement steel ratio far the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete bridge piers. Quasi-static test has been done to investigate the physical seismic performance of RC bridge piers, such as displacement ductility, energy absorption, strength degradation etc.

  • The analytical model was constituted to evaluate the flexural strength of UHPFRC(ultra high performance fiber reinforced concrete) member. The analytical approach was attemped to study the effect of the joint and the result compared with the experimental study to verify the analytical model. The calculated value tends to underestimate about 23%~25% in comparison with the experimental result of the jointed test member because the bond stress between precast UHPFRC and cast-in-place UHPFRC surface is not considered in the analytical model. But in the case of the continuous test member, the analytical model provides reasonable results for the flexural strength of UHPFRC member.

  • In the connection of green frame, the bottom rebar of the precast concrete beam needs joint or anchorage to ensure structural integrity. However, given the characteristics of composite precast concrete joint, enough length over which rebar can be anchored or lap-spliced is not secured. In addition, due to issues with constructability, cost or quality, it is difficult to apply welding or mechanical connection techniques. Therefore, this study analyze the requirement for a bolt-type rebar coupler as a solution for the coupling issue between the lower rebars of green frame beam. The requirement for bolt-type rebar coupler proposed herein will provide basic data for development studies of the rebar coupler.

  • In precast deck system, structural performance and serviceability are mostly determined by the connection methods between the precast decks. This study proposes precast deck system with asymmetric ribbed connection details using High Strength Fiber Reinforced Concrete(HSFRC) with filler. To verify the proposed method, the flexural performance experiment was carried out with variation of joint cross section type and splice rebar details. From the test results, regardless of joint details, spliced tensile rebars of specimens were deformed to yielding strain level. Also, all types of specimens resulted in sufficient flexural performance. These test results show that the minimum lap splice length specified in current Korea Highway Bridge Design Code is conservative for precast deck joint using HSFRC. Therefore, splice details can be simplified and joint width can be reduced by using HSFRC with filler between the precast decks, and the proposed precast deck systems can be applied to the connection part of precast decks effectively.
